A Note fromOur Music Director

First of all, let me say how pleased I am with thegracious reception I have received by the parish-ioners and staff. Thank you very much for your wel-come at my arrival. I do know that in the next few weekswe will still be in our “honeymoon” stage, both trying toget a sense of who, what, when, and how things aredone. Please feel free to contact me and let me knowhow I’m doing. I prefer direct communications rather thanhearing it from a “third party mediator”.

During Lent, our music will be toned down. “In Lent, musical instruments should be used only to support thesinging of the gathered assembly.” (From: Sing to theLord: Music in Divine Worship by the United StatesConference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB)”. Of course,we do not sing the Gloria and neither do we sing anyalleluias. Our Mass parts will change to the RomanMissal Chants and there will be no Opening or ClosingVoluntaries and more importantly no Closing Hymn, allowing the priests to recess in silence and forthe assembly to be in reflective meditation and prayerupon leaving the church. The exception to this will beLaetare Sunday (the fourth Sunday of Lent) when amore abundant use of musical instruments is appropri-ate . . . more about that Sunday in coming weeks.

Thank you again for your warm reception. I look for-ward to meeting more of you in the coming weeks.

Lynn

Understanding My Value ToMy Church Community

Laura Humphries, Parish Life Coordinator

God’s Goodness

The rich and the poor are alikein that the Lord made them all. Prv 22:2

Have you noticed that God doesn’t ask you to provethat you will put your salary to good use? Have younoticed that God doesn’t turn off your oxygen supplywhen you misuse his gifts? Aren’t you glad that Goddoesn’t give you only that which you remember to thankhim for?...God’s goodness is spurred by his nature, not by our worthiness.

Someone asked an associate of mine, “What biblicalprecedent do we have to help the poor who have nodesire to become Christians?” My friend respondedwith one word: “God.”

God does it daily, for millions of people.

An excerpt from Grace for the Moment by Max Lucado

A MARRIAGE ENCOUNTERAT HOLY SOULS

Holy Souls will host a Marriage Encounter weekend April12 & 13 here in our parish. Marriage Encounter ispresented under the auspices of the Office of FamilyLife of the Diocese of Little Rock.

This weekend retreat is designed specifically forMarriage Enrichment. This retreat is not for troubledmarriages. As marriages evolve over time, each requirescare and attention to grow and fulfillour lives with God’s plan for us. Theword “encounter” derives from aSpanish word meaning to “meetagain” or “to discover”. That is whatyou and your spouse will do on anEncounter weekend. The emphasis ofthe Marriage Encounter process is on personalreflection and communication between husband andwife. There is no sharing with other couples makingthe weekend. A team of married couples lead theweekend and share with you experiences from theirown lives. The couples from Holy Souls that will be activein this weekend retreat include Jim and RuthmaryGoodhart, KC and Michelle Krause, Vince and WendyFloriani, and Pete and Cindy Stabnick.

Registration forms are available at the church doors,in the church office, and on our website. For moreinformation, call Michelle & KC Krause at 663-4933.
