Jesus Is Calling You – In today’s Gospel, Jesus calls for the blind man, Bartimaeus, that he might come to him and be healed. Saint Mark relates to us very vividly that Bartimaeus, “threw aside his cloak, sprang up, and came to Jesus,” and that his sight was restored because of his faith and trust in God. Of course, we see many instances in the Gospels of Jesus calling out to others. Often times he calls people to follow him, like those who would be his Apostles. At other times, like his encounter with

Zacchaeus, he calls out so that he might stay with Zacchaeus and be of support in his life. In the Church, we most likely think of calling as one’s vocation, listening for what purpose God has created us to know, love and serve him. Priests speak of their vocation, or calling, to holy orders and married couples talk of being called to love each other with a sacrificial, unbreakable, and unconditional love. And within the call of our vocation, the Lord time and again calls out to us to invite us to share our gifts and abilities in a variety of ways for the good of others and of the Church. As our On Mission for The Church Alive! journey continues forward we are all invited to listen for the Lord calling us by name and seeking new and vibrant ways to respond in faith and generosity. Visit onmissionchurchalive.org to learn more and to stay informed.

Friends, Father Alek and I are happy to be of service to you in “Grouping 210”. We have experienced warm welcomes at each of the churches where we have celebrated the Eucharist in the past weeks. We are truly grateful for that and look forward to meeting each of you. It is my plan, to make possible the “relationships” that we need to develop and grow in the coming years, to assign a priest to a church for the weekend. This will allow you to see and speak with us and offer us the chance to spend quality time with you. I was never too fond of the idea of dismissing the congregation and then running out the back door to race to the next Mass. The reception and support we are already experiencing with the many staff members across the parish boundaries

are also of immense help. I am presently meeting with pastoral councils and staff members according to their

specialties. Your patience with us during this time is appreciated. The endeavor that faces both the priests and you is

big. We will work together to make the future bright, as we respect the significance of the past in each of the parishes.

—Fr. Grecco

FROM THE ADMINISTRATOR OF GROUPING 210

Love is patient …. Love is kind …

Love is a whole host of things, according to 1 Corinthians 13, but it all begins with patience and kind

consideration.

“Patience is a virtue” – we’ve heard this all of our lives. And living a Christian life means living a

virtuous life, including the virtues of patience and kindness.

In Bishop Zubik’s October 19th letter to the faithful about the OMCA process, (printed in our October

21st bulletin), he reminded us that:

“…not everything will be perfect…We need to see the changes at hand as a way to accomplish

both a deeper relationship with Jesus and a closer relationship with each other. Changes are

difficult…there will be continued opportunities for people to come together in new ways and to

explore what it means to be a family of faith…”

What Bishop Zubik is saying about the OMCA process also applies to our relationships with all of the

people in our ‘family of faith’. As Bishop Robert Barron puts it: “To love Christ is to love the ones whom

Christ loves”; and that love is lived out in our patience and kindness towards one another, as we

broaden our shared life together.

Lord, help us to be better at exercising patience, kindness, and consideration with those with whom

we are not patient, kind, and considerate enough.

Help us to be better at loving those whom we don’t love enough.

During the coming months, as we learn to be a family together in Grouping 210,

help us to show these virtues in our loving welcome to one another.

MEMORIAL MASS

This Friday, November 2, at 7:00 p.m., will be our annual All Soul's Day Memorial Mass, a Mass of Remembrance for all of those who have gone before us. At this Mass we especially remember, by name, each of those buried from our parish in the past year. However, this Mass is a prayer of remembrance for ANYONE who has passed from death into life, and is meant for any of you who are grieving the loss of a loved one, whether during this past year or long ago, whether buried from our parish or not, whether a miscarriage

or lost to you in another way, whether you are related by blood or not related at all to the one you miss. If you are grieving the loss of someone special, please consider coming to pray with us, and having your personal offering at Mass be that of your loved one, and receive the gift of consolation available to you here. Let us all pray together for those who have preceded us in death. All are welcome. A light reception, in Holy Family Hall, follows the Mass.

IS BECOMING A CATHOLIC A SCARY THING? It could be! And it also could be quite a challenge! Did anyone ever dare you to reserve a place in the Rite of Christian Initiation process? And if they didn’t, they should have! This amazing experience can open a new world of adventure in the Catholic faith. One that gives you a real promise of everlasting life!!! It is for one who has never been baptized to come into a relationship with none other than Jesus, the Christ. It is also for those after being baptized did not have the opportunity to refresh their life in Jesus through Sacraments. Who wouldn’t want that, when it simply means stepping into the realm of happy surprises. Doors are open for those who want to confront this fear. Call the Office for Christian Initiation (412-276-1011 ext. 225) and begin arrangements.

LIVING ROOM CHURCH In His last prayer with His disciples before going to the garden, Jesus asks the Father to “sanctify them in truth; your word is truth.” God is always trying to bring us closer to Him, especially through Scripture. Grouping 210 is embracing that prayer with the formation of Living Room Churches! Living Room Church is a ministry devoted to getting to know God and each other through the New Testament. It’s not a class, not a lecture, but a place where people wanting to learn more can come together!

We have groups in the morning and evening every week day. We have afternoon groups throughout the week as well.

At St. Margaret’s, we have a group that’s going to be starting the Gospel according to St. Mark on October 31, at 10:00 a.m. and they’ll meet three Wednesdays a month for about 8 weeks. On Thursday morning, one of our wonderful deacons leads a group studying Romans. Saturday morning, we have a men’s fellowship group and a women’s fellowship group. Come encounter The Truth in one of our Living Room Churches. Contact Bonnie at 412-563-3189 ext. 224 or email [email protected] —Bonnie Pierce

P.S. Don’t forget about Fr. Robin’s Bible Study every Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. in Room 5 of the upper level of the Bayley Building! New members are welcome! There are also several opportunities for Faith Sharing on the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton campus. Check the weekly calendar for days and times! All are welcome from Grouping 210!

Small Group Bible studies are being offered for parishioners of Grouping 210. These will be a “mixed bunch” with people from each of the three churches within our grouping. Contact Bonnie for more information: 412-563-3189 ext. 224
