OUR REDEEMER LUTHERAN CHURCH NEWSLETTER JUNE, 2016 Pastor’s Letter June, 2016 PENTECOST Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Church is open on Sundays (and Saturday afternoons) this summer - the Pentecost Season!!! It’s open for business, but most importantly it’s open for worship!!! God takes no vacation. We may take a well needed vacation, but the Pentecost faith goes on! During Pentecost, the lessons focus on the teaching of Jesus. The color is green - the color of growth. So, it is the church’s intention that we all continue to grow in our faith and fellowship. If you travel places, go to worship at another one of our Lutheran parishes and bring us back a bulletin. We would like to see how other churches worship. Don’t forget to be good stewards of your time, talents and possessions! Your financial support during the summer months is very important! The bills still need to be paid and the Lord’s work still continues. And guess what?! A reminder!! We do have air conditioning in church. We have for some time now and it is very comfortable. The church is a cool place to be! I will be looking for you and happy to serve you at the Lord’s table. God Bless you all and a have a blessed summer! REMEMBER YOUR CHURCH WHILE YOU ARE ON VACATION!!

Vacation holidays are great!! We all need to get away to relax, rest, and renew our energies andcreativity. Please enjoy your vacation and do all you can to make it safe and refreshing.

Also, remember that the work of the church does not stop because we go on vacation. Your prayersand offerings make our ministry possible. Before you go, please bring your pledge up to date.

And.... then enjoy your time away with the knowledge that the work of the Lord through ourcongregation continues undiminished. You'll be glad you did!!!

DAY CARE NEWS JUNE 2016I

Family time is so special. I am takinga vacation with my family soon and Iwill be spending time with mynephews Connor and Breccan. Boutsof homesickness can make memiserable, but I am lucky that I alsohave a day care family. Some of mypast Pre-K students even work here. They have come full circle and are anaddition to my family, they, as all mypast students, are “my kids!” Pastorspoke of home and family in hissermon for our Go to Church Sunday. Our school is a home away from homefor our children. We know their historyand where they started. We arefamily!

Our current family of children enjoyedmaking Mother's Day gifts for theirmommies. Homemade gifts from littlepeople are just the best! TheToddlers and Pre-K enjoyed their last

Music Class of the year with Dr. Pinto. At Chapel Pastor taught us aboutPentecost, the Birthday of the Church. During Yoga Miss Chris lead usthrough poses associated with thebooks she read us.

We celebrated Teacher AppreciationDay with lunch. I would like to thankour teachers for all of their work. These early years are the foundationof a child's socialization andeducation. Our parents are able to goto work knowing that their happychildren are in a safe setting playingand learning with other children.

Our Infants are growing in leaps andbounds. They have a group of littlemovers that entertain the tiny ones.Pre-K and Toddlers are finishing thenumbers up to ten and are preparingfor our Graduation Program. It is a bigproject, but so worth the work! Thechildren have started to practice thesongs and make the decorations. Thetheme this year is a Luau. We aregoing to hula “our” way on June 24 !th

Fondly,

Melissa Bires-McGee

Mrs. Clark, Mrs.Jaeggli, Mrs. Kislow and Mrs. Sterling wererecognized for ten years of service and Mrs.Kennedy for five years of service and dedication toLutheran Education during the Lutheran School’sAssociation’s (LSA) annual board meeting andrecognition dinner. The festivities took place onMay 11 at LuHi.

On May 16, the Nursery School held a fund raisingsocial event at Zona Restaurant in MassapequaPark. Sip, Dine and Paint was lots of fun and agreat success! Present and past staff members, church members, parents, and their familiesattended this creative evening. We enjoyed goodfood, raffle prizes, and painted a beach scenecanvas. Thank you to all who attended. I willcertainly plan another paint night in the future.

At Our Redeemer Nursery School the end of theyear is upon us. Students are busy practicing theirsongs to present at the end of year ceremonies. The graduation gowns are being pressed for our 4year olds and decorations are being made. OurRedeemer’s own, Jackie Edwards, is also busyworking on a DVD photo montage of ourgraduating four year olds. This wonderful keepsakeDVD has photos, graphics and touching musicshowcasing our children and the events of theyear. Jackie’s dedication to this project is greatlyappreciated!

Along with this preparation, students will enjoy theirlast month of school playing on the playground, making crafts for Father’s Day, learning about FlagDay, and planning summer time fun.

It is always bittersweet to see our 4's move on toKindergarten and leave Our Redeemer behind. We will look forward to seeing our Learn & PlayGroup students and 3 year old students return inSeptember. Both groups will surely be a little moregrown-up and a lot more confident. However, before September arrives, many of our studentswill return for Summer Fun in July and August. Summer Fun is a fun-filled Five Week program forlittle ones ages 3 by December 1, 2016 - age 6. Ilook forward to the return of my special team ofSummer Fun teachers! Thank you to the Our Redeemer congregation foryour continued support of our faith-based nurseryschool. How rewarding it is for me to be a part ofthis special school! I hope to see many of you atthe Congregation Meeting on June 12. Wishing allof the members of Our Redeemer Church anenjoyable and relaxing summer!
