The Mass is about to start. Please refrain from talking and turn off your cell phones.

This popular way of describing the universality of our Church is a theme of today’s readings. The prophet Isaiah tells of God’s servant who will be the “light of the nations.” It will not be enough for this servant only to bring back the survivors of Israel’s dispersion and captivity.

I will say this is the day

that the Lord has made,

I will rejoice for He has made me glad!

Page 14: Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church A Parish of The Roman Catholic Diocese of San Diego

in my thoughts and in my words, in what I have done

and in what I have failed to do,

therefore I ask blessed Mary ever-Virgin,

all the Angels and Saints, and you, my brothers and sisters,

to pray for me to the Lord our God.

Homily by:Our Most Reverend Bishop Chavez

Page 45: Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church A Parish of The Roman Catholic Diocese of San Diego
Page 46: Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church A Parish of The Roman Catholic Diocese of San Diego

I believe in one God, the Father almighty,

maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible.

I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God,

born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light,

true God from true God, begotten, not made

Page 47: Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church A Parish of The Roman Catholic Diocese of San Diego

consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation

he came down from heaven, and by the Holy Spirit

was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man.

Page 48: Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church A Parish of The Roman Catholic Diocese of San Diego

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate,

he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day

in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated

at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory

to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end.

Page 49: Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church A Parish of The Roman Catholic Diocese of San Diego

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son,

who with the Father and the Sonis adored and glorified,

who has spoken through the prophets.

Page 50: Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church A Parish of The Roman Catholic Diocese of San Diego

I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church.I confess one Baptism

for the forgiveness of sinsand I look forward to the resurrection

of the deadand the life of the world to come.

Amen
