Question of the Week

To whom do I need to bring a special greeting of Christ’s peace, with the assurance of supportive friendship, this New Year’s Day?

Join us in exploring the baptismal liturgy. This call is symbolized richly by partici-pating in Living the Eucharist this Lenten Season. The first Sunday of each Lent begins with the account of Jesus` journey in the wilderness. The theme of Baptism runs through the final three weeks of Year “A” Lenten season. As we discover the gospel account of the woman at the well, the man born blind, and the raising of Lazarus all bear witness to Christ, who is the living water, the light of the world, and the resurrection and the life. On Sat-urday, January 14 2017 the prayer Cam-paign will begin. Each family is asked to take part in the Prayer campaign by recit-ing it together every day.

NM 6: 22-27; PS 67: 2-3, 5-6, 8; GAL 4: 4-7; LK 2: 16-21 The blessing included in the First Reading from the Book of Numbers is one with which most of us are familiar. “The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord let His face shine upon you, and be gracious to you…” In the Jewish culture this has been known for cen-turies as the Aaronic blessing as it was dic-tated by God Himself to Aaron. It is im-portant to note that it begins with “The Lord bless you.” All blessings come from God. One error we make is to conclude that bless-ings always mean happiness or security or prosperity. God knows what blessings we need, even if we do not. They key for us is to be grateful for whatever blessings we may have. That mind set is at the hub of steward-ship — knowing all blessings come from the Lord, and our need to be appreciative of them.
