Scripture:“I myself am convinced about you, my brothers, that youyourselves are full of goodness,* filled with all knowledge, and able to admonish one another.” Rom 15:14

Holy Souls Church offers Adoration of the BlessedSacrament on Wednesdays from 9:00am till 5:15pm.Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament is an opportunity topray before Jesus Christ in a more personal way. You cansit quietly and talk with Jesus or you can bring a book ofprayers and read; some books are provided. The importantthing is to come and be with Jesus. Your presence isrequested.

PLANNING YOUR VACATION?When scheduling your summer vacation, please rememberthat while you are relaxing and seeing new sights, HolySouls parish will still be open and serving parishioners.

“What do you possessthat you have not received? 1 Cor 4:7

This reading is not easy to understand unless we recall thecontext. The community at Corinth was made up mostly ofpagan converts who accepted Paul’s message offorgiveness through the death and resurrection of JesusChrist. Paul truly loved them but was upset by their tendencyto claim spiritual superiority. Whatever you possess, hereminds them, comes from God, not of your own doing, above all your spiritual gifts. We need to guard against thattendency. We hear people say, “I worked hard for what Ihave—don’t you forget it!” I always want to reply, “I’m sureyou have, but who gave you the mental capacity and healthand financial resources to accomplish your goals? God,your parents and other benefactors.” So the proper responseis gratitude, not boasting.

An excerpt from Living Faith

Gratitude is very important. Most of us are taught by ourparents to remember to thank someone when we receive agift. Some people still mail thank you notes. I struggle withgetting my grandchildren to write thank you notes; I doencourage them and in some cases write the note for themand all they have to do is sign it. My point is gratitude isimportant towards each other and most importantly towardour God. I know that I have been blessed with many things, and I also know that I don’t spend enough time in prayerthanking God for these things and people in my life. I amafraid that I spend more time in prayers of petition askingfor things I think I need rather than prayers of thanksgiving.Everything we have comes from God one way or the other.Let’s spend time every day thanking God for all that he hasgiven us and not taking him or his love for granted.
