From The Principal’s Desk
As term one draws to a close it is time to reflect on some of the
great things that have happened this term.
In staffing news I wish to particularly acknowledge the
outstanding work of Mr Bernard Locke in Science. Mr Locke
stepped into the school last year to fill in for Mr Webb and has
done an outstanding job, particularly with Senior Science and
with all the help he has given in one on one support to HSC
students. I wish to also welcome Mr Lane and Mr Luck to the
school who have been replacing Mrs Taylor whilst she is on
leave. I am pleased to announce Mr Brett Hull has been appointed as our new Head
Teacher Science, starting at the campus officially in 2018. Mr Hull is a very experi-
enced substantive Head Teacher Science and we welcome his depth of knowledge
and experience to the campus. He has already joined in many of the google class-
rooms and is working to support our students. Mr Miller will continue to relieve as
Head Teacher for 2017. As a result he is stepping down from his role as Year Advi-
sor and has been replaced by Mrs Debra Weeks. Mrs Melanie Romano will also be a
Year 12 Year Advisor while Mrs Taylor is on leave. I would like to thank and con-
gratulate Mr Miller for all his work as Relieving Head Teacher Science and Year 12
Year Advisor.
This term has been busy, particularly as we move to a state wide driven initiative
called LMBR that many of you have heard about. A letter has been emailed and also
attached to this newsletter regarding the impact on some of our banking procedures
and facilities. In early Term 2 this will cause disruptions for a short time as computer
systems are merged and we will not be able to accept any money for a period of
time. It is critical that students paying for excursions need to allow ample time to
meet deadlines. I also request that where possible parents pay as much of the subject
contributions as possible to help us with the roll over. I thank all staff, particularly
SASS staff for their work preparing for this major change.
Work continues around the school to improve facilities for students. This work will
hopefully will be completed early next term. The science labs and food tech rooms
are starting to take shape. The hall foyer has also been transformed and is getting
close to completion. CCTV cameras will also be installed over the holidays.
This term we have held parent Teacher Nights for both Year 11 and Year 12 and it is
great to see so many parents attend to show support and help work together with
both teachers and students to best support their students through the HSC and to
achieve their personal best to set them up for clear school to work pathways. Year 11
reports were issued to all Year 11 students.
From The Principal’s Desk
It was my pleasure to host a Principals breakfasts for Year 12 to acknowledge all
the hard work where students have been noted by their teachers as achieving at high
levels across multiple courses. Year 12 have just completed the Mid-Course
Examinations and it is pleasing to see progress on many HSC Major Works
Projects. Overall I have been impressed with their efforts but it is time to lift the
number of hours of study completed outside of school. Hard work equals success
and students need to remember that in an ATAR they are ranked with every student
across the state. More work is needed at home!
During the holidays many of our Year 12 History students are fortunate enough to
go to Europe. For updates go to the blog cceuropetour2017.blogspot.com – you can
sign up to get emails whenever updates occur. I would also like to acknowledge all
the hard work by Carlene Burraston to organise our students and Mr Macey for
organising the tour. Congratulations to the students whose work has been selected
in Central Vision and the outstanding sporting success of many of our students this
term. Congratulations to those who have excelled at sport this term and to all the
students who performed at the Year 12 Year Assembly – amazing!
The culture of a school is extremely important and it is all those little things that
happen around the school and sometimes outside of the classroom that contribute to
making a great school. The goodwill of staff is what allows our school to be so
special and I want to acknowledge all staff for their great work this term and I wish
everyone a safe holiday. Our Campus 2016 Annual Report will be available in
Week 10 on our school website for anyone interested in reading.
We have four students participating in the Maxpotential Leadership program which
is sponsored by Clubs NSW. This program is designed to be challenging and enable
young adults to reflect on both success and challenges with their coach. Our
students this year are Felicity Cheetham, Karly Fulwood, Peter Hammond and
Edelle Villamar. We look forward to hearing about their success.
YEAR 11 AND YEAR 12 DEPUTIES REPORT
Attendance is extremely important.
Who is responsible for student attendance? In New South Wales,
‘compulsory schoolage’ means that all children from six years of
age are legally required to be enrolled at and attending school or
to be registered for home schooling until they turn 17 years of
age. Students then have the following options;
full-time further education and training (e.g. TAFE, traineeship,
apprenticeship);
full-time, paid employment of an average of 25 hours per week; or
a combination of both of the above
Parents or carers are responsible for making sure that their children comply with
these legal requirements. Schools support parents by monitoring student
attendance and helping to address attendance issues when they emerge.
Sporting commitments and more often than not the commitments of employment
are a major factor in students missing school during years 11 and 12.
To help parents with student attendance we will “text” on the day if your child is
absent from school. Class teachers and year advisors monitor student attendance
and will call home and send letters when attendance falls below 85%.
Here are some helpful tips for positive attendance of your child at school. It is only
a guide but may help you!
Develop good routines: Students NEED routine, especially as they become young adults.
These habits are a good foundation that will help throughout their time at The
Entrance Campus and into the future;
Regular pattern of study each day
Have uniforms, school bag and all school things organised the night before
Try to limit late night shifts
Go to bed at a reasonable time each night
Monitor screen time and encourage all electronic devices be switched off
one hour before going to sleep
Get up at the SAME time each morning
Have breakfast each morning
Leave for school at the SAME time each day (be on time!)

The Education Act (1990): require parents to ensure that their children of
compulsory age attend school on each day that the school is open unless there is
good reason for them not attending. If students are absent, parents are required to
explain their absences of their children from school promptly and within 7 school
days to the school. An explanation for absences must be provided to the school
within 7 days of the FIRST day of any absence.
Nigel Wells
Deputy Principal—Year 11
Where did that 11 weeks go? If you have a child in Year 12,
they have approximately only 90 school days remaining.
Year 12 Mid Course Examinations occurred in the last 2
weeks of Term 1. As students get their results back next term,
I encourage them to pay close attention to the feedback and
plan for improvement in the Trial HSC.
Year 12 Parent Teacher Evening was held Tuesday 16 May.
It was wonderful to see so many parents showing their
support. The bookings made using the parent portal was also
great to see.
Congratulations Matthew French who was successful in his application for the
NSW Veteran Affairs Scholarship to travel to Western Europe later this year to
commemorate the bicentenary of World War II.
Major Works Consolidation Day is on Friday 7 April for all Year 12 students
doing a course with a Major Project. Thank you in advance to the class teachers who
work one on one with students all day to support them with their projects.
Year 12 students have been lucky enough to be involved in numerous
extra-curricular activities offered at the campus (excursions, sporting events,
leadership days). The teachers at TEC give up a lot of their free time to organise
these wonderful opportunities for students. Students can show their appreciation by
thanking the teacher/s involved and ensuring they catch up on missed work.
YEAR 11 AND YEAR 12 DEPUTIES REPORT
Assessment Tasks – with only 90 school days remaining, students need to ensure
they are making the most of their time. Assessment tasks in most courses make up
50% of the HSC mark. Sadly there are some students who have not completed
tasks or failed to submit them by the due date. If your child has received an
N Determination Warning letter, they need to see their class teacher and catch
up on the missed task. If they fail to do so then they are at risk of not getting their
HSC. The assessment booklet and all tasks are on the TEC website;
Click on ‘Assessment Tasks’ and follow the links.
Attendance – please read Mr Wells’ report on attendance. Remember ONLY 90
days for YR 12.
Uniform – Year 12 jackets will be at school and ready to hand out on the first day
back of next term (Wednesday 26 April). If students did not purchase a Year 12
jacket then this is a reminder that only red jumpers are acceptable school
uniform. Please contact the school if you need assistance with school uniform.
Term 2 starts Wednesday 26 April for all students.
Wishing everyone a safe and happy Easter break.

Well done to many of our Year 11 students who have handed in their first assessment
tasks for the various subjects we offer at The Entrance Campus. I particularly
enjoyed seeing the Design and Technology
class submit their working Rube Goldberg
Machine projects. Many students opted to
use the Tuesday afternoon tutorial ‘Drop In’
in order to have their machines functioning
prior to submission. Tuesday afternoon
‘Drop In’ occurs in various locations
throughout the school, including: the
Library, H Block and E Block. Students are
encouraged to talk to their teachers to find
out which location they should attend for their subject area.
All year 11 students have now settled into the school and have a deepened
understanding of how our school operates. Bell times are now familiar to students as
well as the classroom resources, classroom set up and classroom expectations.
Students should note that if they turn up to school after 8:00 am for any reason, then
they must see the office staff to sign in as a late arrival. A slip will be issued to
students which they must show to their teacher upon arriving to class.
School Jackets In order for Year 11 students to have their jackets at the start of 2018, the process of
design selection and ordering needs to start now. There is a survey for Year 11 stu-
dents to complete. The link has been posted on the school facebook site but you can
also use this link https://goo.gl/forms/oJdmzc4SKcqu1TFq1 to complete this survey.
Students need to be signed into Google as a student with their
[email protected] for it to work.
Remember as we communicated at the year assembly, students need to get involved
if they want to make the most of their experiences at The Entrance Campus. We
value you opinion, so make it count.
Once the survey has been completed a final design will be created then the students
will be able to pay and order their jackets starting early term 2
Thank you year 11 for a great start to the year.
YEAR 12 ADVISOR’S REPORT
Ben Maher Karen Taylor Mel Romano
Term 1 has been extremely busy this year with lots happening both on and off
campus. Sporting teams have had success within early knockout rounds in Touch
Football, Volleyball, Tennis, Basketball and Water Polo. We have Sydney North
representatives in Swimming and a special mention to Kiata Hemi who has made the
CHS Volleyball team.
Congratulations to the 92 students who have 100% attendance for Term 1. We know
that academic success is linked tightly with attendance and the importance of being
on campus every day and attending every lesson. Watch out for the free BBQ early
Term 2!
Mid-Course exams are upon us in week 10 so students are reminded about the
importance of an ongoing home study plan to ensure success across a range of
subjects. Don’t forget to use EDROLO as your online support resource. Ensure that
your exam timetable matches your subjects and remember to see Mr Yardy if there
are any problems.
Last day of term is Consolidation Day for all major work subjects. Attendance is
compulsory to get maximum support and feedback from your teachers in these
subjects.
Year 12 Jackets are due to arrive early in Term 2 so listen out for more details in
assemblies when and where to collect. If you missed out make sure you are wearing
full school uniform over the cooler months!
A huge thankyou to Mr Bannerman and Mr Nieass and their musical performers and
backstage crew who created a fantastic Year Assembly in Week 8 to showcase the
talent we have across the CAPA faculty. It was a delight to see student success in
these areas and fantastic how proud these students are of their work.
Fundraising BBQ’s are happening Week 9 for Paris Brennan and Lylah Williamson
who are attending the Global Youth Leaders Conference in the US later in the year,
as well as for Riley Hilditch (BVC) who had a tragic accident a few weeks ago and is
recovering in Westmead Children’s Hospital. Please support both causes this week.
We also need to thank Mr Miller for his role as Year Advisor over the last year and
congratulate him as acting HT Science for the remainder of the year. With that we
now welcome Mrs Weeks who has stepped up in his position as well as Mrs Romano
who is relieving whilst Mrs Taylor is on leave. Mrs Romano will also be helping out
with the Formal later in the year.
Good luck in your exams, study hard and earn yourselves a break over Easter!

Make Your Mark
45 Year 11 students attended an excursion to
the University of Sydney. The bad weather
didn’t dampen the enthusiasm or the positive
manner in which they approached the day.
These students had been selected by their
classroom teachers as suitable inclusions for
this Make Your Mark event. These teacher
recommendations are based on the student’s
commitment to learning and the level of
engagement with learning that they have
already displayed.
Students were taken on a tour of the University
site and had the opportunity to meet with
current students. They heard about the courses
on offer and were given information about life
on campus and scholarships available.
The visit was aimed at providing an
opportunity to show students possible post
school options.
Stay tuned for other events.

MATHEMATICS
PLATINUM
The PLATINUM 2017 – 2018 Class will be forming in Term
2. Students are selected for this program based on academic
performance at TLSC The Entrance so far. The program aims to
provide our top academic and highly committed students opportunities
to interact educationally and socially. This will help them to develop
support networks with other students following a similar pattern of
study for the HSC and remain motivated throughout the end of the
Preliminary HSC course and throughout the HSC. This class will be
run by Mr Ben Yardy on Wednesday afternoons 2:00 – 3:00pm in the
iRoom, as a series of workshop sessions that will enable students to
develop the necessary skills to navigate the HSC successfully and
achieve academic success. Components covered will include time
management; essay/extended response writing across courses;
wellbeing; motivation; past HSC exams and feedback and developing
individual study programs. Other sessions will be included as specific
needs are identified from within the class.
Our school prides itself on its impressive academic history. We are
committed to continuous improvement and quality outcomes for our
students.
This is a great opportunity that should not be missed!
NEWS FROM SOCIAL SCIENCE
Online Revision and Study through Google Classroom The students are well and truly into the routine of school now and we have an online
Google Classroom for every Social Science subject to support this. Our focus in the
Social Science Faculty has been to establish routines in our Year 11 students to
ensure they are completing their work and doing regular revision.
An example of this is that Business Studies and Economics students are expected to
complete a weekly online quiz as a form of revision for the content and skills
covered in class. It is an important part of the learning process that students
consolidate their knowledge after they have covered it in class.
In Year 12, our staff are continuing this theme with online Edrolo quizzes and the
encouragement of draft writing for assessment tasks. The draft writing process,
allows teachers to mentor each student through their writing process and to further
develop their answer to show deep knowledge and understanding of what is taught in
class.
Our teachers have given students study guides and scaffolds for their respective
subjects and the topics they are close to completing. This is guided study for
students, and should be undertaken as a regular routine at home. They are posted on
the Google Classroom and can be accessed online at any time.
We have also had a focus on parent communication to ensure that students are
completing these tasks and we thank all parents for their support in this.
****************************************
The Sharemarket Game: We currently have 25 students enrolled in
the ASX Sharemarket Game. The aim of
this game is to teach students how the
stockmarket works. The students get
$50000 to play a real time online version
of the Australian Stockexchange. While we
are competing online in national
competition, we are also competing with
the Economics class at Brisbane Water
Senior Campus Woy Woy for the Griffin
Dolphin Cup.
The students have 15 weeks of trading which started on March 9th and we already
have some students who are ranking in the Top 100 of the competition. Students are
still welcome to register if they would like to play and any student, regardless of the
subjects they study, are encouraged to play. We will be running Game 2 in Term 3 of
2017. See Mr Muscat for details.
NEWS FROM SOCIAL SCIENCE
The National Geography Competition Entries are still open to participate in the National Geography Competition. The cost
of Entry is $4. This is competition that is focussed on developing practical
Geography Skills. The skills assessed in the competition are assessed by independent
markers and is good ground work for the Multiple Choice section of the Geography
HSC examination. Students who wish to enter need to see Mr Deaves and pay the
entry fee at the front office.
Students can prepare for the competition by logging on at http://
www.geographycompetition.org.au/ and completing a number of online quizzes
from past years.
TAS HAPPENINGS The month of March has seen the TAS Faculty involved in many activities both
inside and outside the school.
Many of our HSC students have been busily working on major projects and
portfolios in Industrial Technology (Timber and Graphics), Textiles and Design, and
Design and Technology. Most of these works will be submitted for marking towards
the end of August, which is only 5 months away.
HSC students will be given the opportunity to work on these projects at the end of
term during our Consolidation Day. Students should make the most of these extra
times. Tuesday afternoon workshops are also valuable additional opportunities to
work on projects.
Hospitality students have also been busy this month, with the Food and Beverage
classes preparing a range of delicious foods for a school based meeting held for
about 25 members of staff from across the region. All guests appreciated not only the
food, but the professional way that it was prepared and presented. The addition of
barista’s – Shelby, Jessica and Billie, made the day an even greater success.
Our Furnishings class are also working on a variety of projects whilst the
Engineering Studies class is involved in STEM based activities that they are keen to
share with our primary school students. The Construction classes in both Years 11
and 12 are working on a mix of theory and practical application of the concepts
being taught.
TAS teaching staff have also been involved in attending college meetings. This
term, The Entrance Campus organised a meeting with both middle schools to look at
the development of portfolio’s for practical based courses. This meeting provided
opportunity for teachers to see portfolio’s completed by students they had previously
taught.
If you have any issues you would like to discuss, please don’t hesitate to contact your
child’s teacher or the Head Teacher - Ms M.Lawless.
Til next time.
Aboriginal Education TLSC Cultural Leadership Day
Fifteen of our Aboriginal students across Year 11 and 12 participated in the
TLSC Cultural Leadership Day last week. Unfortunately, the wet weather
meant we had to cancel the site tour of Pearl Beach with Uncle Gavi but we
were still able to run the day from our conference room in H Block. Students
from Berkley Vale and Tumbi Umbi Campus joined our students and took
part in leadership games, listen to Uncle Gavi’s stories and experiences
regarding leadership and learn about the AECG and Jnr AECG. An election
was held in the afternoon session to form our own TLSC Jnr AECG.
Congratulations to our Tanea Pfarr who was elected as Treasurer.
Thank you to Aunty Lesley, President of the Gosford Regional AECG and
Talara Freeman from Gosford Office who attended the day and inspired our
students to be the strong leaders of tomorrow. We were also lucky enough to
have students and staff from Brooke Avenue Public School come and join in
the day. It was such a humbling moment to see our past student, Muuruun
Leha in action employed in a community role at Brooke Avenue Public
School. Proof that our Cultural Leadership program at The Entrance Campus
is getting deadly results.
Aboriginal Education PLP Mentoring Program
Our Year 11 students have selected their PLP Mentors and we are in the
process of organising a Year 11 PLP Party for the end of this term where
students and mentors can get together, have a yarn and discuss their goals.
Year 12 will have their next PLP Party in Term Two. If you would like to be
a part of this process or would like to discuss your student’s PLP, Ms Ellis is
happy to arrange. Please call the campus to speak with her or leave a
message.
Aboriginal Student Support
Aboriginal students can access academic support from teaching staff in the
Library every Monday and Thursday afternoon. This is in addition to
Tuesday afternoon drop-in sessions and learning support. Please remind your
students about this and encourage them to come along.
Remember to like the TEC ATSI Yarning FaceBook page to be kept up to
date with what is happening on campus and in the local community.
Indigenous All Stars
We had three students taking part in different opportunities through the NRL
Indigenous All Stars Game earlier this term. Kia Durrant was lucky enough
to be selected as a Roosters representative to take part in the three day NRL
Indigenous All Stars Youth Summit. Kia was peer voted as a finalist in their
ambassador role. Cameron Russell and Zachary Molony were selected by the
Wollotuka Institute to watch the game from the Australian Defence Force
corporate box and take part in information sessions run by the ADF.
