Active containers

Active containers are designed to keep the contents at a specific temperature during the entire journey, by actively heating or cooling the air inside.

These are recommended when maintaining a precise temperature is critical to the quality and integrity of the product.

We are approved to carry all CSafe and Envirotainer containers. Whilst we do not hold a stock of the containers, we can lease them on request, or you

can source them yourselves directly from the suppliers.

1 Changes/Cancellations ≥ 4 days before container release date

Changes to an order four (4) or more calendar days prior to the planned start of lease date are subject to a change order fee.

Changes include:

• Increase/Decrease to number of containers

• Change in container type

• Cancellation

Changes/Cancellations ≤ 3 days before container release date

Changes to an order three (3) or fewer calendar days prior to the planned start of lease date are subject to fees:

• Increase in number of containers is treated as an Express Order and is subject to the Express Order fee

• Decrease in number of containers is treated as a Cancellation and is subject to the Cancellation fee

• Change in container type is considered and an increase/decrease in number of containers ordered

• Change of return airport is subject to a Change Order fee

• Cancellation is subject to a Cancellation fee

Passive containers

Passive containers do not actively control temperature, but use phase change material/gel packs to effectively regulate the internal temperatures for

>120 hours. These are recommended for passive shipments, when temperature-controlled storage may not be available at all points along the supply

chain.

We are approved to carry the following passive containers:

• SkyCell 1500C/CRT

• SkyCell 2500C/CRT

• va-Q-tainer USx

• va-Q-tainer Eurox

• va-Q-tainer XLx

• va-Q-tainer Twinx

Please note all containers should be delivered to us pre-screened and security cleared.

We have partnered with SkyCell and approved their containers for carriage, whilst we do not hold a stock of these containers, we can arrange for

them to be leased on your behalf.

The original order may be postponed or changed once without charge. All other changes or cancellations to the original order are

subject to a cancellation fee.

Fast Ride Our guaranteed* express handling service for all your urgent shipments under 300kg.

The maximum weight per piece may not exceed 70kg and the maximum shipment weight is 300kg. When booking your freight, you

will receive a priority allocation on the requested flight, subject to availability. Once you receive your booking confirmation, we

guarantee to fly your shipment(s) as booked. .

The words ‘Fast Ride’ should be clearly visible on your MAWB.

Fast Ride only applies to shipments based on a Virgin Atlantic AWB prefixed with 932. Fast Ride is not suitable for AVI, DGR, HUM, VAL,

class rated items or liquids over 1 litre.

During office hours, we will aim to call you back within 2 hours of the actual time of departure in the event of an offload. Outside

normal office hours we will call you back in the morning of the next working day.

Must Ride Our guaranteed* service for all of your urgent shipments.

When booking your freight, you will receive a priority allocation on the requested flight, subject to availability. Once you receive your

Just Ride Just Ride offers value, great service and our famous reliability right across our ever expanding network of over 400 destinations

worldwide.

This great product offering can be tailored to fit your specific requirements, whether you are shipping general freight or something

more specialised.

VEX Our courier product for all your urgent airport to airport shipments.

You can benefit from a 90 minute close out for delivery and retrieval within 90 minutes* at destination. The maximum weight per

piece must not exceed 32kgs.

The VEX product is only accepted on a prepaid basis.

Pharmaceuticals and Life Sciences Offering you a range of solutions for your time and temperature sensitive pharma and life sciences shipments

Our Just Ride Pharma, Must Ride Pharma and Pharma Secure products are designed to support passively packaged shipments. Passive

packaging refers to specialised thermal packaging designed to minimise internal temperature fluctuations for limited periods of time,

through the use of phase change materials such as gel packs and dry ice in combination with insulated materials.

Temperature ranges cannot be guaranteed. However, at Virgin, we have developed Good Distribution Practices (GDP) compliant

processes, backed up wherever possible by specific infrastructure and trained personnel, to minimise risk and ensure that passively

packaged cargo is handled under conditions which will not compromise the ability of the packaging to safeguard the product within.

In order to remain compliant with GDP, all bookings must be requested using our online pharma booking request form, providing full

details of any temperature sensitivities and requesting temperature-controlled storage if required. Temperature controlled storage is

available on a first available basis.

Our customers must ensure shipments are packed in suitable and appropriate thermal packaging, and SHC codes ‘COL’ (keep cool) or

‘CRT’ (controlled room temperature) should be clearly visible on the MAWB.

Due to the nature of the goods we can only accept Pharma Secure shipments travelling on our online network.

Active is designed to support an unbroken cool chain for temperature sensitive cargo. We are approved to carry all CSafe and

Envirotainer container types, and our GDP compliant processes are backed up wherever possible by specific infrastructure and trained

personnel. This setup allows the goods inside the containers to travel in a constant temperature range throughout the entire journey with

us.

Whilst we do not hold a stock of the containers, we can lease them on your behalf, or you can source them yourselves directly from the

suppliers. All active ULDs should be delivered to us pre-screened and security cleared. For a full list of accepted containers/ destinations

please visit our website or, just ask when you contact us.

In order to remain compliant with Good Distribution Practices, all bookings must be requested using our online pharma booking

request form, providing full shipment details, including the container set point temperature and a 24-hour emergency contact.

Active containers must be delivered to us with the relevant documentation signifying airworthiness and with sufficient battery hours or dry

ice remaining for the shipment to reach its final destination. For heating/cooling containers, we will endeavour to plug them into A/C

power when in situ for extended periods of time.

While in our custody and care, the containers are handled according to tailor-made processes and within manufacturers’ guidelines,

including the regular monitoring of temperature and battery levels. The SHC code ‘ACT’ should be clearly visible on the MAWB.

Perishables Perishables can be defined as any cargo that is subject to decay or spoilage over time, or under certain climatic conditions.

Temperature ranges cannot be guaranteed. However, we have developed special processes for perishable shipments, backed up

wherever possible by specific infrastructure and trained personnel to minimise risk of spoilage.

For temperature sensitive perishable shipments, full details must be provided at the time of booking, notifying us of temperature sensitivities

and requesting cold storage if required. Cold storage is available on a first available basis.

Customers must ensure shipments are packed in suitable and appropriate packaging. For temperature sensitive perishable shipments,

SHC codes ‘COL’ (keep cool) or ‘CRT’ (controlled room temperature) should be clearly visible on the MAWB.





The small print

Rates are inclusive of fuel and security surcharges (also known as war risk), all other surcharges are excluded.

All cargo will be billed on Chargeable weight. Chargeable weight is whichever is the greater of the Actual Gross Weight or the

Volumetric Weight. Volumetric weight of the shipment must be calculated based on the following ratios: 6000 cubic cm per kg;

366 cubic inches per kg.

Rates are quoted in USD.

Dangerous goods rates are applicable to a Just Ride priority only. Must Ride priority may be available at an extra charge, please ask at time of

booking.

Dangerous goods class 9 are accepted at general cargo rates plus the applicable dangerous goods fee.

For dangerous goods classes 1-8, please consult the dangerous goods section. Dangerous goods class 7 will not be accepted for carriage,

apart from excepted packages: UN2908, UN2909, UN2910, UN2911, as per our operator variation VS-01.

Dry ice is accepted on our flights, please call for information.

The class, UN and net weight of the hazardous contents must be stated at time of booking.

Rates are valid from the specific gateway only. Additional gateways can be found in the ‘Additional in-forwarding’ section and are charged

according to that gateway.

Additional charges and fees may be applicable. Proof of delivery fee applicable if no discrepancy is noted, please contact us for more

information.

General cargo, DGR, DGR class 9 and dry ice shipments are subject to Virgin Atlantic Airways’ conditions of carriage and IATA

regulations.

Fast Ride bookings are accepted in some of our offline stations. If you are shipping to or from one of these stations, please note that not all

product features apply. Please speak to your Account Manager for more details on your Fast Ride product benefits.

Rates do not apply to restricted articles, outsized cargo, perishables, human remains, vehicles, and high value goods. Please contact

us for applicable rates.

Rates are subject to availability.

Rates may be subject to review on shipments with excessive volume.

Shipments may be liable to a weight/volume check on acceptance and charges may be levied. Virgin Atlantic Cargo cannot be held

responsible for any delays caused as a result.

Virgin Atlantic Cargo reserves the right to revise these rates without prior notification.

These rates replace all previously issued rates and are valid until further notice.

As a consequence of our transatlantic joint venture with Delta Air Lines and Air France KLM, we are cooperating both commercially and

operationally on flights between Europe (inc UK) and North America and Mexico.
