our mission: MAKING NEW DISCIPLES FOR JESUS CHRIST AND NURTURING ALL DISCIPLES IN FAITH

JOIN US FOR WORSHIP!

Several weeks of taking reservations for worship, our general pattern has emerged.  As a whole, Trinity people seem cautious about returning to services in the sanctuary.  At this time, we believe it's unlikely that we will reach capacity at either service now that Easter has passed.  It's our continued hope that Dodge County COVID rates will decrease so we can increase our capacity when we reach Phase 3.   Please know that you will not need to make a reservation for worship services in May.  Please come into the sanctuary and choose where you will sit.  To continue to provide the safest environment we can for everyone here, please:

• Sit in the pews with tape on the back edge for the 8 AM service, and sit in the pews with no tape on the back edge for the 9:30 AM service.

• The CDC continues to recommend wearing masks at indoor gatherings until a higher rate of vaccination is reached in our county.  Because of this, we will continue to wear masks during our services.  Worship leaders remove masks when at a distance, to assist people who rely on lipreading for understanding the service.

• We will continue to share our services beyond our building to include more people in our worshipping community - by livestreaming, Facebook and radio!  Please let us know if you need more information about any of these ways to be part of the service.

Church Leadership Council will be working on continued changes in precautions and re-opening for the month of June. Watch our Facebook page for updates or call the church office if you have questions. 920-887-7211

Dear Friends,

It has been a joy and a privilege to serve in ministry here with all of you for just over four years.  You have blessed me by sharing words of encouragement, by supporting our ministry and by exploring your own gifts for ministry!  We've found our way through some challenges together: discerning we needed to sell two buildings, identifying needed updates to our church building - like replacing the boiler and freshening up program space, getting clarity on the church's financial position, and many of you discovering new gifts for ministry to one another and our community at large!  This past year of ministry during the pandemic has been a bigger challenge than any of us could have imagined; I'm so glad we're getting a glimpse of the other side of this challenge before we say good-bye to each other at the end of June.

Saying good-bye and making change are another challenge we face together. You have grown to be part of my heart during my time here, so moving will be painful.  I will miss each and everyone one of you, whether we have agreed or disagreed on matters of ministry, denominational issues or the politics of the day.  You have taught me a great deal, whether we agreed or disagreed. I thank you as I continue to learn from you even during these last months.

Next month will be a busy month of actually moving my household - as well as many special events in the life of the church.  It's also the month I am inviting Pastor Eric to greet you in the newsletter so you can get more acquainted with him before he arrives in July. I trust you will also share words of encouragement with him and support Trinity's ministry as it goes on into the future.  I will continue to hold you in my heart and in my prayers.

May God's peace surround you and your loved ones - and guide you throughout the time ahead.

Worship Notes

Worship By Phone with TrinityDue to low or no call volume over the last few weeks the decision has been made to cancel this option for listening to the worship service via phone.

Altar FlowersSponsoring altar flowers is a great way to celebrate special events, honor family members, and commemorate special birthdates and anniversaries.  It also adds beauty to our services whether in person or online (or both!).  Flowers are $40 per week. If you like, you can pick them up and enjoy them at home after the 9:30AM worship service concludes. To reserve your Sunday for flowers for worship, contact Janine at the church office!920-887-7211 or [email protected] We cannot wait to celebrate with you!

May 9 - Celebration of Giving CareOn Sunday, May 9, we will both honor mothers during our service - and celebrate all people who have nurtured others!  We have so many people in our midst who have offered day-to-day care, support and nurture to others when it was needed most.  We'll celebrate all the ways that care and caregivers make a difference in our lives during all times.

May 23 - Honoring Sunday School Teachers and Celebrating This Year’s ConfirmandsOn that 4th Sunday of May, we will honor all the people who have helped Sunday School happen throughout this past program year.

That same Sunday, we will also be confirming confirmation class members who have completed the program at a separate 11 AM service, as they will be inviting their extended families to celebrate with them. We will record that service and share parts of it with the rest of Trinity's worshipping community during the following Sundays services.

May 30 - Flowering the CrossOn the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend, we’ll remember loved ones who have died by placing flowers on a cross during a time of prayer and remembrance during our services in the sanctuary.  Please bring flowers in memory of loved ones you wish to

honor at that time. We’ll also have flowers available for anyone who forgets to bring them.  This is one way to honor loved ones this weekend, even if we live too far away to place flowers on their graves.

After that mornings' services have ended, we'll carry the cross outside to the prayer garden.  If you are part of our worshipping community online or through radio broadcasts, you are invited to stop by later that Sunday to add flowers to the cross as you take some time to remember loved ones.

Radio Broadcast SponsorshipAre you looking for a way to honor or remember a special person or an occasion in your life? Sponsoring the weekly Radio Broadcast is a great way to do this. Radio Broadcast sponsorship dates are available throughout the year. This is an outreach ministry of Trinity. With the generosity of an anonymous donor each week, the sponsorship of the radio broadcast is $50.  Contact the church office to schedule a date for sponsorship. 920-887-7211 Ext. 1000 or [email protected]

Service 'In Memory’ of People We've Lost During the PandemicOn Sunday, June 13, we'll share a special time of prayer to remember people who were part of Trinity's congregation and died in recent months.  In many cases, we were unable to celebrate the lives of those who died during the months of pandemic.  During both worship services that Sunday morning, we'll take time to lift up their names, share their photos and recognize those members and friends to honor and remember them.

You Are Invited to Sign the Bibles for Trinity’s High School Seniors! As June begins, we will recognize students connected with Trinity who are high school seniors this year.  It's a Trinity tradition that we present each senior with a Bible to support their next step on their journey of faith.  It's also a tradition to have members of the congregation write in those Bibles by providing a greeting, congratulations, your favorite Bible verse or words of wisdom to the students.  Bibles for the seniors will be in the the church library beginning May 9.  There will also be an online form you can use to convey your message to each of our students at  https://www.trinityumbd.org/graduates.cfm; we will be sure to include all the messages when we present the Bibles!  Online messages will need to be submitted by May 26. Please contact the church office if you have questions!Honoring high school seniors: Aidan Almeida, Logan Almeida, Emma Barnett, Jordan Drzonek, Ginger Hahn, Paige Hodgson, Alison Kuehn, Austin Lindegarde, Justin Mangan, Logan Powers, Alyssa Raley, Kelsey Saniter, Tommy Scholz, and Domanic Schultz.

Health and WellnessCaring for Others: AllergiesAs we come back into the building, we pick up some of our discussion where we left of trying to care for our common life together.  We will remind ourselves we have two 'scent free bathrooms' in the building.  Here's a 2017 message from Trustees about that:

Scent Free BathroomsAs we become more aware of the needs of the congregation, we now have two scent free bathrooms for those who are sensitive and or allergic to the smells of soaps and air fresheners  Both bathrooms are located in the lower level of the church in the education wing.  Please do not spray any perfume, deodorant, or body spray in those bathrooms.  We are looking at ways to make our buildings more welcoming to all.

Let's also acknowledge together that we can't possibly do everything that will care for everyone.  But if each of us is willing to listen and try to care for others with our choices, we will find our way to becoming a more caring community.

To help understand this better, here is one experience from people this affects:

I've had allergies for most of my life, and I take medicine daily to combat the symptoms. In January 2020, I started volunteering at Trinity Church and worked in the Volunteer Office on Monday mornings. The room is kept closed up during the week. There's a wall of shelving that was full of boxes of personal hygiene supplies. Upon working in this room, I immediately reacted (bad headache, runny nose, watery eyes, painful sinuses) to the strong scent that permeated the room. We tried working with the windows open (in January), and it did not help. I ended up having to work in a different room on Monday mornings which was very inconvenient, awkward, and really not a good practice. The decision was made to move the personal hygiene packages from the Volunteer Office. It still took a long time for that strong odor to go away. Sixteen months later, I can now work in the room comfortably on Monday mornings.  — Cindy Noe

Thank you to all our Easter Bunny Helpers, for your generous gifts of candy, key chains, plushies, baskets, chips, money and other great surprises. The volunteers were able to fill 1,660 plastic eggs, many of those were used for the

Easter egg hunt at Trinity. They also made 82 Easter baskets for Playground Movement,38 Easter baskets for some of our homebound members and 20 Easter goodie bags for the children of Head Start. You are all amazing people. Thank you so very much. Deb Paul 50+ Ministry Coordinator.

Thanks to all the people who made monetary donations toward the Easter flowers. The flowers made for a beautiful sanctuary on Easter Sunday. The flowers were then shared with Trinity’s homebound members and those staying at home members to brighten their Easter Sunday!!

Trinity Church’s Welcome StatementTrinity Church-United Methodist acknowledges God claims each and every person as a beloved child. No matter who you are, where you come from, how much you have, who you love, or how you identify, we welcome everyone who wishes to grow in their faith in Jesus Christ. Regardless of where you are in your life and faith journey, we invite you to join us as we strive to serve each and every person, practicing the same inclusive love and intentional hospitality God so freely gives to us. Trinity Church protects diversity in all its forms by focusing on God's grace being available to all and living out that grace through acts of love, mercy and justice. ALL are welcome at Trinity Church.
