Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church 3710 Augusta Rd. † Greenville, SC 29605 May 7, 2017 Fourth Sunday of Easter Dear Brothers and Sisters, We have considered those who deny the Resurrection by suggesting it is just a nice made up story. Then we considered those who said Jesus didn’t really die on the cross--it was somebody else, or he just passed out and then came to again. All of these theories don’t hold water. This brings us to the next category of those who deny the Resurrection: Those who say that Jesus of Nazareth really did die, but something happened to his body and so his disciples started to believe what they wished was true: that their friend had risen from the dead. One scholar supposes that Jesus’ body disappeared because it was abandoned or hurriedly buried in a shallow grave and the dogs ate it. But we know that it was very important to the Jews to bury their dead respectfully, and we have the evidence that Jesus’ body was buried in a particular person’s tomb (who would have served as witness if it hadn’t happened that way). Furthermore, we have to remember that Jesus’ enemies were concerned that his disciples would steal the body so they demanded that a Roman guard be set up. If the body wasn’t buried why did they demand a guard at the tomb? Others say the disciples stole the body. For this to be true we have to believe that the twelve men who fled in terror and denied their friend (lest they too would be tortured and crucified) suddenly not only found their courage, but they got together, planned a heist, crept out at night, overpowered the Roman guards at the tomb, and stole the body away? Why would they have done this in the first place? Because they wanted to fake a resurrection? They were as surprised by the Resurrection as anyone else. The New Testament account is very clear. Here are people who are telling the truth, even about awkward facts not instantly advantageous to their claims. They genuinely believe Christ was risen, they do not come across as people who lie about a body that they know perfectly well was stolen or eaten by dogs. For the rest of their lives (right through to their torture and execution), the apostles behaved like men utterly convinced that they had met the Risen Christ. Alleluia! Christ is Risen! Dear Brothers and Sisters, We have considered those who deny the Resurrection by suggesting it is just a nice made up story. Then we considered those who said Jesus didn’t really die on the cross--it was somebody else, or he just passed out and then came to again. All of these theories don’t hold water. Spiritual Adoption and Feast of the Infant of Prague – The weekend of May 6/7 Our Lady of the Rosary families will have the opportunity to "spiritually" adopt a baby who is newly conceived. Not all newly conceived babies are allowed to be born. More than 3,000 babies lose their lives to abortion each day. It is these babies you are asked to "adopt." You may "adopt" a baby individually or as a family. You are asked to name the baby for whom you will be praying, thereby giving the baby the humanity he or she deserves. You are then asked to pray for your "spiritually adopted" unborn baby and for all unborn babies, for the power of prayer is great! You will receive weekly reports through the parish bulletin describing your baby's development; and your baby will be born around February 2nd, the feast of the Presentation of Our Lord. A Certificate of Adoption will be placed in The Book of Life at the Infant of Prague Shrine along with a beautiful illustration of the developing baby each month. There are millions of unborn babies desperately in need of your prayers. Won't you, please, "spiritually adopt" one of these unborn babies and share the love for life that God has given you? After all the Masses on Saturday and Sunday, members of the Respect Life Ministry will be outside the Church to sign up our “adoptive parents.” May 7th is the feast day of the Infant of Prague, the Patron of our Respect Life Ministry. Call Victoria Norris at 967-2713 or email [email protected].

The Spring Campaign of 40 Days for Life ended April 9, 2017 with much good fruit produced. On an international level, a total of 637 confirmed lives saved have been reported. Since launching in 2007, 154 workers have left the industry including 1 worker at Greenville Women's Clinic during this past campaign. A total of 85 abortion centers have closed their doors. A total of 5 lives were saved in Greenville that we know of. We can truly say that prayer and fasting is the answer. Thank you for your sacrifice and dedication. Even though 40 Days has passed, abortions continue to be performed daily at the Greenville women's Clinic. If you are able, select a day and time that works for you and continue with prayer at the abortion facility. We need sidewalk advocates and prayer there daily, beyond the 40 Days time frame. Already 2 more lives have been spared since the Closing – one on Good Friday and one on Holy Saturday! Please continue praying for the closure of the abortion mill on Grove Road. Thank you again for your commitment to life.
