PASTOR’S CORNER
POPE FRANCIS’ INTENTIONS FOR
January 2018
Religious Minorities in Asia
That Christians, and other religious minorities I
n Asian countries, may be able to practice their faith in
full freedom.
Happy New Year!! We are delighted to see you here at Our Lady of the
Mountains for holy Mass. Today we celebrate the Feast of the Epiphany.
The word “epiphany” means “appearance” or “manifestation”. What we
celebrate is that Christ is made manifest not only as the Messiah and King of
the Jews, but as the light to all nations, the salvation of all peoples.
Our Gospel for today is a familiar one: The story of the Magi, the Wise Men.
God is “made manifest”; He makes Himself known to them by the appearance
of a star. They follow that star and come to worship Christ in Bethlehem. Their
story is a remarkable journey of faith, and it is a journey that each one of us
will encounter in our own way as God is made manifest to us and calls us forth
to worship Him.
The Magi prostrated themselves before the Christ Child and gave Him rich
treasures, but Christ seeks something different from us. He seeks our hearts,
our lives, and our wills. Let us give to Him the gold of our hearts burning with
love of Him; let us offer Him the frankincense of our holy lives; and finally let
us offer Him the sweet myrrh of our tears of contrition and sorrow for our sins
and the sins of the world.
May God bless you and your family abundantly in the new year.

NEW ENTRANCE FOR
THE WINTER MONTHS
In response to the comments on the
recent parishioner survey (over 200
were completed!), we will be using the
doors to the Office Reception Area as
the ENTRANCE to the church,
beginning with the Christmas
Masses.
This will offer a more friendly space
to welcome parishioners and
visitors, it will remove the noise from
the back of the church, it will stop the
cold air blowing into the church as the
doors are opened and it will help
maintain the sacred space of the nave,
the main part of the church.
The brass doors will always open out
and can be used for exiting the church,
as well as exiting through the
Office Reception Area.
