History of Aegis Anesthesia Formerly North Texas Children’s Anesthesia Aegis Anesthesia, formerly North Texas Children's Anesthesia (NTCA), is a group of board-certified pediatric and general anesthesiologists that provide perioperative care for children and adults. Over the last 20 years, the founding partners of North Texas Children's Anesthesia responded to parent's request for specialized pediatric care by bringing pediatric anesthetic safety and quality standards to community healthcare facilities. In 2014, we created Aegis Anesthesia in response to the communities need for a group physicians with a scope of practice that included premature neonates to adult anesthesia services in the greater Dallas/Fort Worth area. How to Prepare Your Child for Anesthesia

Research shows that when parents and kids know what to expect, children have less anxiety, earlier discharge and require less postoperative pain medicine. Therefore, we have produced a video for parents and older children to view at anesthesiavideo.com.

Preparing for Anesthesia An anesthesiologist from Aegis Anesthesia will make every effort to call you the night before the procedure to discuss with you patient medical history and preparation for anesthesia. Please have the following information ready:

• Medical History and Recent Illnesses• Surgical History and Anesthesia Complications• Medications and Drug Allergies

Eating and Drinking Before Your Procedure Follow these eating and drinking guidelines carefully to avoid cancellation

Adults and Children Age > 6 years: 10 PM: No solid food or milk after 10 PM2 Hours: Clear Liquids are allowed until 2 hours prior to the scheduled procedure. (Water, apple juice, sports drinks)

Medications may be taken as prescribed with up to 30 ml (1 oz) of water one hour before the induction of anesthesia. Please stop taking herbal medications and diet drugs at least one week prior to surgery.

Inhalers and Nebulizers for asthma may be given as prescribed anytime prior to the scheduled procedure.

Patients with Seasonal Allergies should have the nasal decongestant Afrin® (Oxymetazoline) sprayed into each nostril the day before and the morning of the procedure.

Children Age ≤ 6 years 6 Hours: Solid Low-Fat Food is allowed until 6 hours prior to the scheduled procedure for children 6 years or younger. (Infant formulas, non-human (cow’s) milk, cereals, breads, fruit juice with pulp)4 Hours: Breast Milk is allowed until 4 hours prior to the scheduled procedure.2 Hours: Clear Liquids are allowed until 2 hours prior to the scheduled procedure. (Water, Pedialyte, apple juice, Gatorade, Popsicles)

We provide 24-hour pediatric and adult anesthesia for all inpatient, outpatient and emergency surgeries and procedures, at many major facilities throughout North Texas.

General Anesthesia - Adults and Children General anesthesiologists are trained in all areas of general perioperative anesethesia care for adults and children. They complete 4 years of training in anesthesiology after medical school.

Pediatric Anesthesia - Infants, Children and Adults Neonatal/Pediatric Anesthesiologists have an additional 1 year of subspecialty training in pediatric anesthesiology after 4 years of training in anesthesiology. This trainig prepares them for complex pediatric anesthesia cases such as neonatal, open heart, and craniofacial.

Office-Based Anesthesia Sedation Dentistry for Children Aegis pediatric anesthesiologists are the only board-certified pediatric anesthesia physicians in the metroplex that provide pediatric in-office dental sedation. We provide the highest level of care using our Mobile Pediatric Anesthesia Support Services.
