ST. PAUL’S COMMUNION STATEMENT: Our Lord Jesus graciously shares with us His body and blood to forgive our sins, assure us of salvation, strengthen our faith, and unite us as members of His church. We believe:

That we are sinful human beings in need of forgiveness;

That the Lord’s Body and Blood are truly present in the bread and wine which He offers us;

That through the sacrament we are forgiven of our sins;

and strengthened to live as God’s people. If you share this faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, we invite you to join us at His table. If you do not wish to take communion, you are invited to cross your arms over your chest and receive a blessing from the Pastor. If you have any questions, please consult the Pastor or a Lay Minister.

COME AS YOU ARE Welcome to St. Paul Lutheran Church! We are a community of believers from all walks of life, who face all kinds of daily struggles and challenges. We don’t have all the answers, but we know the One who does. We don’t always get things right, but by God’s grace we follow the One who never sinned. We are not perfect people, just forgiven people, and you’ll fit in just as you are! You don’t need to bring the perfect clothes or the perfect smile or the perfect family…just yourself, with all your questions or hurts or scars, and let Jesus take it from there!

Jesus: Famous but Misunderstood In Mark’s presentation of Jesus, there is a lot of misunderstand-ing and questioning. Jesus teaches and acts with power, even as those around Him, including His own disciples, ask, “Who is this?” Jesus’ words and actions show His power and authority as God’s Son. How does Jesus act and speak with power in our lives today? How is He misunderstood and questioned in our world? And how can we be faithful witness that Jesus is truly the Son of God? In this series, We will look at Mark 1-6 and get a good picture of “Mark’s Jesus,” focusing on passages where His identity and power are questioned or demonstrated.

Sermon Notes Series: Jesus, Famous But Misunderstood

Title: Jesus, God For Us

Text: Mark 6:45-56

Jesus does not come to us in judgment, but mercy!

1) Walking on the sea and “passing by “ His people are ways the Old Testament

describes ______ __________.

Examples: Isaiah 43; Psalm 77; Exodus 33; 1 Kings 19!

2) The disciples’ ________ is also the “normal” reaction to being in God’s

______________ or hearing His _________.

Examples: Isaiah 6; Exodus 20; Mark 9 and Matthew 17!

3) Jesus reminds the apostles and us that He is ________ in the flesh. He is _______

us, but also completely “_________.”

Sometimes the “________________” of God can lead us to anger, ________,

and even hopelessness.

Sometimes we can be too ____________________ with God and think we

have Jesus “all figured out.”

God wants us to be __________________ in our faith but not to forget that

He is ________ (and we are not).

4) Jesus responds to the disciples’ misunderstanding and fear with _________,

showing that He is ______ them, not against them.

Jesus comes to us today through the ________ _____ __________,

promising that He is for you, not against you!

Living As God's Stewards-Weekly Update

We continue to keep you informed about St. Paul’s financial situation through these weekly updates. We will share this information here, through videos, and in our monthly newsletter, In The Know. We want you to be informed so that as you lift up St. Paul in your prayers, you can pray specifically for God’s provision for the ministry as you give, participate and support the mission and outreach.

Here are the numbers from last week: Last week, the weekly regular offerings (in-person, mail and online) totaled $12,833.58.This is $1,295.11 over our WEEKLY budget need of $11,538.47*. We have a deficit of $ 2,701.05 for the year. To make up this differ-ence, we need to exceed our $11,538.47 weekly income. This could be as simple as giving $10-20 a week more. We trust that God will bless our congregation and sup-ply us with what we need to serve His Kingdom. We also pray that God will lead us to look at how we use the gifts that He has given us to support His work through St. Paul. Pastor Gregory Lorenz *$11,538.47 represents our weekly budgeted need for church offerings. This is calculated by dividing the annual amount of budgeted CHURCH OFFERINGS ($600,000) by 52 weeks. School and Early Learning Center income is in addition to this amount and is used to cover School and ELC expenses.

Gifts to God -- Sunday, July 18, 2021

July 18 Offering $ 9,884.00

July 18 Online Giving $ 2,949.58

Surplus (Deficit) for Week $ 1,295.11

Non-payroll Expenses July 19-24, 2021 $ 18,241.01
