Welcome to Week 5 of Term 4 2018. 2019 Arrangements Today I met with all class parents to discuss the decisions that are being made for 2019. Thank you to everyone for attending. In 2019 as a result of the building program I will be relocating Year 1 students to the Kingslangley Road Campus. They will join Year 2 as Stage 1. This is exciting as both Years 1&2 are part of Stage 1 learning programs and being located together it will provide the students with wonderful learning opportunities. A transition program has been put in place for both Years 1 & 2 over the next few weeks. If you have any questions or concerns I am happy to meet with you at any time to discuss the logistics with you. Building Update. The build is finally here and getting ready to start and building preparation works have commenced. The final plans are being completed and our design is very exciting. You will notice that signs have been erected on the entrance points on Greenwich Road and River Road. Over the next week fencing will be erected on both sites and you will notice that parts of the playground will be out of bounds for everyone. More specific details will be discussed at a short meeting tomorrow evening. It will be held from 6-6:30 pm in the hall on the Kingslangley Road campus. The school oval will not be available for community use from this week onwards. During the Christmas break we will have 4 additional demountables delivered and placed near the other ones on River Road. Student Leader Elections for 2019. Year 5 students are currently involved in the election of Student Leaders for 2019. I am looking forward to listening to their visions of Greenwich Public School for the upcoming year. School Spectacular 2019. The school spectacular excursion will be held on November 23 to Qudos Arena at Homebush. As we have ordered buses based on your request for drop off in the afternoon we won’t be able to make any changes to your arrangements on the day. Thank you for your understanding. Please see the final arrangements below. Principal’s Message Greenwich Public School

Student Leave As we approach the end of the year it is a timely reminder that you will need to apply for any holiday leave, over 5 days in length, during the school term. This is a simple process and forms are available through the front office. Approval usually occurs the same day as you lodge the forms. Thank you and have a wonderful week. Vicki McKenzie.

Only 1 week to go! Our Greenwich Public School

week, they attended their second Arena Choir

rehearsing at QUDOS all next Wednesday and

2018 Lower North Shore STEM Competition

5 students from Years 2 and 4 have entered the inaugural Lower North Shore STEM competition at SCEGGS Redlands on Wednesday 14 November. We wish Goldie M, Sean A, Carter C, George W and Annie S all the best.

These students have been working on a scientific investigation of their own choosing for a whole term now in their own time. They will communicate their findings to a panel of judges, scientists and members of the community and will be judged on their STEM reasoning and knowledge of their subjects. Thank you to Mrs Myers and Mrs Imlay for mentoring and bringing this initiative to Greenwich. Mrs Imlay also has a judging role to play.

STEMshare Community

In 2019, a new Science and Technology syllabus K-6 is to be implemented in NSW Primary Schools.

Whilst the Science strands remain the same, a new strand has been added called ‘Digital Technology’.In preparation for the implementation of the digital technology strand, Greenwich Public has been able to loan a STEMshare robotics kit from the STEMshare lending library for Term 4. Mrs Imlay and Mrs Tamborini attended a training

session on tablet robotics and currently students in Years 2 - 6 are participating in lessons coding either Ozobots, Makey-Makey, Lego Mindstorms or Micro:bits. It has been a steep learning curve for teachers. We thank our students for their patience and sharing their knowledge. We are all having lots of fun learning something new.

Hour of Code

Thank you to Miss Baker for organising Greenwich Public to participate in Hour of Code in the Week beginning 3rd December. Year 5 and 6 student mentors are now being trained by Miss Baker to help students and teachers in Years 2-6 be actively involved in this world wide initiative. For more information https://hourofcode.com/files/hoc-one-pager.pdf

This will take place in class time. There is no cost.
