‘Jesus set before me the book of nature.’ St. Therese of Lisieux

Stewardship of CreationAs stewards of the earth, we are responsible for themanagement and care of the land and resources whichGod has entrusted to us. Since the earth’s resourceshave been created by God for the benefit of all, we are:to share the goods of the earth and to preserve andcare for the earth. This mandate is rooted in the Bible. In Genesis, the Jewish people were urged to “cultivateand care for God’s creation.”

More recently, the U.S. bishops, in their statementRenewing the Earth (November 14, 1991), urged peopleto care for God’s creation: “Stewardship implies that wemust both care for creation according to the standardsthat are not of our own making and at the same time beresourceful in finding ways to make the earth flourish.”The Vatican has also listed environmental pollutionamong a list of seven social sins. Dioceses across theUnited States are working to protect natural resources, reduce toxic emissions, conserve energy, and toencourage the cleanup of contaminated sites.

In Ireland, the government imposed a 15 cents tax perplastic bag to reduce its usage. In Korea, CardinalNicholas Cheong Jin-suk of Seoul has asked Catholicsto be more environmentally friendly. Groups such asthe Catholic Conservation Center urge people to be“stewards of a healthier and happier world.” Whateverbelongs to God belongs to all. An excerpt from The LittleBurgundy Book

Stewardship is so much more than money…we need totake care of all that God has entrusted to us.

In the month of February $2,787 was collected forthe Building Fund.

Building Fund Balance $203,000 Summer 2013 Projects $154,000 Projected Building Fund Balance $ 49,000

This projected balance would be below the desirableminimal balance of $50,000 that we would like to havein the bank to cover unforeseen building maintenanceexpenses. Remember the parish still needs to planfor the future projects to be completed by 2016; whichincludes the replacement of the remaining agedportion of the school roof, resurfacing the Parish Hallparking lot and retro-fitting campus lighting fixtures toaccommodate the new energy saving light bulbs foran estimated total of $142,000.

Your continued generously will insure the BuildingFund will keep up with the maintenance needs of ourparish.
