MASSES FOR THE WEEK FROM FATHER NICK…. Dear Parishioners of Our Lady of Peace, It was eleven years ago that Bishop Murphy sent me to take on doctoral studies at the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC. At that time, I was also look-ing for a “base” on Long Island where I could stay and help out with Masses and liturgies when I came home on school breaks. Father Bill graciously opened the door for me to stay at Our Lady of Peace those many years ago, and I have been a part of the OLP Family ever since. Now Bishop Bar-res has appointed me pastor of St. Christopher’s in Baldwin, and my time in Lynbrook is coming to an end. I wish to thank all of you for your friendship, your witness of faith, and your commitment to Our Lady of Peace Parish. You have been an inspiration and good companions on the journey of faith and life. Let us continue to pray for each other and may God bless you! —Fr. Nick Zientarski

READINGS FOR NEXT W EEKEND JULY 2, 2017

2 Kgs 4:8-11, 14-16a; Rom 6:3-4, 8-11; Mt. 10:37-42 Reflection Adults: While this Sunday Jesus emphasized His unwavering love for us, next Sunday Jesus speaks bluntly of what He expects from us as His children. Jesus wants us to prioritize and allow Him to be Our One True God. No one could or should come before our allegiance to God through Jesus. Jesus said to His apostles: “Whoever loves fa-ther or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me, and whoever loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me.” While some may think this a harsh direction, let us remember how much God loves every one of us. Would the all-loving God not want us to be present for our family members? When we put God first in our lives, God teaches us to love as He loves! What God does want is for us to understand He alone is our God. We are to look to Him first always and He will lead us in the best direction for all concerned. Children: Jesus wants us to put Him first in our lives. When we pray (listen and talk to God) and receive His most Holy Eucharist in Communion, we come closer to Jesus. Thank you Jesus for helping me love others. Amen.

RESPECT LIFE… Pope Francis—when asked by a reporter about abortion to

solve issues of hunger, poverty, over-population and abor-tion for handicaps, said, “We don’t believe in the death penalty. Why do you want to give the death penalty to the child?”

“God alone is the Lord of life from its beginning to its end; no one can, under any circumstance, claim for him-self the right directly to destroy an innocent human be-ing.” (Donum Vitae Intro 5, Congregation for the Doc-trine of Faith)
