STEWARDSHIP REFLECTION FOR THE WEEK OF MAY 22 / REFLEXIÓN DE LA CORRESPONSABILIDAD PARA LA SEMANA DEL 22 DE MAY

Today we celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity. That means we are celebrating God on this holy day. In the Catholic Church a solemnity is the highest ranking holy day possible. The Most Holy Trinity is the central mystery of our Catholic faith. As Catholics we acknowledge the Holy Trinity when we arrive in a church, and several times during our liturgies as well as other times. Every time we make the sign of the cross, every time

we pray most likely, we are expressing our faith in the Trinity and our faith that the Trinity was revealed by Jesus on the Cross. One part of stewardship is knowing our traditions and the meanings behind them.Making the sign of the Cross should never be an empty gesture on our parts. Jesus told us that if we love Him, God (the Trinity) will come and dwell within us. More than once St. Paul reminds us that we are “temples of the living God.” God is within each and every one of us. Do we realize that? Do we live out that truth? Today’s feast confronts us to examine ourselves and our lives. As good stewards we need to live with the certainty that the Blessed Trinity is present in us. Then we need to reflect that presence.Pope Francis, in his homily on the Feast of the Holy Trinity in 2013, said, “In today’s feast we praise God for His glory is immense. We praise Him and thank Him for He is love, and He calls us to embrace Him and those around us with that love.”

Someone the other day asked me if I was Republican or Democrat. I answered, “I’m a Catholic.” I have to start from this point when con-sidering how to vote. Unfortunately, with our two party system, voting “Catholic’ is not always so easy. We always have to choose a candi-date that does not hold all of our values. We need a Catholic Party. We make up nearly 25% of the population. I never hear on the news programs, “Candidate X won’t win if he doesn’t get the Catholic vote.” You hear about the Hispanic vote, the Evangelical vote, the African American vote, the Women’s vote, but never the Catholic vote. One reason is because each party holds some of our values and we are free to choose between them, so in a way our vote is split. If we were to demand a politician that combined what we hold true, then maybe they would listen, but as long as we continue to accept choosing the lesser of two candidates, it will never change. We’re not asking for much: we believe that life is sacred and a gift from God from the moment of conception until a natural death; and we are asked to love God with all our heart, mind, and soul and to love our neighbor as ourselves. Most of all we value can be traced back to these two truths. Until such time, we still must participate in the process and make the best decisions possible.Thursday Night Confessions: May 26 (NO) June 2 (YES)God bless you all!Fr.

HOLY YEAR OF MERCY: MERCIFUL LIKE THE FATHER/AÑO SANTO DE LA MISERICORDIA: MISERICORDIOSOS COMO EL PADREPope Francis has asked us to be more merciful and to incor-porate the Corporal and Spiritual Acts of Mercy into our daily lives. During the year we will highlight the different acts and give concrete ideas on how to live them. Please visit www.usccb.org for more ideas.

THE 5TH SPIRITUAL ACT OF MERCY: FORGIVING INJURIESForgiving others is difficult at times because we do not have God’s limitless mercy and compassion.  But Jesus teaches us that we should forgive as God forgives, relying on him to help us show others the mercy of God

◆ Let go of grudges ◆ Saying sorry is something we learn as kids, but how often do

we really mean it? Forgiveness transforms hearts and lives ◆ Participate in the Sacrament of Penance ◆ Pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet
