If you, like me, are a white person living in America you have benefitted from a racist system. That may be an uncomfortable sentence for some of you. It s uncomfortable for me. But its not nearly as uncomfortable as doing nothing in the face of ongoing, sometimes horrifically fatal, racism and white supremacy. Anti-racism work needs to be done as individuals and communities. Pastor Michael, myself, and many other leaders in the Rocky Mountain Conference are making plans for continuing anti-racism training. Last Friday, UCB began a book group on The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness by Michelle Alexander. Well be reading a chapter a week and meeting virtually to discuss every Friday at noon until August 7, skipping this coming Friday July 3 for the holiday. I invite all of you to join us. Email the church [email protected] if youd like the Zoom link. Its a step in a much longer process. Were not alone in that process. We have each other. We are guided by our Creator. We are shown the path by our Brother Jesus. We are guided by the Holy Spirit. Together we work to make this world more like heaven where human divisions and racist systems are no more. Pastor Andi

Our Mission Statement

Black Lives Matter. That slogan has not only been trending on social media and displayed on the news for the past month, it has also been hanging in our sanctuary along with the phrases “I can’t breathe” and “respect existence or expect resistance.” As the news moves on, the need for anti-racism and anti-white supremacy work is still desperately needed in the country and in the church. If you, like me, are a white person living in America you have benefitted from a racist system. That may be an uncomfortable sentence for some of you. It’s uncomfortable for me. But it’s not nearly as uncomfortable as doing nothing in the face of ongoing, sometimes horrifically fatal, racism and white supremacy.

We’ll be reading a chapter a week and meeting virtually to discuss every Friday at noon until August 7, skipping this coming Friday July 3 for the holiday. I invite all of you to join us. Email the church [email protected] if you’d like the Zoom link.

It’s a step in a much longer process. We’re not alone in that process. We have each other. We are guided by our Creator. We are shown the path by our Brother Jesus. We are guided by the Holy Spirit. Together we work to make this world more like heaven

where human divisions and racist systems are no more.

The American Flag Joseph Rodman Drake

When freedom, from her mountain height Unfurled her standard to the air, She tore the azure robe of night And set the stars of glory there. She mingled with its gorgeous dyes The milky bal-dric of the skies, Then from his mansion in the sun She called her eagle-bearer down And gave into his mighty hand The sym-bol of her chosen land. Flag etiquette states: “When a flag is so worn it is no longer fit to serve as a symbol of our country, it should be destroyed by burning in a dignified manner.” Unfortunately the flag flying in our Peace Garden is badly frayed and faded. It must be retired. It will be given to Boy Scouts Troop 511 for proper disposal.

Broomfield FISH - July Shifts

Currently our FISH Marketplace is closed and we are giving families pre-made boxes, personal care items and perishables. Please sign-up for shifts that work best for you. If you are over the age of 64 OR have a compromised immune system OR are a member of a vulnerable population, we have been asked that you not volunteer. If you have not completed a FISH Volunteer Application, you will need to do so before volunteering. (Application can be completed when you arrive for your shift) You must be at least 16 years old to volunteer and a parent/guardian must sign your Volunteer Application if you are 16-17 years old.

As a Family Resource Center, our goal at FISH is to make sure that everyone has food to eat and a safe, stable home. During the COVID-19 pandemic, meeting residents’ basic human needs is more important than ever. We are seeing double the number of families come to FISH for help and are distributing 48% more food than last year. Please know that you have made a real difference in the lives of your neighbors.

Thank you so much for helping feed families and fuel hope in Broomfield! We cannot tell you how much we appreciate your participation in Neighbors Helping Neigh-bors supporting Carolyn Crouse and your generous do-nation of check #19916281 dated June 9, 2020 for $400.00 to Broomfield FISH. It means the world to us!

Loving God, we thank you — the true Father of our country — for the blessings of this land and the gifts of cultures around the world. Prompt us to strive for justice for all, at home and abroad. Remind us, in the words of the hymn, that “this is our Father's world” and that your goodness prevails. Amid tragedies and conflicts, guard us against despair. Help us focus on the kindness evident daily: from generous neighbors to con-scientious public servants (because most are). On Independence Day and every day, “O let [us] ne’er forget that though the wrong seems oft so strong, God is the Ruler yet.” Amen. —Sandy Hyland

+Christian Symbol+ Vine A vine symbolizes Christ, the foundation of life and nourishment of all people, who, in turn, are like branches. When separate from the vine, we branches can't survive — at least not spiritually. "Apart from me," says Jesus, "you can do noth-ing" (John 15:5, NIV). But as God the gardener tends this relationship, we branches grow strong-er and more mature in Jesus and alongside one another.

The Gathering Circle will meet on Sat. July 11th at 8:30 a.m. in the backyard of Kim Jones. As it stands now Kim will make the coffee again and we can “brown bag” our own food. The same distancing rules and masks on when we are not eating still apply.

As we get closer to the date, please check emails as things could change.

If you haven’t linked your card to the church, you need to do it NOW!
