Liturgy Notes In today’s Holy Gospel, we once again hear that familiar story of the Prodigal Son. In this parable, we hear echoing themes of recon-

ciliation, forgiveness and a fresh start in life.

The Responsorial Psalm this week has an almost “Lenten” theme, particularly in the first two verses. “Have mercy on me, O God”, “In

your compassion, wipe out my offense”,

“Wash me of my guilt, cleanse me from my sin”, “A clean heart create for me O God.” This Psalm (psalm 51:3) is always the appointed

Psalm for Ash Wednesday. It begs forgiveness, a complete inner

cleansing and offers to us the hope for a new beginning, or a fresh

start. This past Lent, we offered a new song, recently written by Jamie

Cortez in 2017, titled “Arrepientete” which simply translates to

“Repent”. This moving song will be used again this weekend at Holy Communion. While some of the verses clearly are “Ash Wednes-

day” themed, the middle verses are the most appropriate today,

(vs.2,3&4) This song “Repent” as well as “Amazing Grace” ties in well with the

message of the Psalm and the Gospel of the day. Being “blinded” by

important things that transpire in our daily lives is a common oc-

currence and easily over-looked. Once we have a so-called “awaking” or a “epiphany” (if you will), we see things the way God

would like us to see.

Renewed by the forgiving Spirit of Jesus, we exit with the hymn “The Spirit Sends Us Forth” which in its second verse, reminds us

that through our life in Christ, we can help ‘set the burdened free;

where hope is dim, to share a dream And help the blind to see.’

A recent study completed by the University of Notre Dame, McGrath Institute for Church Life," a Report on American Catho-lic Religious Parenting" by Justin Bartkus and Christian Smith, cited the following: "Of all actors, it is the parents who exert overwhelmingly the greatest influence upon the eventual reli-gious views and commitments of American children." Parents, this is your opportunity to share your faith. Co-teaching is always an option.. Contact Betsy Fitzsimons if you can help with instruction of our children. Many grades are available. Please consider joining our Religious Education Program. Sharing your faith with the youth of our parish can be very fulfilling.

A FAMILY PERSPECTIVE by Bud Ozar Parents are like that shepherd in today’s Gospel for they

don’t give up and can’t rest if one of their children has

wandered away. A parent’s persistent love provides a

glimpse of the unconditional love for each of us by God,

Our Father. A parent is a window to the Divine.

Vocation Reflections The Lord God gives sight to a blind person opens our ears that we may hear. Lord, what are you asking of me? How do you want me to serve you? If you are being called to serve as a priest or religious, call Father Michael Casey,
