BIRTHDAY PARTY FOR MISSIONARY

ONE GREAT HOUR OF SHARING

One Great Hour of Sharing (OGHS) is one of the 6 Special Offering Sundays of the United Methodist Church. This special offering will be taken during the month of March.

The ONE GREAT HOUR OF SHARING Special Offering is designated in support of United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) administrative costs. UMCOR is the churches emergency response agency. OGHS offering enables UMCOR to spend less than 4% of its total budget on administrative costs. UMCOR receives no apportionment funds, so OGHS is needed in order to continue the disaster relief efforts around the world. UMCOR also operates 2 Emergency Preparedness Depots, one in Baldwin, Louisiana and one in Salt Lake City, Utah. This is where the various emergency kits are processed and assembled for distribution to wherever the next emergency disaster is happening. Please support One Great Hour of Sharing.

If you would be interested in participating in a work party to the Salt Lake City Depot, the Hope UMC in Rancho Bernardo is sponsoring a week trip beginning April 23. Contact

persons are Jim and Cindy Gleason at 619-813-1899 or jimcyn73@hotmail.com. They need

to know by February 1.

The Rev. Dr. Romy del Rosario is a United Methodist Missionary serving in Cambodia. National City First United Methodist Church has been in a “Covenant Relationship” with Rev. del Rosario for a number of years. This means that the Church “covenants / promises” to financially support the missionary program of the General Board of Global Ministries naming Rev. del Rosario as the Missionary we hold in Covenant. This means that in addition to the financial support, the church prays for Rev. del Rosario, we keep in touch with him throughout the year.

His birthday is January 7. So, this year it was decided that the whole church would celebrate his birthday on January 8th with a special offering and a special meal. All the funds raised will be applied toward our financial commitment to the Covenant Relation. The delicious meal was prepared by Lucita Alcantara and her “crew.” The dinner guests sang Happy Birthday to Romy under the enthusiastic leadership of Sonny Rabina. It was a fruitful day and everyone was enjoying the opportunity to celebrate. Thanks to everyone for supporting this event under the umbrella of the Mission Committee.

If you haven’t read it already, please read the letter Romy sent to be read at the party. The opportunity did not present itself, so it was printed on the front page of the

newsletter for all to read and enjoy. Remember, to keep Rev. del Rosario in prayer for his work in Cambodia.
