While me has passed quickly, things are anything bur normal. So much of what were used to has changed. I doubt that any of us could have predicted what weve seen hap- pen. And, I suspect were all wondering how life will unfold in the months ahead. As I thought about all this, I was reminded of Gods call on Abraham (at the me he was known as Abram). Gen 12:1 describes that call: Now the Lord said to Abram, "Go forth from your country, and from your relaves and from your father's house, to the land which I will show you; Not a lot of detail there. The book of Hebrews de- scribes it this way: Heb 11:8 “... he went out, not knowing where he was going. its the same for us today. While some things are familiar, we dont really know for sure where were headed. So how do we head out into the future when we dont know where were headed? Well, get a clue from what follows in Heb 11:9-10 By faith he lived as an alien in the land of promise, as in a foreign land, dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, fellow heirs of the same promise; for he was looking for the city which has founda- ons, whose architect and builder is God.Thats the same journey were on today. This isnt our permanent home ... but for the me being, this is where were living. So back to the queson: What should we do? As we read the New Testament, we can see that the first Chrisans felt much like we do. And they give us some important clues about living as strangers and aliens. Ive oſten preached about or referenced a text from the book of Acts. I ll repeat it here: Acts 2:42-47 - They were connually devong themselves to the apostles' teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone kept feeling a sense of awe; and many wonders and signs were taking place through the apostles. And all those who had believed were together and had all things in common; and they began selling their property and possessions and were sharing them with all, as anyone might have need. Day by day connu- ing with one mind in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they were taking their meals together with gladness and sincerity of heart, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord was adding to their number day by day those who were being saved. This text is at the heart of our mission statement: En- counter, Grow, Serve, Share. What were to do now is invest in our relaonship with God and our relaonships with each other. And in doing so, we will bless each other and influence our world. If you think about it, this has always been the task of Gods people. To that end, we recently kicked off a ministry weve called Acts 2. The intent is to help us met each others needs ... like the early church did. If youre not familiar with the Acts 2 Ministry, check out our website home page ... its at the boom of the tabs on the leſt side of the page. If you have a need, CLICK on the Request Assis- tance block. Well make sure that need is adversed (without names) to our membership. If you can meet an adversed need, CLICK on the Offer Assistance block. Our Acts 2 Team, Bobbie Bowling and Crystal Smith, will lead this process. I am so grateful for their willingness to serve. In addion, were going to connue supporng the Marshall County High School Youth Resource Center, Mar- shall Mission into the next year. Thank you for your generous support over the past year. I am convinced that as we take opportunies to be the people of God, we may not know exactly where were headed but we can be confident that were headed in the right direcon. It’s really hard to believe that it’s already August. While time has passed quickly, things are anything bur normal. So much of what we’re used to has changed. I doubt that any of us could have predicted what we’ve seen hap-pen. And, I suspect we’re all wondering how life will unfold in the months ahead.

As I thought about all this, I was reminded of God’s call on Abraham (at the time he was known as Abram). Gen 12:1 describes that call: Now the Lord said to Abram, "Go forth from your country, and from your relatives and from your father's house, to the land which I will show you;” Not a lot of detail there. The book of Hebrews de-scribes it this way: Heb 11:8 – “... he went out, not knowing where he was going.” it’s the same for us today. While some things are familiar, we don’t really know for sure where we’re headed.

So how do we head out into the future when we don’t know where we’re headed? Well, get a clue from what follows in Heb 11:9-10 – “By faith he lived as an alien in the land of promise, as in a foreign land, dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, fellow heirs of the same promise; for he was looking for the city which has founda-tions, whose architect and builder is God.” That’s the same journey we’re on today. This isn’t our permanent home ... but for the time being, this is where we’re living. So back to the question: What should we do?

As we read the New Testament, we can see that the first Christians felt much like we do. And they give us some important clues about living as strangers and aliens.

I’ve often preached about or referenced a text from the book of Acts. I’ll repeat it here: Acts 2:42-47 - They were continually devoting themselves to the apostles' teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone kept feeling a sense of awe; and many wonders and signs were taking place through the apostles. And all those who had believed were together and had all things in common; and they began selling their property and possessions and were sharing them with all, as anyone might have need. Day by day continu-ing with one mind in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they were taking their meals together with gladness and sincerity of heart, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord was adding to their number day by day those who were being saved. This text is at the heart of our mission statement: En-counter, Grow, Serve, Share. What we’re to do now is invest in our relationship with God and our relationships with each other. And in doing so, we will bless each other and influence our world. If you think about it, this has always been the task of God’s people.

To that end, we recently kicked off a ministry we’ve called Acts 2. The intent is to help us met each other’s needs ... like the early church did. If you’re not familiar with the Acts 2 Ministry, check out our website home page ... it’s at the bottom of the tabs on the left side of the page. If you have a need, CLICK on the Request Assis-tance block. We’ll make sure that need is advertised (without names) to our membership. If you can meet an advertised need, CLICK on the Offer Assistance block. Our Acts 2 Team, Bobbie Bowling and Crystal Smith, will lead this process. I am so grateful for their willingness to serve.

In addition, we’re going to continue supporting the Marshall County High School Youth Resource Center, Mar-shall Mission into the next year. Thank you for your generous support over the past year.

I am convinced that as we take opportunities to be the people of God, we may not know exactly where we’re headed but we can be confident that we’re headed in the right direction.

Thank you for making these difficult times such a blessing. I am proud and humbly grateful at the same time to be numbered among the people of FBC Calvert City, Kentucky. Together in Him, Pastor Jim
