FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK

My Dear Parishioners: This is the bulle n le er for August 30th! The final Sunday in August! The beginning of the 22nd week in Ordinary Time! Both the first reading and the Gospel reveal the human imperfec ons in the people God chooses to be His prophets and disciples. Jeremiah was always looking for an excuse or a way out. But no ma er how he tried to avoid his prophe c mission, there it was, “burning in his heart” and he just could not ignore it! The same with Peter in the Gospel. Remember, last week, Jesus was honoring Peter, calling him the “Rock” upon which the Church will be built. Today, Jesus is rebuking him: “Get behind me Satan!”, because Peter cannot accept the fact that Jesus would have to suffer and die. Like Jeremiah and Peter, there are mes when we resist God’s call and try to find another way. But there is no other way! To follow Christ is not an easy path. Yet, it is the path that we have chosen. Paul, in the second reading, challenges the Romans (and us) “to discern what is the will of God, what is good, and pleasing and perfect”. Star ng tomorrow, the morning Mass will be open to worshippers. It will be at 8:30 from now on. You will s ll need to make a reserva on. The Mass with the school children will be on Monday and Friday. We need two of them per week to accommodate the COVID restric ons. The first one will be August. 31. We have added a second Sunday Mass in Spanish, at 2:00PM. Star ng next Saturday, September 5, we will resume the 5:00 PM Mass in English, with Confessions at 4:00 prior to the Mass. Star ng in September, we will be resuming the 6:00 PM Mass in Spanish. There will no longer be Holy Hour at 1:00 PM because of school. We will add a short Holy Hour a er some of the evening Masses, as well as Confessions. Just a reminder that reserva ons will have to be made for all of these celebra ons. Thanks for all who supported the Garage Sale. We made just shy of $3,000! Thanks to Jane e, Maria, Emma, Mariana and the rest of the team for your hard work on this! Krispy Kreme donut pick up is this Sunday. I know you had to order ahead, but there may be a few dozen available to purchase! We are s ll looking at a way to resume the Queen of Hearts in some sort of virtual way! We have completed our first full week of school! Praise God, things have started off smoothly! The year has a very different look to it, with lots of restric ons, but the kids are here, and they are learning! Let us con nue to pray for one another! Have a Blessed Week! Fr. Stan

NOTAS DEL PARROCO

TWENTY-SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

SLOWO PROBOSZCZA

Drodzy bracia parafianie: To jest biuletyn z 30 sierpnia! Ostatnia niedziela sierpnia! Ks. Stanisław

The Cross Of Jesus The percep on of a cross changed drama cally a er Jesus’ crucifixion. Before that event, death on a cross was not only horrible, it was degrading. It was a penalty reserved only for the most wretched of criminals. The word “glory” would not have found its way into the same sentence containing the word “cross.” But all that changed with Jesus. Over me, believers began to venerate and honor the cross. They painted, sculpted, and carved images of it. Many lost their own lives for their associa on with it. Today our reverence for and rela onship with the cross recalls li le of the contempt originally associated with it. As it has been through the ages, it is our percep on of the cross that determines how we follow Jesus.
