Thank you to all of our community members who attended our June Friendly Friday last week It was once again lovely to see some new faces as well as our regular parents We were surprised to hear that some of our parents are still not aware that Friendly Fridays were happening at our school Perhaps if you speak to a member of our community remind them that it is on every fourth Friday of the month and that EVERYBODY is welcome including toddlers grandparents aunts and uncles Our next Friendly Friday will be held at the end of the first week of Term 3 (27th July) and we will be using it as a forum to introduce our new Deputy Principal David Shearer So come along and say hi to David It would be lovely for him to meet some of our beautiful community members and will give you an opportunity to put a name to the face We are also planning some light entertainment from some of our students to celebrate the occasion

Irsquod just like to take this opportunity to thank all of our wonderful families for your support and words of encouragement to our incredibly hard working teachers and staff Term 2 is a particularly busy time for our teachers as they prepare reports while still providing outstanding

teaching and learning opportunities for our students

Just a reminder for our community that Term 2 concludes on Friday 6th June and Term 3 begins for students on Tuesday 24th July 2018 The staff will be working hard on our School Staff Development Day Monday 23rd July learning about SCOUT (Scout provides access to data from disparate sources from across the department as well as external sources enabling you to perform analysis and support planning reporting and data-driven informed decision making) Aboriginal Education Literacy Pro (reading lexiles) and then revising our Fire Extinguisher Awareness Training I would like to take this opportunity to wish everybody in our school community a very happy and safe holiday

Last Thursday most students received their half yearly report To discuss this report in more detail please ensure that you meet with your childrsquos teacher on either tonight or Wednesday afternoon bookings are essential Now that the online booking system is closed if you wish to make an appointment please contact the office for assistance Alternatively speak to the class teacher and they may be able to organise a phone interview or an interview at a later date When reading your childrsquos report remember that sound is the expected level of achievement according to the childrsquos age Please note that a sound grade is a good grade All children need continued acknowledgement and praise to maintain enthusiasm and their commitment to learning As you are discussing your childrsquos report remember grades are important but we need balance A happy enthusiastic and hardworking child is just as important Always encourage your child to strive to do their best thatrsquos all that we ask

A reminder for students in 4T that your interviews are next term

This Thursday we will hold the last of our Just for Jacqui fundraising with a Pyjama day All students are able to come to school dressed in their Pyjamas teachers included The cost of this privilege is a gold coin donation No slippers please closed in shoes only Next term Education week will be held the week of the 6th August 2018 Open classrooms which will celebrate student learning will be held on Tuesday 7th August followed by a book parade and a shared lunch The theme for Education Week 2018 is Todays schools ndash creating tomorrows worldrsquo This year the focus is on the way that public schools are future-proofing their students to succeed in the 21st century and will be the focus of Education Week 2018 Students will participate in many varied activities supporting the theme Parents are invited to attend the open classrooms More information will be sent home next term

Recently I had to remind students that school supervision begins at 830am Over 20 students were waiting for gates to open prior to 815am Whilst I understand that parents work and have commitments however leaving students unattended on the footpath is unsafe and at this time of the year extremely cold If you need information about before school care please contact the office on 87830859 If your child walks to school encourage them to leave a little later The school bell rings at 855am to begin the start of the day All students should be

on the school grounds when this bells rings The afternoon bell rings at 300pm Students are instructed to go straight home at this time Students still waiting for parents at 315pm are brought to the office These students need to be signed out from the office once parents or guardians arrive If you require information about after school care this too can be provided Many teachers have 300pm meetings to attend it is vitally important that students are picked up on time to allow teachers to attend their meetings

EDUCATION WEEK heTHEN FROM ME FROM ME SURVEY

If your child has to be absent from school for any reason please send a signed note explaining the reason for the absence to the class teacher within seven days A doctor certificate may be required We encourage children to remain at home if sick but encourage them to attend if well Here at Greenway Park we believe that it is important for

students to attend school on a regular basis to ensure that

they can achieve their academic potential The messages are

that lsquoItrsquos Cool to Be at Schoolrsquo lsquoItrsquos Not Great to Be Latersquo and lsquoItrsquos Not Okay to Be Awayrsquo

We ask that parents support us with delivering the message at home If you are having difficulties

with your children coming to school due to circumstances at home please come and see us as we

may be able to help

Research has identified that excessive absenteeism

regardless of its nature will eventually impede a studentrsquos

ability to reach his or her academic potential It has been

calculated that if students miss as little as eight days in a

school term by the end of primary school they will have

missed a year of education Regular school attendance

will help your children to succeed in later life

Attending school every day makes learning easier for a

child and helps children to build and maintain friendships

with other children If your child doesnrsquot learn the basic

skills in the early years of school they may develop

learning problems in later years as key foundation

knowledge is missed This is especially critical in

Deputy Principals Report

Maria Cutri

PARENT TEACHER INTERVIEWS heTHEN FROM ME FROM ME SURVEY

Attending school every day makes learning easier for a

child and helps children to build and maintain friendships

with other children If your child doesnrsquot learn the basic

skills in the early years of school they may develop

learning problems in later years as key foundation

knowledge is missed This is especially critical in

mathematics and literacy

that Minecraft

uses coding

We didnrsquot

4T also didnrsquot believe that coding

and mathematics go hand in hand

During our lessons we have been

practicing our maths skills without even realizing that we were

doing maths We have had to calculate how many steps characters

needed to move in order to complete a challenge or to move up a

level We also had to use positioning (left right up and down)

and the most important one we had to use our problem solving

skills to go through doors and to pass obstacles especially

when some levels got difficult

4T have had so much fun and are so excited to become

coding experts
