NOVEMBER 2014 Hello Everyone, I’m sorry that we’ve been so quiet on the newsletter front, but with Ngaire away overseas and Quilliam having had another knee operation the newsletter team has been out of action. But with both of us back and running let’s catch up here. SPRING EXHIBITION: This year’s exhibition felt as though the society had reached a new benchmark. It may have been the overall quality of the works shown, it may have been the weather or it may have been another intangible factor but the majority view was that the show was excellent. Our judge (Mark Lander) was extremely impressed with the quality of the work and put a real effort into coming up with the prize-winners. Numerically the show was also a great success with exhibits and sales being up on previous years. Guest Artist, Vjekoslav Nemesh, showed a number of his very colourful works, which were almost universally admired and made a great entrance to this year’s show. Awards This year we decided that we would offer “Merit Awards” in three categories (watercolour, acrylic/oil and other media) along with “Highly Commended” certificates to those works that the judge deemed warranted them. This was in addition to our “Russell Andrews Cup” for the work the judge felt was the best in the show. We also were glad to add a new voucher prize donated and judged by Gordon Harris Art Supplies. Prize winners Russell Andrews Cup for best in show Susan Fergusson for “Abstract Gloriana” The Gordon Harris Prize Libby Handy for “Atmosphere” Peoples Choice Award Kay Ridout for Pohutukawa Water Colour Merit Certificates June Mounter for “Picnic” Jane Thomas for “Consequences 7 We want to save this house” Acrylic/Oil Merit Certificates Libby handy for “Atmosphere” Paul Smith for “Coastal Surge #2! WORKSHOPS & TUTORIALS 2015: If members have any ideas about artists we should approach to run tutorials for us next year please let a committee member know. TUESDAY AFTERNOON ROSTER: The committee is aware that there are a number of you who would like to continue working at the Gospel Hall later into the afternoon. This is an ongoing issue, which we have tried unsuccessfully to solve in the past. We are wondering whether there are any members who would be prepared to, regularly work until 2 or 2.30pm and be President: Ngaire Hunt 313 5271 e-mail [email protected] Secretary Cena Moulson 310 6226 e-mail [email protected] Treasurer: Sue Newick 313 7823 e-mail [email protected] Our website: www.rangioraart.org.nz

As voted on at our last AGM the next Annual General Meeting will be in May 2015, Subs, however, will still need to be paid before 31 March. There are a number of members who are keen to paint outdoors and we will be looking for opportunities while the weather is good. CALENDAR: After a flurry of sales at the exhibition we have forgotten to promote our great 2015 calendar. At only $12 these are a great Christmas gift and are available at our Tuesday sessions.
