Lent, with its disciplines of prayer, fasting and charity, is all about re-

pentance, renewal and healing from sin. The Gospel tells of Jesus’ encounter with a woman who had a long history of brokenness and iso-lation. As she meets Jesus and experiences his life-changing mercy, so, too, can we receive new life and living water from the Word and sacrament in which we encounter Christ.

PARISH MISSION STATEMENT In the spirit of St. Teresa of Kolkata, we honor Christ by com-ing together as one faith community with the pledge to reach out to the lonely and less fortunate. Our mission is to engage in unselfish acts of kindness and compassion, sharing our blessings with a humble heart.

MISION PARROQUIAL

THIRST Each time today’s Gospel story is read, I can’t help but think of the many television commercials I’ve seen depicting perspiring

athletes lifting a beverage to their lips while the scorching sun beats down on them. Our culture has definite ideas about how to quench thirst. Today, those ideas are turned upside down. The Samaritan woman operates, ini-tially, on the TV commercial level. She asks Jesus for the flowing water so that she will not have to keep com-ing to the well. Jesus then talks about what real thirst is, and how he, and he alone, can quench that thirst. Lent

calls us to find those places deep within ourselves where we thirst. In our thirst, as did the Israelites, we cry out to God ask-ing for springs of living water. Deep down we know that only the Lord can satisfy these thirsts.Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

Baptized in the Lord Natalia Elise Colio

Emilian Andres Alvikas Let us remember in our prayers the newly baptized, the parents and the godparents as together

they begin their journey with Christ. PRE-BAPTISM CLASS is required for fir st-time par-ents. The next scheduled session will be on Tuesday, April 7, at 7:00pm St. Pius X school building. To at-tend this session, you are asked to register by calling the parish office at 412-531-2135. GODPARENT/SPONSOR REQUIREMENTS—The Catholic Church guidelines to be a sponsor and godparent mandate a registered, active parishioner who is baptized, confirmed and practicing the Catholic faith and is at least 16 years old. To be active one must attend Mass on a reg-ular basis. When you meet the requirements, you will need a Sponsor Letter to present to the parish where the sacrament will be received.

REMEMBRANCE: Our prayers and sympathy are extended to the family and friends of those who have passed away this past week:

PARISH SPIRITUAL OPPORTUNITIES

BIBLE STUDY is held each Tuesday from 7:00 to 8:00pm in Cullen Hall of St. Pius X Church (beneath the Church), except March 17 and March 24. These two nights we will attend the Lenten Study.

LENTEN STUDY--In this film and study program, Bishop Robert Barron illuminates biblical stories of conversion, demonstrating how ordinary people, just like you, were met by Jesus where they were and called to a better life through him. The common theme in each story is the turning of all one's attention and energy toward an ever deeper, personal relationship with Jesus Christ. There are 2 sessions: Tuesday, March 17 and Tuesday, March 24, from 7:00-8:15 pm at St. Pius X Church Hall. Free Program – Refreshments Pro-vided!! Questions? Contact [email protected] 412-563-0858. (There will be no Bible Study either evening.) MEN’S RETREAT—St. Teresa of Kolkata’s Annual Men’s Weekend Retreat begins on Friday, April 17 at 4:30pm and continues through Sunday, April 19 at noon at St. Paul of the Cross Passionist Retreat Center, South Side. All men are invited to grow your faith during a relaxing, spiritual weekend with fellow parishioners. For more information and reserva-tions, contact Rich Schenck at 412-531-0812.

LEGION OF MARY--You are invited to join the Legion of Mary, the largest lay evangelization network in the world, founded in 1921 by Servant of God, Frank Duff, an advisor on lay ministry to the Vatican Council. We meet in Resur-rection Church Hall at 10am every Monday. The dual purpose of this apostolate is the sanctification of its members and bringing the Good News of Jesus to others. A weekly meeting, daily rosary and recitation of the Magnificat and two hours of apostolic work a week are the minimum require-ments. If you want to be a saint and help others to do that, join us!

STATIONS OF THE CROSS

Every Friday in Lent except Good Friday at the following times: 3:30pm St. Catherine of Siena 6:30pm St. Pius X WOMEN’S RETREAT--Registrations are still being accept-ed for this special event being held on Saturday, March 21. The guest speaker will be Fr. John Marcucci. The theme will be: ‘The Mystique of Feminine Disciple-ship.’ Registration forms can be found in the back of the church and must be turned into the Parish office by Monday morning, March 16.

SCAMS—Please be careful of scams. Lately people have been telling me that they got an email from me asking them to re-spond. It came from an account with my name on that isn’t mine. I will never ask you for money through an email, and certainly not for gift cards. Please be careful! It would be nice to be able to trust everyone in our world, but the only one we can fully trust is GOD. May he keep all of us safe from those who want to take advantage of us.

FEAST OF SAINT JOSEPH—March 19

Joseph, someone once joked, was indeed the perfect husband: the only major character in Jesus’ story who never utters a word!

But the Gospel and Liturgy recount his si-lent witness of faith-filled deeds: “With a husband’s love he cherished Mary, the Vir-gin Mother of God; with fatherly care he watched over Jesus.” Catholic devotion, therefore, hails him as patron-protector of the universal Church. Some cultures set a festive “Saint Joseph’s Table,” welcoming

the poor and strangers to feast with family and friends. Tradition keeps today as the anniversary of his death, which we presume was peaceful, with Jesus and Mary present. Thus, Catholics in-voke Joseph as Patron of a Happy Death. Descended from Da-vid’s house, which God finished “building” through Joseph’s provision of a home for Mary and Jesus, he was a carpenter by trade; thus, patron of workers.—Peter Scagnelli, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

The Prayer of St. Patrick—March 17 I arise today Through God’s strength to pilot me; God’s wisdom to guide me, God’s ear to hear me, God’s word to speak for me, God’s hand to guard me, God’s shield to protect me.
