Living God’s Word They say we learn more from example than we do from words. Today we are blessed to be going back to school with the very best of teachers, Jesus, who was the model “doer of the word” (James 1:22). If we want to know how to “do justice”, all we need to do is imitate our favorite teacher.

On September 9, the Church celebrates the feast of Blessed Frederic Ozanam, the founder of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. Frederic heard the call of Jesus to love and serve those who are suffering. And in the poor he found the face of

Christ. This month, through your gifts, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul was able to carry the mission of BI. Frederic Ozanam by assisting families, providing assistance in food, utility bills & other special needs. God Bless You!

2015 People with Intellectual Disabilities (PWID) (AKA Tootsie Roll Drive)

Dave Waldmann Chairman Gary Imdieke Co-Chairman Our great Nation will celebrate Columbus Day this year on Monday 12 October. Christopher Columbus the famous Italian explorer, navigator, and colonizer and is the namesake of the Knights of Columbus, the world’s largest fraternal service organization. The Knights of Columbus, founded by the Venerable Father Michael J. McGivney, in 1882, has developed into a premier organization dedicated to providing charitable service, promoting Catholic education and actively defending Catholicism in various nations. Today, Knights around the world continue to carry out Fr. McGivney’s mission. Columbus Day will culminate the 42st Annual PWID which was begun to raise funds to help children with mental retardation. Today the program serves all people with developmental disabilities. Special Olympics, Cochise County Association for the Handicapped and the Cochise Area Network of Therapeutic (CANTER) have benefited from your good works. The 2015 Drive will held September 27 & 28 at the Fry’s Food Store and Safeway Store; October 10-12 at the Kmart store and October 17 & 18 at OLM. Only you can make a difference for a successful drive and support to the local kids in need. Besides, it is a great heritage and a bunch of fun. Often, people tell us that a father, grandfather or some other family member was a Knight and how they remembered the delicious Tootsie Rolls since childhood even though they no longer eat candy.

DATES TO REMEMBER

September 6 No classes, Labor Day Holiday No Catholicism adult study There is still time to join the adult study; Catholicism with Father Robert Barrons. We meet Sunday mornings at 10:45 in the school music room and Wednesday evenings at 6:30 in the Bryerton Room. Grades 1-8 remember to start planning your Saint costume for our All Saints Celebration on November 1st. One saint idea: Saint Jerome (347-420) was a priest, confessor, theologian, and historian. He is most famous for translating the Bible into Latin. It took him 23 years to complete the translation. Jerome wrote, “Ignorance of the Bible is ignorance of Christ.” He is the patron saint of librarians and his feast day is September 30. I recently ran across an interesting thought in my readings. The subject was prayer but the author asked, “How much would you have if you woke up tomorrow morning with only the things you thanked God for today?” “A thorough knowledge of the Bible is worth more than a college education.” (Theodore Roosevelt)
