We talk about the stores where we’ve received great service and those businesses who have treated us exceedingly well. We share names of good landscapers, house painters, hair salons and others. I’ve learned so much about the business in my community from my neighbors due to these informal networking and information sharing sessions. I value my neighbor’s opinions and suggestions, as they have been most helpful to me when I am searching for new services. This same type of networking occurs at Belmont Village too. Through our "We Choose Our Friends and Neighbors" program, we encourage you to network, too, and share information about your positive experience at Belmont Village. We encourage you to tell your friends about our community and all that it has to offer. If someone you know might be interested in learning more about our community, we’ll be happy to show them around and talk with them further. Here’s the best part: if they move into our community, you will receive $1,000 off one month’s rent for each new resident you refer. I know full well the value of this type of networking; I use it at home, as well as at work. If you want to know about a business, I ask someone who has utilized his or her services. You are all wonderful “spokespeople” for Belmont Village and can easily share great experiences with others. Just think, in addition to receiving a credit on your rent, you will also help fill our fine community with the people who are just as kind, wonderful and thoughtful as you! By participating in “We Choose our Friends and Neighbors” program, everyone benefits! You literally get to choose your neighbors and new friends at Belmont and simultaneously save a little money doing so! Here’s to spreading the good news! And a great thank you to all of you who have supported us throughout the 12 years we have been operating and serving seniors. It is truly a privilege to be part of this organization and team of professionals, and of course serving and providing for all of our residents and families. Respectfully, Judith Uy-Villaruz Executive Director

Waterloo has the best claimregarding the founding of the

holiday. In 1866, Henry Wellesa local pharmacist, proposed a

celebration honoring those whofought and died in the Civil

War. The community gotbehind the idea and on May 5,

1866, the flags in Waterloo wereflown at half-mast; a parade wasorganized; and ceremonies were

held at local cemeteries. 100years later, in May of 1966,President Lyndon Johnson

officially designated Waterlooas “the birthplace of Memorial

Day.”Join us in the Great Room at 3:00

Nerissa’s Notes:Occupational Therapy Month

Occupational Therapy is therapybased on performing the

meaningful activities of dailyliving (self-care skills, education, work and social skills), especially

to enable or enhance participationin such activities, despite

impairments or limitations inphysical or mental functioning.

Occupational therapists are skilledprofessionals. Their educationincludes the study of human

growth and development, withspecific emphasis on the social,

emotional and physical effects ofillness and injury. They are

unique, in that they look at thewhole picture when it comes to a

person’s treatment.They look at the person’s abilities,

task to be performed, and theenvironment in which the task is

to take place.

The older adult benefits fromoccupational therapy because

their goal is to assist withregaining or maintaining a level in

independence that will allowthem to age in place for as long as

possible. Occupational therapyhas been proven effective for

seniors living with various

medical conditions or recoveringfrom surgery. In addition toworking with individuals toincrease strength or regain

important life supporting skills, occupational therapists workthroughout the community,

counseling families, localgovernments, and communitygroups to ensure that each is

doing what it can to help olderadults maintain their

independence.

Belmont Village offers bothoccupational therapy and physical

therapy services. Our WellnessCenter nurses work closely withour therapists to identify those

residents who would benefit fromthese therapies and contacts the

families and physicians tocoordinate care.

We encourage, educate andpromote healthy living.
