Sunday Reflection

Today is Super Bowl Sunday and for millions of people it is a special day, even a sacred day. For the fans of the Atlanta Falcons or New England Patriots, this game is the culmination

of a season of hard work and dedication. For many others, it is about watching the best commercials out there or maybe even just the half-time show. But for me, it is about lighting the grill, putting out a nice spread of food and drinks and just enjoying each other’s company. To gather with family and friends, to share a meal together, to simply be in each other’s presence sharing stories, laughing, and joking around and just being with others is the best part of this day. It mirrors what Jesus did with his friends as they sat and ate and drank. It mirrors what we do every Sunday at mass, as we gather with one another in the presence of Christ to hear his voice. It mirrors what we are called to be as a Christian community united in faith, hope and love. I encourage us to see the good in opportunities like this – whether it is the World Cup, or a game of UCLA versus USC, or a night out at the Hollywood Bowl or Dodger Stadium, or gathering for the many celebrations we experience within our families. Use these occasions of fellowship and fun to lift you up and to unite you closer with one another.

Next week, Fr. Chris Felix, associate pastor of St. Anthony in San Gabriel, who was raised close by at Guardian Angel Parish in Pacoima, will be speaking to us about the importance of Together in Mission. Let us welcome him with an open heart and let us continue to pray about how we can support this annual campaign. If every person that walked into our Church on a weekend gave $20 towards this campaign, we could easily make our goal. That is $5 dollars every month for 4 months. Thank you for your continued generosity and support.

Our Lady of Peace… pray for us.

Upcoming Improvements. In the near future, we will be removing the carpeting of the sanctuary. The practical reason for this change is to allow for easier maintenance and cleaning. At the same time, although it is not expected, if even a drop of the Precious Blood is spilled on carpet, that piece must be cut out, removed and properly disposed. Our building fund goes to such projects and we will have our next second collection for this fund on January 29th. If you would like to donate specifically for this project, please contact Deacon Rey. Thank you for your generosity and ownership as we continue to care for our parish. -

Our Together in Mission Speaker

February 11th and 12th

Fr. Christopher Mario Felix

Fr. Christopher Felix was born in Mission Hills and lived his whole life in the San Fernando Valley. He attended Sylmar High School and then went on to Ave Maria University where he received his BA in Theology. His home parish is Guardian Angel, Pacoima (a recipient of Together in Mission) where he served and his family continues to do so today. He was ordained in priest in 2014 and currently serves at St. Anthony, San Gabriel. On becoming a priest, he said: “The Blessed Virgin Mary, the Trinity, the Eucharist and service are at the core of my priesthood. By Mary’s Fiat and example, I have a special Mother in heaven to intercede for me. Through her example of completely offering one’s life with a simple response, I am drawn into a personal and intimate relationship with the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, that is nourished by Word and Sacrament, in service of God’s people, the Church.”
