Easter Sunday April 1st Masses 8:00, 9:30, and 11:00 am

From the Desk of Father Ed: Dear Parishioners, This weekend, the 5th Sunday of Lent we cover the Crucifix and statues in the church. This tradition, which is known as Passiontide, is a stark reminder that we are nearing the end of our Lenten Season and soon will be entering Holy Week. Our Gospel this weekend from St. John points to the nearness of Holy Week and especially to Jesus’ Passion. One of the main themes in his Gospel is Jesus’ Hour. The “Hour” refers to Jesus being raised up on the Cross, that is, His hour of Glory, when He is Glorified by the Father. The second meaning of His Hour, which is tied to Jesus’ Passion and the Last Supper is the “Liturgical Hour” where Jesus gives Himself to us in the Eucharist, the very sign of His new and everlasting covenant with us. The evangelist, St. John tells us that it was during the feast of the Passover that some Greeks or non-Jews were seeking to see Jesus. As soon as his two apostles, Philip and Andrew told Jesus that the Greeks were looking for Him, He responds, “The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. Amen, amen, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains just a grain of wheat; but if it dies, it produces much fruit.” Jesus, like the grain of wheat, died on the Cross for us. The fruit of Jesus’ Passion and death is that He has nailed sin and death to the Cross and defeated the “ruler of this world”, that is Satan and driven him out. He has opened the gates of heaven for us and given us a share in His life. The fruit that comes from the grain of wheat is bread. Jesus has given us His greatest gift...the gift of the Eucharist, the Bread of Life...the gift of His very self. When the Greeks or non-Jews sought out Jesus it was a sign that His Hour had arrived. Our veiling of the Crucifix and statues are signs that we are nearing Jesus’ Hour, that is, His Passion and the giving of His greatest gift the Eucharist; where He draws everyone to Himself. Parish Life: Special thanks to Father Anthony Mastroeni for presenting our Parish Lenten Mission on the theme of suffering. Our high school youth group, Catholic Teens will be having a St. Patrick’s Day Celebration this Sunday. Please invite your teens to join us for lots of food and fun. Our Parish Fundraising Committee will be organizing our Lenten, Friday Fish-Fry on March 23 from 4:00 - 7:00 pm. There will be an Easter Egg Hunt for our children on Saturday, March 24 at 10:45 am near the pavilion with refreshments. Our Lady Queen of Peace, pray for us, Father Ed, Pastor
