Merry Christmas! You may recall that we recently learned that tithing is God’s plan to support God’s designated place of worship, the local church, as well as those who give their lives to it. 13 Don’t you realize that those who work in the temple get their meals from the offerings brought to the temple? And those who serve at the altar get a share of the sacrificial offerings. 14 In the same way, the Lord ordered that those who preach the Good News should be supported by those who benefit from it.

1 Corinthians 9:13-14 (NLT)

Just as the Levites in the Old Testament lived off the tithes of grain and animals, modern-day servants who spend their lives in the service of the church are provided for by the tithe.

Every ministry (children’s, youth, adult, senior adult), every program or special event, every missions activity, sermon, Bible study, phone call, newsletter, pastoral visit or prayer that involves any of the staff of FBC is made possible by your tithe.

This creates a very unique and special bond between the staff of a church and those they serve. We do not serve as individuals; we serve as your representatives. For example, when my phone rings at 11 o’clock on Friday night because someone has been taken to the ER, I go to see them not because I’m Nate Leonard, but because I’m the pastor of First Baptist Church and the faithful tithers of First Baptist Church have commissioned me to serve on their behalf. Likewise, when I provide pastoral care, teach a Bible study, lead a committee, or preach a sermon, I do so because your tithes enable me to.

But this is not all your tithing does. Praise be to God, because of his great blessing your tithe is sufficient to do more than just support your staff. We allocate monies to support missionaries and local mission agencies, to offset the expenses for ministries that we do here, to purchase Bible study materials and print the bulletins, to maintain the facilities we meet in and much, much more.

This Christmas I am thankful to be your partner in ministry! What a joy it is to serve the Lord together. Your servant for His sake,

Pastor Nate

Southern Baptists have always focused on missions. From the beginning they saw a need for people with experience to take the Good News of Jesus to those who’ve never heard. Decades of learning from successes—and failures—have fine-tuned a mandate to inspire, encourage and send workers. Nearly 4,900 missionaries sent out through International Mission Board (IMB) are sharing their faith around the world. But they can’t reach the world alone.

Gifts through the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering & Cooperative Program make all this possible. Southern Baptists’ faithful giving undergirds the thousands of missionaries sent from our churches, through IMB, and all for a single, eternal purpose: making disciples in the name of Jesus. This is what it means for all of us, together, to be totally His.

Because you gave... In recent years, the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering and Cooperative Program enabled missionaries and their national partners to: 1.75 million people have heard a gospel witness; 275,000 new believers were baptized; 21,000 leaders were trained to start new churches; 444,263 nationals met in on-going Bible studies.

The CBF Offering for Global Missions is the way many CBF field personnel are

supported in ministry. Your gifts to the Offering are what sends them to the mission field and keeps them there

to be and share the presence of Christ.

“The Glory of Christmas” Sanctuary Choir Christmas Cantata—Sunday, Dec. 13 at 11:00am and 5:00pm

This musical offering will feature the thirty-voice Sanctuary Choir singing the timeless message of the birth of our Savior, accompanied by an orchestral ensemble. A love offering will be collected to support the FBC Friendship Fund which was established in 2005 for First Baptist Church members who are tempo-rarily in need of financial assistance. Be sure to include this wonderful musical event in your Advent cele-

bration and invite family and friends to join you. Childcare is available for children ages birth–3 years.

Hanging of the Greens Service—Sunday, November 29 — 8:30 & 11am The Advent season is upon us--a time of preparation. Church members are already unpacking, fluffing and straightening to be ready to adorn God’s house with all of the symbols of the season. Our children’s and adult choirs have been working hard to be able to share with you the songs of Jesus' birth.

The church family will celebrate the first Sunday of Advent with the Hanging of the Greens during 8:30 and 11:00am worship. Each service will highlight some of the traditional elements of the service followed by homilies from Pastor Nate emphasizing the scriptural significance of the symbols within the Christian life. The congregation will participate in some of the aspects of decorating at each service with the 11:00 service focusing more on the involvement of the children.

The Hanging of the Greens provides an opportunity to prepare both God’s house and ourselves. But most importantly, we will gather as the FBC family to worship the Savior and to be reminded that God's precious gift of His Son is the reason we celebrate. Invite someone to experience with you the joy of the season as we prepare for the coming of Christ.

Christmas Eve Candlelight Communion Service Thursday, Dec. 24th at 5:30pm

Celebrate the eve of our Savior’s birth with the family of FBC in our sanctuary. Childcare is available for children ages birth – 3 yrs.

Salvation Army—Red Kettle Volunteers Needed to Ring the Bell

Through December 24

Yes, it is time again to “Do the Most Good” to help our friends and neighbors! All monies raised through this ministry in the Carteret County area are used in our local communities to help those in need during the Christmas holiday and throughout the year.

To sign up go to www.redkettlevolunteer.org and set up an account. Once you have set up the account and clicked on “Create An Account” tab, you will receive an email confirmation. Follow the instructions to schedule the place, date, and time you will be able to volunteer. So easy! But, if you should have a question call the Morehead City Salvation Army office (726-7147) or Jane Capps (726-1823). Please share this information with your family, friends, church members and organizations who may want to Ring the Bell.

Bell ringers will be needed through December 24th (no Sundays). Bell-ringing is for kids, teens, families, senior adults—everyone. Get a group together from your church, school, or place of employ-ment and volunteer for a day (taking 2-4 hour shifts), or volunteer as an individual, whatever your preference.

White Christmas Food Box Ministry December 19

This year our church is planning to prepare and deliver Food Boxes to 35 families in our community. The food boxes will feed a family for a week. Cost of perishables is approximately $45 per box. Contributions to this ministry may be made by December 15 to the church office. Please make checks payable to FBC indicating White Christmas on the memo line and turn it in or mail it to the church office.

If you would like to volunteer to help deliver the boxes please call the church office (726-4142).

Project Christmas Cheer

“When I was hungry, you fed me, when I was naked you clothed me…. When did I do this Lord? When you do this unto the least of these my brethren, you do it unto me.” Matthew 25:35-40

For the past 30 years, Project Christmas Cheer has worked in conjunction with the residents of Carteret County to provide help in a variety of ways to those in need at Christmas. Whether it is food for a family, toys or clothing items for children and socks or gloves for the elderly, PCC brings smiles to the faces of those who would otherwise have nothing at Christmas. Those needing help are identified through a coordination with the Department of Social Services, Salvation Army, area churches and other agencies. Many families have applied for assistance and after meeting the criteria, children wear new coats, pants, shirts, pajamas and underwear that find their way into beautifully wrapped boxes and under Christmas trees to be opened on Christmas morning. Baby dolls, toy trucks, puzzles, basketballs, bicycles, board games and a variety of other toys provide hours of entertainment and fun for children who have so little.

During the 2014 Christmas season 561 families in Carteret County were assisted through Project Christmas Cheer. There were 1,019 children adopted and provided gifts due to the generous support of the citizens of Carteret County.

There are several ways that YOU can help the needy at Christmas: You can make a tax deductible financial gift to PCC (These monies are used to purchase gift cards for those children who are not adopted

from the Angel Trees.) You can adopt a child/children/family from one of the four Angel Trees that we have set up in the county and buy Christmas gifts for

him/her/them. You can volunteer your time to help in one of many areas of service necessary to make PCC a success each year. If you will call the PCC

office, we can match your talent with a particular area of service. NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY to help with PCC.

The PCC office phone number is 247-7275. The mailing address is: PO Box 1914, Morehead City, NC 28557 Please visit the PCC website at: www.projectchristmascheer.com or visit them on Facebook.

The Angel Trees have been a long standing way to encourage the public to adopt a child in need during the Christmas season. This year there are 4 Angel tree locations in Carteret County. A child’s name and details are placed on the Angel Tree, and those persons who wish to help can choose an angel to adopt. Your donation to this child could be the only gifts they get to open on Christmas morning…so please consider visiting an Angel Tree and making a difference in the life of a young child. Angel Tree locations and times for 2015: Shepherd of the Sea Lutheran Church, 201 E. Fort Macon Rd., Atlantic Beach, 726-7465, Ext. 3/Open Wednesday, Nov. 11: Wed and Fri 1-4 pm; Sat and Sun 12 pm-3 pm One Harbor Church, 702 Arendell St., Morehead City, 422-2899/Sundays 8:30-9:00; 10:30-11:00; 12:00-12:30 Church Office, 1305 Arendell St., Tue and Fri 11 am -1 pm One Harbor Church, 214 Turner St. Beaufort/Open Sundays 8:30-9:00; 10:30-11:00; 12:00-12:30 Smyrna Pentecostal Church, 85 Highway 70, Smyrna 729-7729 Open Sundays 9:30 am-1:00pm; Mon and Fri 10 am-2 pm; Wed 2 pm- 5 pm

LOCAL EMERGENCY FUND Help FBC help others. The monies available in our Local Emergency Fund’s are low. The Local Emergency Fund was established to help those in our community, who are temporarily in need of financial assistance to pay an electric bill, rent, or other need. Donations may be made to FBC and designated to the Local Emergency Fund on the memo line.

What a joy it was to return to Caswell this past weekend for “Embrace” – Fall Retreat 2015! Eleven youth and three adults spent this time together worshiping, studying God’s word, and learning what it means to be a young man or woman who honors God in our world today. On Saturday afternoon we took part in recreational track times, had a cornhole tournament with our own youth group, enjoyed some free time, then spent some time intentionally getting to know each other. God really spoke to us during the weekend, one placed her faith and trust in Jesus as Savior, and others made recommitments. Time well spent!

Youth and families - if you like good old-fashioned country cooking, the crisp night air, the smell of fresh hay, and the lights of the Christmas Season then join us for an evening at Mike’s Farm on Friday, December 11. We’ll depart from the K-mart parking lot by 3:45pm and get there in time to eat dinner and then enjoy the hayride and light show. Cost for adults is $26.92. We will supplement the cost for each student so their cost is only $15. Please let Miss Deb know if you are planning to go.

Youth Christmas Party is Sunday, December 20, 6-10pm at the Lockey’s. Bring finger foods and friends.

It’s time to start thinking about ski trip, and youth camp and mission trip for next summer so please take note of the following events, times to register, and deposit due dates.

SKI TRIP TO WINTERGREEN, February 13-15, Saturday-Monday, $242, which includes lodging at the Holiday Inn Express in Waynesboro, complimentary breakfast at the hotel, meal vouchers for supper Saturday and lunch on Sunday, skiing from 5-10pm on Saturday and all day Sunday (after we have our worship service) until 5pm. A $60 deposit is needed to reserve your spot and is due by Sunday, December 6. This is a commitment and is non -refundable.

SUMMER YOUTH CONFERENCE at CASWELL - June 27-July 2, cost around $320. No deposit necessary but you must sign up by December 27.

WORLD CHANGERS in Franklin, NC, July 11-16, Cost $269 – World Changers is a mission trip during which we do construction work in the community – building decks, painting houses, etc. We stay at a school and sleep on air mattresses on the floor, eat in the cafeteria for breakfast and supper and on the job site for lunch. We worship together with the other youth groups at night. We will go white-water rafting on Saturday before returning home, and that will be an extra cost.

Miss Deb

Senior Adult Sunday was a highlight for our Senior Adults here at First Baptist as we worshiped together and enjoyed fellowship around the table. It was a joy to have Dr. Croom with us to preach, and we were touched by the testimony of

Wanda Eastep, as well as the music ministry of our JOY-Makers Choir with Bill Williams and his mandolin. We had around 80 senior adults for our luncheon. During the luncheon we honored Mrs. Charity Beck and Mr. Shelby Freeman as our old-est senior adult members, and Mr. and Mrs. Ed Robinson as our senior couple married the longest. A huge thanks goes to Jeff Williams and his helpers who provided an outstandingly delicious meal for all of us! Our Joy Club Christmas Party will be on Saturday, December 5 from 2:00-4:00pm. We still do not have a location for that party so if someone wants to volunteer to host this precious group of seniors in their home, please contact Deborah Lockey. Food will be provided. We will let you know where we will be having the party as the time nears.
