“We first started cruising with our first Nordhavn, a 62 about 10 years ago,” says Ken Williams. “My wife Roberta and I enjoyed the experience so much but decided we wanted even more room for added comfort and to extend our cruising plans for many more carefree years.” So the couple chose the similarly aft- pilothouse Nordhavn 68. “We cus- tomized much of our new 68,” said Ken. “Roberta enjoyed working with our designer, Scott Cole of Ardeo Design and we love the way Sans Souci turned out.” Not only prettier than they’d imagined, it ends up Sans Souci is way more efficient than the Williams’ thought she’d be. The boat was designed for a single 400 HP engine. I felt that for redundancy I would rather have twin 340 HP Luggers. What I have learned is that the boat will reach her displacement speed at just 1,350 RPM, using only 220 HP. For a 97-ton boat, she is unbelievably efficient” said Ken. Cruising plans include a circumnaviga- tion, which will add to the over 6,000 miles already under Sans Souci's keel courtesy of a trip from Seattle to Costa Rica earlier this year. They’ll start their global trek next summer departing Alaska, go across the Bering Sea, wind along the Aleutian Islands, continue over to Siberia, and finally head down to Japan.
