Orange County, CA based Lennexe Produc-tions in afiliation with Boutique 68 Marketing travelled to Scottsdale to shoot a video commercial for Out West Stallion Station and Matt Mills Reining Horses this past spring. “The horses and the location were magnii cent,” said Eric Hensman, owner of Lennexe Produc tions. “I’ve never shot reining horses before and I was amazed at their talent and grace.” Hensman went on to say that he made his editing job more dificult by getting too much good footage. The two day shoot included ranch scenery, the rehab facility, mare care clinic, Equine Resort and even a bonire at the end of the day with ranch staff, clients and friends.

“The yearling illies were my favorite to shoot,” said Carter Smith-Ellingson of Boutique 68 Marketing who was there to oversee the process. “They were like a pack of Divas show-ing off for the cameras. All of them were born for the spotlight.” Lennexe uses state of the art HD Cannon cameras and even composed original music for the video. They pride themselves in offering top of the line video production and are dedicated to helping the client convey the correct mes-sage. Lennexe with ofices in Orange County, Las Vegas and now in Oahu is big enough to handle large jobs but small enough to still care about every detail. The video short will be unveiled at the 2010 NRHA Derby at the Matt Mills/Out West stalls. There will also be a teaser posted to YouTube, and the Out West Stallion Station website. Lennexe created a modiied version for Matt Mills Reining Horses that will also be posted to the web.

is your horse plaqued by painful ulcers?

How can I tell if my horse has Ulcers:You can have your vet perform an endoscopy but in most cases scoping is not a good diagnostic test for two reasons. Sometimes ulcers are further down the GI tract than the stomach so they are not seen by the scope. Also, endoscopy is very expensive. Several outward symptoms to watch for include: Sensitivity when tightening the cinch or girth Cribbing or biting at sides Decreased performance Weight Loss Diarrhea Chronic sore back Aggressive behavior Intermittent colic

What causes Ulcers: Poor Feed Program Strenuous Training Travel Changes in growing foals – As many as 50% of foals are estimated to have gastric ulcers. The stomach lining is always changing which creates a very fragile environment susceptible to ulceration.

Ulcers are the single-most preventable, perfor-mance inhibiting disease that horses are forced to deal with today. Any kind of stress can lead a horse to develop ulcers. Research has shown that up to 90% of our performance/show horses are affected by ulcers and the performance robbing side effects that accom-pany them. Many of the so-called “training” issues that are seen in our horses today are merely side effects of undiagnosed and untreated gastro-intestinal ulcers. A horse with absolutely no gastrointestinal ulcer-ation can develop ulcers within 3 days when subjected to the stress of showing and performance, especially when they are also being treated with Non-Steroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDS) to prevent musculo-skeletal pains and inflammation. Ulcers can be present even without any outward signs and trying to prevent ulcers is very important. For horses that are in strenu ous situations such has travel and competition, an omeprazole paste is a terrific way to neutralize acid in the stomach and intestines. Its alkaline properties act as an antacid and anti- diarrheal. These treat ment pastes on the market will also help with other issues associ- ated with ulcers like upset stomach and acid indigestion. Once treated ulcers must be prevented in order to avoid frequent re-occurrence. The first step in prevention is a change in diet. Horses whose diet lacks enough long stem fiber (hay) usually have ulcers. Many horses that are being fed diets too high in carbohydrates and not enough fibrous feed throughout the day are very susceptible to ulcers. Grains containing carbohydrates and sugar cause high levels of acid production during digestion promoting ulcer (cont. on following page)

It has healing properties to reduce inflammation, as well as soothe and heal the ulcerated digestive track naturally. Excel™ lessens the discomforts of digestive issues and ulcers by coating the lining of the digestive tract and reduces pain and inflammation of ulcers and colitis. This supplement is effective for ulcers, colitis, diarrhea and other types of digestive discomfort. Unlike most other daily preventative ulcer supplements, Excel™ may be used long term without the possible build up of toxic levels of minerals.

formation. It is very important for the horse to be able to graze throughout the day rather than only eating two times per day. Having a low quality hay or pasture grass avail-able at all times to prevent periods of fasting, which does not allow acid to build up. Feeding rice bran or alfalfa pellets instead of grain and then supplementing with a comprehensive vitamin and mineral supplement can also help your horse reach optimized health. The biggest key in addition to proper nutrition is a good preventative supplement such as DePaolo Equine’s Excel™.

Every equestrian has come across a horse with unsolved problems. Often it has nothing to do with a horse’s quality, pedigree or talent. Issues keep appearing that seemingly have no solution, and no amount of blood testing, bute, feed changes or layoffs seem to ix the problem. It’s a very frustrating situation. Well-respected equine veterinarian, Dr. Mark DePaolo of Wilsonville, Oregon, has found at least one answer.

“A majority of my practice consists of Chiropractic and Acupuncture treatments,” Dr. DePaolo says. “There are horses that seem unable to hold an adjustment. Like many veterinarians I have used blood testing as an important source of diagnostic information. It’s a good resource for acute problems, crisis situations and liver or kidney issues, but it does not address long term recurring problems. I decided to try hair analysis. It’s frequently used with humans, but rarely with horses. What I discovered changed the way I work with and treat horses.”

A majority of today’s equine problems are nutritionally related. Allergies, Cushings, Equine Polysaccharide Storage Myopathy (EPSM), chronic body soreness, mystery lameness and a myriad of other conditions often involve mineral and/or electrolyte deiciencies and heavy metal toxicities. Blood testing would indicate that the horse was normal while Horse Hair Analysis would show serious imbalances.

“So many of the horses I test this way, at least 8 out of 10, come back with some sort of irregularity,” says Dr. DePaolo. “The test allows us to understand the full range of a horse’s biochemistry and promote overall health with a customized supplement nutrition plan.”

“Tex acted oddly and wouldcringe and act abused whenever

you tried to touch him,” saysLaRae Fletcher Powell. “Horse

Hair Analysis™ showed him to beo the charts low in bio-available

Selenium. After 4 weeks on acustom supplement he was a

dierent horse.”

After running the Horse Hair Analysis, Trish Hunley discovered that her gelding was loaded with heavy metals and low on some important minerals. She ordered the custom supplement for him and within months. Hunley said, “there were big improvements. He has more energy and isn’t muscle sore or stiff anymore. This was such a fast way to get great results.”

“Zahrah had hives for years. After doing the HHA, we purchased the personal supplement designed just for her. She has been hive free since January. We are so pleased. She’s happier and comfortable again. I highly recommend Horse Hair Analysis,” says Lauren Morris of Washington state.

The Horse Hair Analysis™ process is simple. Owners submit a small sample of mane hair along with a form and symptom questionnaire. Lab analysis is completed, a report is generated explaining the vitamin and mineral deicienciesand possibility of heavy metal toxicity. A customized nutritional and supplement program is recommended. Re-testing issuggested a year later to assure perfect bio-chemical balance. Once achieved, there are several sustainable supplements available through DePaolo Equine Concepts™ to ensure continued optimum good health. DePaolo Equine Concepts™ is notedfor pioneering new equine healthcare approaches and for combining traditional medicine with holistic methods.

DEC is the only comprehensive Horse Hair Analysis™ and treatment system completely customized to suit the individual horse’s needs.
