The 4th grade students invited me to watch their Native American Indian presentations this week. The students have been studying Native American tribes as part of the Social Studies curriculum, and they have managed to incorporate the topic into their Library and Technology classes as well. In October, the students enriched their textbook knowledge by visiting Peace Valley Park where they had the opportunity to learn about the daily life of a Lenape Indian child. The students extended their knowledge when they began to research a tribe of their choice. The librarian encouraged the children to use the various library resources, including several book series, a set of Native American Encyclopedias, and other reference materials to begin the note-taking process. In technology, the children searched for special pictures such as costumes used for festivals and ritual dances. The students were finally ready to write, edit and type a short research paper about their tribe and prepare oral presentations. However, they couldn’t give the oral presentations without creating “costumes.” I happened to walk into one of the 4th grade classrooms one day when the children were just beginning the costumes. They eagerly held up the partially completed projects so that I could see what they would look like as members of their tribes. They were truly transformed into Native American Indian children by the time the presentations were ready. The children have learned so much this year, not only about Native American Indians, but how to integrate our technology, art, and library resources effectively to enhance their knowledge. Great job 4th grade! God bless, Dawn Parker

Rosary in the Prayer Garden

Join us on Saturday, March 21 at noon (rain or shine) in the Prayer Garden to pray the rosary. God’s marriage and the traditional family need our prayers. That is why you are invited to join our 2015 Rosary Rally for Traditional Marriage. In The Secret of the Rosary, St. Louis de Montfort said: “Public prayer is far more powerful than private prayer to appease the anger of God and call down His mercy, and Holy Mother Church, guided by the Holy Spirit, has always advocated public prayer in times of public tragedy and suffering”. To help or if you have any questions, call Kathy 215-348-4381.

33 Days to Morning Glory

Our Lady of Mount Carmel joins with fellow Catholics throughout the Archdiocese in a 6-week program of preparation for total consecration “to

Jesus through Mary” using Fr. Michael Gaitley’s retreat program. This is a great way to prepare for the historic visit of Pope Francis and reflect

on April’s World Meeting of Families monthly theme:

“All Love Bears Fruit” Mary our Blessed Mother is the one that helps us to become great saints and to bear much fruit!

Throughout the 33-day retreat program you will walk with the four great Marian saints: St. Louis de Montfort, St. Maximillian Kolbe, Blessed Mother Teresa and St. John Paul II. Each will help you come closer to Jesus and Mary and allow them to guide you in your life to find ways to love and serve God more deeply. While consecration can sound intimidating, St. John Paul II explained it as a “Marian Entrustment”...we ‘entrust’ ourselves totally to Mary so that she can bring us to her Son. OLMC Preparation Begins: The week of April 6, 2015 Consecration Day: May 13 - Feast of Our Lady of Fatima For those who want a group experience, there will be 6 weekly gatherings beginning Monday, April 6th in St. Mary’s Hall. Retreatants may choose to meet during the day from 11:30-1:00 or in the evening from 7:00-8:30. Other small groups may choose to meet at times convenient for them. The hour and one half group meeting will include: Opening prayer, 10 minute video overview from author Father Gaitley, small group guided discussion about the previous week’s readings and 30 minutes of DVD instruction by Fr. Michael Gaitley. Book: The Book is $2.00 Retreat Participant Companion Guide: is $15.00. This accompanies each chapter and is used for pondering privately and group discussions and is recommended to fully embrace the devotion experience.

Sign up weekend will be March 21-22nd after each Mass when you can order materials and ask

questions. For more information or to Sign-Up Now, please contact Julie Curtin
