1. The olive legend
La leggenda narra di una sfida per donare il regalo più utile agli uomini ,tra Poseidone, re del mare e Atena, padrona di Atene. Al termine fu scelto l’albero dell’ulivo poiché simbolo di pace.
The legend tells of a challenge to give the most useful gift to men between Poseidon,the king of the see and Athena ,mistress of Athens. At the end was chosen the olive tree, as symbol of peace.
2. La leggenda dell’estate di San Martino
Si racconta che in una fredda mattina di novembre Martino donò metà del suo mantello ad un mendicante, tutto lacero e tremante. Dopo il suo gesto il cielo si rischiarò, la nebbia si dissolse e apparve un fulgido sole autunnale; cominciò a far caldo.
-Che strano- pensò Martino- sembra quasi sia tornata l’estate.
Non immaginava, che quel sole fosse un dono di Dio per premiarlo della sua bontà.
2. Saint Martin’s summer
They said that on a cold November morning, Martin gave half of his cloak to a beggar, all torn and trembling. After his gesture, the sky cleared, the fog dissipated and appeared a brilliant autumn sunshine; He began to warm.
-What Strange- thought Martino- seems to be back this summer.
He did not imagine that the sun was a gift from God to reward his kindness.

della scuola dell’infanzia hanno ascoltato i racconti proposti dalle insegnanti, relativi a storie fantastiche ambientate nel nostro paese e nei paesi vicini. Si sono divertiti a sfogliare i libri coloratissimi e a raccontarle a vicenda.
The five year kids of kindergarten have listened to the stories proposed by teachers, related to fantastic stories set in our town and in neighboring towns. They enjoyed to browse the colorful books and to tell each other.

Gli alunni delle classi 1^ ascoltano le insegnanti e la nonna che leggono in aula , nel laboratorio di psicomotricità, nella sala teatro della scuola, racconti popolari e leggende che spiegano l’origine di alcune tradizioni natalizie del nostro paese: Noicattaro.
Le autrici dei libri sono insegnanti di scuola primaria: Rita Tagarelli e Annamaria Latrofa.
The pupils of 1^ grade listen to teachers or grandmother who read tales and legends about the origin of some Christmas traditions of our town Noicattaro. They read books in classroom, in the theatre hall, in little gym.
The authors of books are primary school teachers : Rita Tagarelli and Anna M. Latrofa.

ACCORDING TO THE POPULAR VIEW, THE SANTA CLAUS MYTH OWES ITS ORIGIN TO SAINT NICHOLAS ARCHBISHOP OF MYRA IN ASIA MINOR , NOW TURKEY. SANTA CLAUS AND SAINT NICHOLAS ARE THE CHARACTERS WHO BRING CHILDREN GIFTS IF THEY HAVE BEHAVED WELL.

Gli alunni della classe terza nel Palazzo della Cultura hanno letto la leggenda sulla fondazione e l’origine del nome del nostro paese Noicattaro, attraverso lo studio fatto dal nostro concittadino Giacomo Settanni. Gli antichi abitanti di Noja, in seguito alla distruzione del loro villaggio si trasferirono sulla sponda opposta dell’Adriatico, fondando Cattaro, l’odierna Kotor. In ricordo di quell’evento nel 19° sec. I due nomi si fusero.
The pupils of class 3^ read, in the Building of Culture, the legend about the foundation and the origin of the name of our town Noicattaro from the studies of our fellow-citizen Giacomo Settanni. Some ancient inhabitants of Noja, after the destruction of their village, moved to opposite shore of Adriatic sea and founded Cattaro, the modern Kotor. In memory of that event in the 19th
century the two names merged.

DELLA MERLA
A Milano viveva una famiglia di merli bianchi. Ci fu un inverno molto freddo e la neve ricoprì tutto. Papà merlo ,allora, spostò il nido in un comignolo per mettere al riparo la sua famiglia; poi partì alla ricerca di cibo. Quando tornò scoprì che le piume di mamma merla e dei suoi piccoli erano diventati nere per il fumo. Da quel giorno tutti i merli sono neri e il 29, 30 e 31 gennaio, i giorni più freddi dell’anno, vengono detti «I giorni della merla».

A family of white blackbirds lived in Milan. There was a very cold winter and the snow covered everything. Dad blackbird, then, moved the nest in a chimney to put away his family; then he fly away to search some food. When he returned he discovered that the blackbirds feathers had turned black from the smoke. From that day all the blackbirds are blacks and 29,30 and 31 January, the coldest days of the year, are called "The days of the blackbird".
10. La leggenda del ratto delle Sabine
Romolo, dopo aver fondato la città di Roma, cercò di popolarla e perciò accolse i pastori dei villaggi vicini. A Roma, però, mancavano le donne. Romolo pensò allora di organizzare una festa alla quale invitò i Sabini con le loro mogli e figlie. Durante la festa, mentre i Sabini cantavano e ballavano, a un preciso segnale i giovani romani rapirono le donne sabine e misero in fuga i loro uomini.
Romulus, after founding the city of Rome, tried to populate it and therefore welcomed the shepherds from nearby villages. But in Rome there were no women. Romulus then thought to have a party to which he invited the Sabinians with their wives and daughters. During the party, while the Sabinians were playing and dancing, on a clear signal the young Romans abducted the Sabinian women and they drove the men away.
