Stephen Ministry: A Ministry of Christ caring for people through people. We have many needs for care in our congregation and community: people experiencing divorce, grief, an illness, loss of a job, relocation, an empty nest, retirement, hospitalization, loneliness, and many other stresses or challenges. Often people with needs suffer silently or do not request or receive the level of care they really need. It is almost impossible for the minister to care for a congregation of our size. Stephen Ministry expands the care HFUMC can offer. Stephen Ministers are trained in Christian Care and want to listen and care for others. If you would like to talk about having a Stephen Minister or know someone that could use one, please give us a call. All calls and information is completely confidential. December 25, 2016

Christmas Day

Announcements, Welcome & Opening Prayer

I want to walk as a child of the light. I want to follow Jesus.

God set the stars to give light to the world. The star of my life is Jesus.

In him there is no darkness at all. The night and day are both alike.

The Lamb is the light of the city of God. Shine in my heart, Lord Jesus.

Prelude And Lighting Of The Candles

Hymn of Praise UMH # 246

“Joy To The World ”

Lighting of the Advent Wreath

Leader: Unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given!

People: God has brought light into every darkness.

Leader: The promises of God are fulfilled! Wonderful Counselor! Mighty God!

People: We hear, even today, a chorus of angels bringing good news of great joy to

all the people.

Leader: We light the Candle of Christ — witness to the Savior who is Christ the Lord.

People: Glory to God in the highest Heaven, and on earth, peace among those

whom he favors.

Corporate Prayer for God’s Vision / Morning Prayer / The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come,

Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily

bread, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against

us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the

kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

Hymn of Dedication

“O Holy Night / Hallelujah”

O holy night, the stars are brightly shining It is the night of our dear Savior's birth

Long lay the world, in sin and error pining 'Til He appeared and the soul felt its worth

The thrill of hope the weary world rejoices And yonder breaks, a new and glorious morn

Fall on your knees, oh hear the angel voices O night divine, O night when Christ was born

O night divine, O night, O night divine

Truly He taught us to love one another His law, is love and His gospel is peace

Chains shall he break for the slave is our brother And in His name, all oppression shall cease

Sweet hymns of joy in greatful chorus raise we Let all within us praise His holy name

Christ is the Lord, and ever, ever, praise we His power and glory evermore proclaim

Fall on your knees, oh hear the angel voices O night divine, O night when Christ was born

Oh night, divine, oh night Oh night divine

Halleluiah, Halleluiah

Scripture

Galatians 4: 4a

When the right time came, God sent his Son, born of a woman …

Luke 2:15-20

15 When the angels had returned to heaven, the shepherds said to each other, “Let’s

go to Bethlehem! Let’s see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us

about.” 16 They hurried to the village and found Mary and Joseph. And there was the baby,

lying in the manger. 17 After seeing him, the shepherds told everyone what had

happened and what the angel had said to them about this child. 18 All who heard the

shepherds’ story were astonished, 19 but Mary kept all these things in her heart and

thought about them often. 20 The shepherds went back to their flocks, glorifying and

praising God for all they had heard and seen. It was just as the angel had told them.
