Today is World Mission Sunday! In Scripture, we read that St. Paul asked the Gentile Churches to take up a collection to support the Church in Jerusalem. Now we are asked to reach out and support the young churches throughout our world. Your prayers and generous gifts to the Society for the Propagation of the Faith in the collection today will help missionaries offer the poor of these areas practical help as they share the mercy of God. It will ensure the development of local dioceses, and support the work of priests, religious and lay leaders who serve in those on the margins and in most need. Go out to the whole world through your gift in today’s collection!

The Sanctuary Candle will burn in memory ofJohn Stupi

andthe Our Lady of Grace Candle will burn in memory of

October 18th Mark 10:35-45“Advice” books abound on marriage and parenting. Jesus tells us in today’s gospel the real secret: satisfying relationships depend on how well we sacrifice our needs to serve others. It is not about “getting,” it’s about “giving” ourselves. If you feel like you are a servant to your children and spouse, then you are doing it right.

HOLY HOUR FOR VOCATIONS ~ A Holy Hour for Vocations will be held at our parish on Sunday, October 25 th at 4:00 PM. There are six seminarians sponsored by our Diocese. If they persevere (pray they do), two will be ordained to the priesthood in 2017, one priest in 2020, and one priest in 2021. It seems a long time in coming. Pray our priests stay healthy, happy, and holy. Pray more men will answer God’s call to the priesthood and religious life. Also, keep praying for an increase in vocations to the Permanent Diaconate. As priests decrease, we will rely on their help more and more.

RESPECT LIFE DINNER - The 27th Annual Respect Life Mass and Dinner will be held on Sunday, October 25th. Mass will be held at 4:00PM at St. Andrew Church, Johnstown with a Turkey Dinner to follow in the School Hall at 5:30PM. Tickets for the Turkey Dinner can be purchased for $10 at the St. Andrew’s rectory or by contacting: Tom Deibert at 288-1113 or Earl Birch at 288-4972.

ALL SOULS’ DAY ~ November 2nd, All Souls’ Day, and in fact the entire month of November, have been designated by Catholics as a time of prayer for those who have died. The tradition of special remembrance of the dead is rooted in our belief that the dead will rise again and that all of us will be reunited in the Lord “so in Christ all will come to life again” (Cor. 15, 22). Father will remember at all Masses during the month of November family members, relatives and friends who have departed from this life. The names of these individuals should be listed on the envelope provided to you in the current packet of church envelopes and returned by October 31st.The envelopes will remain on the altar thru the month of November to remind us of the special intentions.

CELEBRATION OF NEW LIFE ~ A special service for families who suffered the loss of a loved one will be held on Wednesday, November 18th at the 6:30 p.m. Mass. Although all of the deceased are always remembered, we wish to recognize the families and their loved ones who have died since last October 31, 2014. A letter is being sent to the families with more information about this very special memorial service.

The church was badly in need of a coat of paint. So the pastor decided he'd do the job himself. But all he had was one bucket of paint. So he got a bunch of buckets and some water, and he thinned the paint enough to cover the entire church. Then he spent all day painting. That night it rained—very hard—and washed all the paint off. The pastor was quite discouraged and asked God, 'Why...why God, did you let it rain and wash off all my hard work?'      To which God thundered his reply, 'Repaint! Repaint! And thin no more!'

2017 ~ 100th ANNIVERSARY of FATIMA ~ Some time ago I thought of going back to Fatima, Portugal since I have not been there for many years. Then I thought what better time to make a visit than to celebrate Blessed Mary’s one hundredth anniversary to Fatima in 1917. Therefore, I am planning to go to Lourdes, France and then to Fatima, Portugal on October 7-15, 2017. NOTE: It is October 2017, not October 2016. The Pilgrimage is being planned by PROXIMO TRAVEL AGENCY. I am in contact with their representative from Perkasie, PA, Natalie Schmolk (215-530-7934). Several flyers regarding this trip are at the church entrances. Proximo Travel just advertised the many places to visit in the last

Catholic Register. Pray over the thought to come with me in October, 2017. I will be eager to hear from you who may be interested in going. This will be my one last time to go to Fatima.

On another note, recently, GOP Presidential Candidate Donald Trump vowed to take on the fight involving the war on Christians. During an interview on August 21st, he spoke out against the war on Christians and both at home and abroad. At home he focused on secular assaults on Christianity. He offered by way of example the war on Christmas. Abroad he focused on ISIS and their terror campaign against Christians. The Catholic League has stated that, although attacks on Christianity at home are still non-violent, they are genocidal overseas. We are pleased to see that Donald Trump has made the exact same argument and we hope to hear from the other presidential candidates on this important issue.

Over these next few weeks, students in each grade will pick a theme for their basket. Each class will also decide if they are collecting money or purchased items.
