OUR REDEEMER LUTHERAN CHURCH NEWSLETTER November 2016 Pastor’s Letter November 2016 Reformation/All Saints’ Day/Thanksgiving Dear Brothers & Sisters in Christ, Give Thanks to the Lord for He is good, for His mercy endures forever. Psalm 136 So, we move into this season we call Thanksgiving - a time we, as a people of faith, remember how important it is to live as a thankful people, both in good times and difficult times. We are truly blessed and the none of us really live in any want. Yes, God’s mercy endures forever and mercy is one of the great theses of the Reformation. So, this October 31 - Reformation Day - we begin a year of commemoration of 500 years of God’s mercy. It has not always been easy, but now we are more at peace with brothers and sisters in Christ. There has been much discussion and prayer over the past 30 years between Lutheran and Roman Catholic Churches. So, on October 31 Pope Francis and leaders of the Lutheran World Federation will gather for prayers and pray for continued unity. Amen A Declaration is on the way: Church, Ministry, Eucharist, a pioneering Ecumenical document whose statements of agreements was overwhelmingly received at our 2016 ELCA Church wide Assembly and the 1999 Joint Declaration on the Doctrine of Justification. This is important and a blessing. On the local level, as we seek ways to cooperate and pray together with our local Roman Catholic parishes, we are already doing this. We have hosted local priests - Father Bob Hayden and Frank Nelson - at joint weddings and funerals. This is what our Lord prays for. As we celebrate All Saints’ Day & Sunday, we remember that we are all part of the communion of the Saints and I give thanks to the Lord for He is good and I know His mercy endures forever. I look forward to greeting you all at God’s holy table each and every Sunday. The Rev. Ronald M. DAY CARE GREETINGS

Twenty-four years. I have completedtwenty-four years of working here. That is morethan half my life! No wonder these halls are sofamiliar. So, why have I been here so long? Ilove the kids, their smiles, hugs, and laughter. Ilove being called "Miss Melissa." The yearsfrom zero to five are really the most fascinatingto witness. I am happy to be working in anenvironment that I can share my faith andcelebrate holidays. Families have trusted theirchildren with me and have made me feel part oftheirs, even becoming long time friends. Speaking of friends, I work with some amazingpeople too! I am also honored that some of mypast students have returned to share their loveand knowledge with our little ones, much like Idid with them many years ago. I am blessed! Thank you for this opportunity, this life. It canbe very busy and stressful, but it definitely hasit's rewards.

Our parents enjoyed our Open House night. We turn the tables on the parents and havethem make a project for their child! The Infantroom parents created bibs for their child to usewhile here at Day Care. The Toddler roomparents created photo family trees while thePre-K parents made photo displays as well. The children love to look at the photos duringthe day, introducing their families to theirfriends. It is a great home/school connection. We attended our first Chapel of the year withPastor. He introduced the theme of the year, "Iam God's Treasure, Jesus Treasures Me." Thechildren enjoy visiting God's House to singsongs and learn about God's Love. We hadour first Music Class with Dr. Pinto. We enjoythe songs and movement activities she shareswith us.

Then the children were excited to visit with farmanimals during our Fall Harvest Festival. Theywere able to see and pet rabbits and chickensand feed lambs and goats. We also hadgames, "Ghost Drop" "Spider Toss", and "Ringthat Hat!" The children were able to go to thefeely table and find spiders and stickers among

spider webs and paper shreds. At the end theypicked a pumpkin to bring home. Everyone hada great time in the beautiful fall weather!

Our Yoga class with Miss Chris this month hada Halloween theme. She read a greatHalloween book and added poses into thestory. We love our Yoga class and Miss Chris!

At the end of the month we will have ourHalloween Parade and Party, always a favoriteevent here. Then, much like the stores, we willquickly switch gears, smiling for our Christmasphotos and preparing for Thanksgiving. HappyThanksgiving to all of you. Until next month, enjoy the beauty of fall.

Fondly,Melissa Bires-McGee

NURSERY NEWS NOVEMBER2016

Our school year is in full swing. During ourfirst chapel visit with Pastor, the childrenlearned about the different things they seein the church. The cross, baptismal font, altar, pews, paintings as well as thebeautiful stained glass window wereobserved by the children. Wearing apirate's hat, and with a treasure chest athand, Pastor also discussed our spiritualtheme, I am God's Treasure, JesusTreasures Me! As the children left chapel, Igave them a sticker, telling them, "Jesustreasures you!" They were so excited! Thechildren really do enjoy chapel, music, yoga, science, and Bible Fun. Theseprograms continue to thrive thanks to theparents' support of our fund raisers.

November is the time when we arereminded about all of the things we arethankful for. Personally, I am thankful formy family and friends, especially myhusband, Anthony and my sons, Matthew, age 14 and James, age 11. Professionally,I am most grateful for the wonderfulstudents, staff, and families here at Our Redeemer Nursery School.

The academic and spiritual year is wellunderway and we are busy teaching thechildren their A,B,C's, 1,2,3's and the GoodNews of Jesus Christ. I am so blessed andthankful to work at a school where we areallowed to learn about Jesus! Our littleones will be photographed for schoolpicture day on November 14 & 15. We arealso holding a Prestige Catalog Fund raiserSale to help support our music and yogaprograms as well as our All School Picnic atSeamans Neck Park in May.

As I reflect on the blessings in my life bothpersonally and professionally, the childrenhere at ORNS will learn to express theirthanks as well, while discovering thehistorical and spiritual meaning ofThanksgiving. This month, each child willbring a food offering into chapel. The threeand four year old classes will celebrateThanksgiving at our Pow-Wow Feast. During their monthly science classes, children will make butter the old fashionedway with Miss Chris. They will gatheraround a mock fire pit, sing songs, andenjoy a feast of applesauce, cornbread, crackers with homemade butter and applejuice.

November and December are very specialmonths at Our Redeemer Nursery School. It is such a joy to teach the children aboutthe holidays and traditions of our faith andour country. Wishing all of the members ofOur Redeemer Lutheran Church a veryHappy Thanksgiving!
