Question of the Week Question for Children: How can you show that you honor Jesus as the king of your life?

Question for Adults: In what ways is Jesus the ruler of your life?

November 24 ~ Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe

On this last Sunday of the Liturgical Year we proclaim that Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, is King of the Uni-verse. What does this mean for you, an average person in the pew? Is Christ the king an image that you relate to? How else do you think about Jesus when you talk to him in prayer outside of church, or mention him in conversation? How often do you speak to others about his unconditional love, his strength when you are weak, and his comfort in your sadness and trials? More than ever, people need to know about Jesus Christ. If you don’t proclaim who Jesus is and what he does, who will?

For the past few weeks our students in Faith Formation have been working on their annual Thanksgiving service project, preparing boxes filled with food they have col-lected to provide a Thanksgiving dinner for needy fami-lies. This year there were requests from more than 80 families in need. Because of the generosity of the Saint Timothy community, families who otherwise would have gone without will now have a happy Thanksgiving.

Because of the scope of this project, there are many who deserve thanks: the students and families who decorated the boxes and filled them with the donated food; so many families and individuals who donated food and supermarket gift cards to purchase turkeys; the teachers and adults who assisted the students in this project; the volunteers who delivered the filled boxes; and the hard working parish staff who coordinated the project to completion. All deserve a big Thank You for a job well done.

The “Proclamation for a Day of Thanksgiving” in Mas-sachusetts in 1784 by John Hancock was to be a day “religiously observed” by the “Ministers and people of all denominations…to unite in Praises of Almighty GOD, of His great goodness…” Thanksgiving Day was always meant to be a religious celebration, a time and opportunity to give thanks to God in prayer for blessings received. As often happens, with time and distance we lose sight of the original intention and create our own version of the day.

Being with family and friends, sharing a nice meal to-gether, cheering on the local high school football teams, watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and lots of football games on television are all good things to do and share. But don’t forget to say a prayer of thanks to God for all the blessing received and the freedom that we enjoy to live, celebrate and worship as we choose.

On Thursday, Thanksgiving morning, I will celebrate the Eucharist at 9:00 AM for our community. The Eu-charist is our prayer of thanksgiving to God who never abandons his children. If you can, please join us. If you can’t, know that you and your loved ones will be in my prayers. From all of us on staff at Saint Timothy Parish, we wish you a happy and blessed Thanksgiving Day. May your travels be safe and the day be filled with love and joy. Fr. Petringa

Save the Date for our Annual Epiphany Celebration

SUNDAY, JANUARY 5th 4pm

We’re trying something DIFFERENT!

NEW DATE, NEW TIME!

We’ll have a relaxed dinner after the Pageant, instead of before! SAME GREAT EXPERIENCE BUT ON A SUNDAY AFTERNOON!

Save the Date: Advent Wreath-Making at St. Timothy’s — Sunday, December 1 after the 9:30 Mass

Advent is not that far around the corner! It begins on Sunday, December 1. During the season of Advent, one way that we mark the passage of the weeks is by the use of an Advent Wreath in our homes. Do you have an Advent Wreath in your home? If not, please join us on Sunday, December 1st after the 9:30 Mass, when we will be offering an Advent Wreath-making opportunity for any family or individual who would like to make a wreath for use in their own home. We will supply all the materials, including wreath forms, greens, candles, ribbon and decorations. Prayer sheets that can be used in conjunction with your family Advent Wreath will also be available. To offset the costs of materials, we do ask for a donation of $10.00. Mark the date on your calendar! We have materials for 50 families to make wreaths. Please sign up for one of the wreath-making kits by using this link to a Sign up Genius: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080C4DA9A622A3FF2-advent. Or you may call the office at 617-769-2522 and ask to have your name added to the list. We hope that many of you will join us!

In 2011, when the Church adopt-ed an updated English translation of the Mass, many of those re-sponses that were so familiar to us changed. As people who are formed by habit, it was a chal-lenge for many of us to respond ”and with your Spirit” instead of saying “and also with you.” To assist parishioners in familiariz-ing themselves with these new

responses and prayer translations, we placed Mass response cards in the pews, so that they were easily accessible during Mass. Over the past eight years, they have been replaced twice. Since they are well used, these cards are “worse for wear. ” After some consideration, we have decided to remove these cards from the pews permanently. Most people are quite familiar now with the new re-

sponses and prayers. In addition, our missalette publisher has wisely decided to put the text for these major prayers (the Penitential Act, the Gloria; the

Creed and the Invitation to Communion) on the in-side flap of the missalette. With this knowledge, we felt the cost of printing separate response cards was

not necessary. Therefore, beginning next weekend, to have those prayers close at hand, you need only pick up the missalette and open the front cover!
