PENTECOST SUNDAY Today we celebrate the Great Feast of Pentecost,
also referred to as the Birthday of the Church. This
now officially ends the Easter Season in the
Church. After the Eucharist today, the Paschal
Candle is placed in its proper place, which is by the Baptismal. As most know, the liturgical color of
Pentecost is red.
While we all have different forms of spiritual gifts,
we all share the same Spirit. The seven gifts of the
Spirit are included in the text to the Sequence, which today, is before the reading of the Holy Gos-
pel.
The prelude this weekend will be an improvisation
on the chant melody, (mode I) of Veni Sancte Spiri-tus. The Hymns and Anthems will also be in the
celebratory flavor of this grand feast. The beautiful chant from the Taize Community in
France will be sung at the 5 PM and the 11:30.
This is also called “Veni Sancte Spiritus” . The Latin
translates to ‘Come, O Holy Spirit, come. Fill the
hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the
fire of your love.’ ~ Raymond Murphy, Director of Music

Love and Protection of the Unborn The whole mission of the Catholic Church in the world—the theme and purpose and vocation of eve-ry institution and every Catholic individual—is love. Why does the Church set up hospitals and adoption
agencies and soup kitchens? Why have whole orders of nuns been founded to care for the elderly or the sick? Why did St. Damien offer to go to spend his last years serving in a leper colony in Ha-waii? Why did Mother Teresa establish homes for men dying of AIDs? It’s not for money. It’s not for recognition. It’s not a plan to in-crease our numbers and our social influence. It’s not even because the Church is committed to taking care of her own. It matters not at all to any of these institutions or individuals whether the people they’re serving are Catholic. They don’t have to be Catholic. They can even be anti-Catholic. We don’t do it for ourselves; we do it for love. We do it because we understand that each and every person is made in the image and likeness of God. Each, no matter how small or weak or wounded or messed up, is completely unique and infinitely precious. We understand that all human life ----including every child in the womb--is a gift to be received, cherished, and served, not abused,
not manipulated, not degraded, not destroyed . ~ PRO-LIFE
********************************************* 40 Days for Life Planning Meeting
Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at 7:00 PM at the Franciscan Life Center
275 Finch Avenue, Meriden, Connecticut
A Message from: Rev. Wilson Miscamble, C.S.C. Professor of History, University of Notre Dame
My new book is now available - "American Priest” The ambitious Life and conflicted Legacy of Notre Dame's
Fr. Ted Hesburgh
Considered for many decades to be the most influential priest in America, Rev. Theodore M. Hesburgh, played what many con-sider pivotal roles in higher education, the Catholic Church, and national and international affairs. “American Priest” examines his life and his many and varied engagements—from the univer-sity he led for thirty-five years to his associations with the Vati-can and the White House—and evaluates the extent and im-portance of his legacy. www:Amazon.com/American-Priest-Ambitious-conflicted-Hesburgh
Next Bus Trip to Goodspeed Thursday, August 22, 2019 Not since “Annie” has a stray dog inspired such joyful noise. In a Southern town filled with lost souls, a new lease on life is just around the corner when a preacher and his daughter take in a mutt named Winn Dixie. The beloved, award-winning novel about a quirky community learning to get along now sings for the first time in this uplifting new musical. Join us for this heartwarming adventure for all ages.
We will leave at 9:30 AM from the commuter parking lot in North Haven to give everyone one hour to walk around and visit all the little shops before lunch at The Griswold Inn (menu to follow) in Essex. Price will be $138 and includes bus, lunch and show ticket as well as all gratuities. Call Sue Ide at 203-530-4561 or Helen Palleria at 203-281-1221 to sign up.

A FAMILY PERSPECTIVE by Bud Ozar Today’s Gospel tells us God actually wants to take up resi-
dence in your family, “We will come and make our home
with you. Every family is called to be a tabernacle where
God dwells. Is Jesus a permanent member of your family
or a temporary guest ? Today the promise is given. The
choice is ours.
Eucharistic Adoration Monday mornings,
immediately following the 8:30 AM Mass
The Rosary…is prayed each morning, Monday-Saturday beginning at 8:10 AM at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church and on Wednesdays at 7:00 PM at St. Joan of Arc Church. “No one can live continually in sin and continue to say the Rosary: either they will give up sin or they will give up the Rosary" (Bishop Hugh Doyle)

Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful.
And kindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created.
And you will renew the face of the earth. Lord, by the light of the Holy Spirit
you have taught the hearts of your faithful. In the same Spirit help us to relish what is right
and always rejoice in your consolation. We ask this through Christ our Lord. ~ Amen.

Saint Augustine (354-430) created this poetic prayer to the Holy Spirit: Breathe in me, O Holy Spirit, That my thoughts may all be holy. Act in me, O Holy Spirit, That my work, too, may be holy. Draw my heart, O Holy Spirit, That I love but what is holy. Strengthen me, O Holy Spirit, To defend all that is holy. Guard me, then, O Holy Spirit, That I always may be holy. ~ Amen
