Preview of Next Sunday’s Readings Twentieth Sunday in Ordinary Time

August 20, 2017 First reading: Chronicles 15:3-4, 15-16;16:1-2 Second reading: Corinthians 15:54b-57 Gospel: Matthew Luke 11:27-28 A reading from the first Book of Chronicles David assembled all Israel in Jerusalem to bring the ark of the LORD to the place that he had prepared for it. David also called together the sons of Aaron and the Levites. The Levites bore the ark of God on their shoulders with poles, as M`oses had ordained according to the word of the LORD. David commanded the chiefs of the Levites to appoint their kinsmen as chanters, to play on musical instruments, harps, lyres, and cymbals, to make a loud sound of rejoicing. They brought in the ark of God and set it within the tent which David had pitched for it. Then they offered up burnt offerings and peace offerings to God. When David had finished offering up the burnt offerings and peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the LORD. A reading from the Letter of Saint Paul to the Corinthians Brothers and sisters: When that which is mortal clothes itself with immortality, then the word that is written shall come about: Death is swallowed up in victory. Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting? The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke While Jesus was speaking, a woman from the crowd called out and said to him, "Blessed is the womb that carried you and the breasts at which you nursed. "He replied, "Rather, blessed are those who hear the word of God and observe it."

A REMINDER ABOUT MODESTY As summer is quickly approaching, let us keep in mind to dress appropriately and modestly, when coming to church. As Christians, it is our duty to be an example for others not only in what we wear to church, but also in the manner we conduct ourselves at Holy Mass. Please refrain from chewing gum when in Church. Thank you for your cooperation.

Religious Education Office August 13, 2017 Sunday’s Gospel, Matthew 14:22-33. Reflecting in God’s Word Parents certainly know there are many stormy times in trying to raise children. As we fall into bed exhausted at night, we may realize that we focused on the storms instead of Jesus' loving presence. Take a few minutes today to think about where Jesus tired to break in. Bringing the Gospel Into your Family Make a conscious effort to avoid distractions sometime this week. Pick a time when you can all be together in a peaceful setting, maybe a walk or a hike, a picnic or watch a sunset. In your time together share the "'storms" you faced this week and offer one another a peaceful gesture or words of support. Question of the Week Children: What helps you keep trying even when you are afraid? Adults: When have you doubted God's loving care for you? Pregunta de la semana Niños: ¿Que te ayuda a seguir intentando, incluso cuando tienes miedo? Adultos: ¿Cuando had dudado del cuidado amoroso de Dios para ti?

Registration for Year 1 and Year 2 has begun. We will have registration on Sunday, August 13th and Sunday August 20th after all morning Masses in the patio area. For questions, please email [email protected] Or contact Roy Ramirez at 562-879-9478.

DID YOU KNOW?

Talk to your teens about dating High school may be a time when teenagers begin to think about dating, making communication between teens and their parents even more important. Consider having an open, honest conversation with your teen about dating and appropriate relationships. Talk about what they want out of a relationship, and what their values are. Make sure they know how to communicate what they feel comfortable with, and what makes them uncomfortable. Talk with them about Catholic morals, and make sure they know you are always available. To request a copy of the VIRTUS® article “Talking with Your Teen about Dating Safety” email [email protected] or call (213) 637-7227.
