Stewardship Thought For The Week

Jesus said "What do you want Me to do for you?" They answered Him, "Lord, let our eyes be opened."

Lord let my eyes be opened. These are the words of the two blind men to answer Jesus' question. These can be our words as well. We ask Jesus to open our eyes to His presence in the world around us, in our fellow brothers and sister. Open our eyes to the needs of our neighbor and move us to act on them. We cannot live as if we are an island unto ourselves. No, we belong to a larger communi-ty called humanity. We can only make this community better when we open our eyes to the heart of Jesus. ...Be a good steward!!!

In our reading from, the second Letter of Saint Paul to the Thessalonians we read: "But the Lord is faithful; he will, strengthen you and guard you from the evil one. With these words of encouragement St Paul teaches us that God is with us at all times. Therefore, we need. not fear we. need not cower in the dark. For Christ Jesus is our light. We can boldly go forward and give witness to His love and His salvation. We can open ourselves up to the Holy. Spirit knowing that He will give us the words and the courage to give testimony to the world of the goodness of God. And so I leave with the words of St Paul in his sec-ond Letter to the Thessalonians "May the Lord direct your hearts to the love of God and to the endurance of Christ."

En nuestra lectura de, la segunda carta de San Pablo a los tesalonicenses leemos: "Pero el Señor es fiel; él, te forta-lecerá y te protegerá del maligno. Con estas palabras de aliento san Pablo nos enseña que Dios está con nosotros en todo momento. Por lo tanto, necesitamos. no tememos que. no es necesario acobardarte en la oscuridad. Porque Cristo Jesús es nuestra luz. Podemos seguir adelante con valentía y dar testimonio de Su amor y Su salvación. Podemos abrirnos al Santo. Espíritu sabiendo que nos dará las palabras y el valor para dar testimonio al mundo de la bondad de Dios. Y así me voy con las palabras de san Pablo en su segunda carta a los tesalonicenses "Que el Señor dirija vuestros corazones al amor de Dios y a la resistencia de Cristo."

WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE READINGS

The readings follow a three-year cycle on Sundays and a two-year cycle on weekdays with the feast days being the exception. In this way over the course of three years we-cover most (ninety-five percent) of Sacred Scriptures in the Mass.

The first reading is always taken from the Old Testament (except during the Easter season when we read from the Acts of the Apostles and on some feast days) The first readings always relates to the Gospel reading for the day. The second readings always taken from one of the letters in the New Testament or from the Book of Revelation. The second reading does not correspond to the Gospel passage but, instead, is a continuation from the previous week's passage The Gospel passage is the most important reading because it is Jesus speaking to us through His words and actions. We sit during the first two readings, but we stand for the Gospel in acknowledgement that we are hearing the Good News of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

WHAT IS THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE RESPONSORIAL PSALM?

The Psalms were originally written as Jewish songs of prayer, praise, and petition. The early Christians sang Psalms when they broke bread and shared the cup in remembrance of Jesus. We have continued that tradition over the centuries. Today, the responsorial Psalm relates to the theme of the first reading and the Gospel.

LO QUE SE PREGUNTA SOBRE LA IGLESIA HOY

TITHING . . . is a practical and Scriptural way to put God first with your money. To tithe is to bring the first tenth of

your income to God (at your local church) and to have your whole family worship Him with it, and present it to Him. At this time, you make a tithing declaration that you are subject to the economy of God and not to the world's economy. You declare with your mouth that depression, inflation, poverty, lack, and debt have no power over you.

PRAY FOR PEACE: The horrible violence that continues in our society reminds of why we need peace. We need the violence to come to an end. I invite you to join me every Friday to take some

time and pray for peace. It does not have to be long whatev-er time you may have let us spend it in prayer for peace. You do not have to be in church, although the church is al-ways available to you, prayer can happen anywhere you are. Let us just do this and use this great tool that the Lord has given us and make our world a place of love and peace.

Recen Por La Paz: La horrible violencia que continúa en nuestra sociedanos d recuerda por qué necesitamos paz. Necesitamos que la violencia llegue a su fin. Los invito a unirse a mí todos los viernes para tomarse un tiempo y orar por la paz. No tiene que ser mucho tiempo, sea cual sea el tiempo que hayan dejado que lo pasemos en oración por la paz.
