In the spring 2017 Bang & Olufsen, world-known Danish manufacturer of exclusive and innovative high-tech products, were to re-negotiate their Microsoft Enterprise Agreement.

In order to answer and understand the optimization options available, SolidQ collaborated with Bang & Olufsen to conduct a Data Platform Modernization engagement. This allowed SolidQ to gather and thoroughly analyze the Band & Olufsen data landscape and construct a detailed feasibility report recommending how best to consolidate and modernize their SQL Server environment.

A key point revealed by SolidQ’s report showed:

Bang & Olufsen could in fact improve and modernize their SQL enterprise within their current license agreement. In addition, the workshop and report generated helped to create a detailed go-forward plan to consolidate the SQL Server environment.

“Once we launch the plan, we will have newer versions of SQL Server that are consolidated, streamlined, and more efficient with enhanced new functionality. At the same time we will save money, because we do not need to invest in new licenses!”, Says Jørgen Stig Jensen, Technical Business Architect at Bang & Olufsen.

Bang & Olufsen wished to better understand its hardware and SQL Server installation to see how it could be optimized to perform better together. This was critical to determine the cost of Microsoft’s new license model as it is dependent on the number of cores used.
