Our Program “Member Moments”

With all the recent growth in our Club, several Members have suggested

luncheon programs designed to promote greater fellowship and interaction.

“Member Moments” were a chance to do just that.

In a lightly attended meeting after the big fun of the Dice Tournament earlier

in the week, we spent a few moments on “business” by promoting Red Badge

holder Joe Villanueva to a Blue Badge. After that, Rotarians stood up and

shared some of their personal life stories, including when they joined Rotary and

who served as their sponsors. This exercise called on some people to step a little

outside their comfort zones and pick up a microphone, while others turned out to

be altogether too eager to have the chance to tell a story on themselves.

Marty Garozzo (2015) , Ron Chambers (1983),

David Kamminga (2009), Steve Lewis (2011) Ike

Parsons (1964) and Quirina Orozco (2016) all

shared stories. If you missed this meeting, you

missed these stories and the legendary story of how

the “Rotary Dome” stadium almost got built. Ask

about it at the next meeting.

(Membership Chair Tim Kwong delivers Joe’s new Blue

Badge)

2nd Notification.

John Hills, sponsored by Paul

Kolarik, has been approved for

Membership by the Executive

Committee of the Board. 3rd No-

tification.

(counterclockwise from top left) Marty Garozzo, Steve Lewis, Quirina

Orozco and Ike Parsons share “Member Moments” . Each one told a little bit

of their own story. Want to know what it was? Sit by them and ask them at the

next meeting.

Consensus from the room was that Ike’s Gangster Las Vegas story was the

most …. interesting. Andy Wallace was credited with the most Member spon-

sorships. Not pictured, but credited with their own Member Moments are Ron

Chambers, who brought us the Rotary Dome, and David Kamminga, who is

busy behind the camera at every meeting.

(top right) Elizabeth Esquivel brought exchange student Ellen Kohler to the

meeting. (bottom right) Tom Wallace gave us a “low and slow” opening song.
