T. JAMES THE GREATER, APOSTLE, was the son of Zebedee and Salome, and brother of St. John the Evangelist. He was the first Apostle to receive the crown of martyrdom. Patron Saint of Spain, his name Santiago became a war cry in the fight against the Muslims. Anne

Catherine Emmerich had a vision of St. James, which she described in this way: “From Jerusalem, St. James went to Sicily and then to Spain, stopping in Cadiz for a while. He was not well received, and was saved from being murdered by an Angel. He left Spain to seven disciples. Later he returned to Saragoza, where a large number of conversions took place. AJESTIC QUEEN OF HEAVEN AND MISTRESS OF THE ANGELS, thou didst receive from God the power and commission to crush the head of Satan; wherefore we humbly beseech thee, send forth the legions of Heaven, that, under thy command, they may seek out all evil spirits,

engage them everywhere in battle, curb their insolence, and hurl them back into the pit of Hell. “Who is like unto God?” O good and tender Mother, thou shalt ever be our hope and the object of our love. O Mother of God, send forth the holy Angels to defend us and drive far from us the cruel foe. Holy Angels and Archangels, defend us and keep us. Amen.

To dress becomingly for God and neighbor, and in keeping with the reverence due to the Blessed Sacrament, kindly refrain from wearing shorts, tee-shirts, tank-tops, revealing blouses, sleeveless or backless dresses, or form-fitting clothing of any sort. Please do wear dresses and skirts that fall below the knee when seated. With due regard to time and circumstance, all are encouraged to wear decorous attire befitting sacred and divine worship.

If you need to do the Virtus Training Class, then please sign up for it. There is a sign up sheet in the social hall. Because of difficulties with scheduling, the Virtus training class will NOT be held at Our Lady of Lourdes. Instead, the class will be held at St. Agnes Church in Fort Wright on July 27th at 6 PM in Murphy Hall below the church itself.

Friar Anthony will be recounting his pilgrimage and journey to all the historical mission churches of California this coming Saturday, July 29, at 9 AM at the Parkland Theater in Cincinnati. Know that we will be having an additional Mass that Saturday morning at 6:30 AM for those who would like to attend Mass yet still have time to get to this important talk.

For those who have not registered for the parish, please consider doing so soon. Fr. Shannon is ordering envelopes. For those who have registered already, please let us know if there are any changes such as new addresses, phone numbers, or emails.

On Wednesday, August 2, Fr. Valentine, OFM, will be offering the 12:10 PM Mass at Our Lady of Lourdes. He will be offering Mass on that great Franciscan feast known as Our Lady of the Angels in connection with the wondrous Portiuncula plenary indulgence. After that Mass a mini-pilgrimage will be led by him and another priest to a Franciscan shrine in order to gain the indulgence.

On August 20, the parish will be consecrated to the Immaculate Heart of Mary after the 10 AM Mass. We will place ourselves in her pure Heart looking for wisdom and protection.

“… three steps to climb to go to God: the first, which is the nearest to us, and the most suited to our capacity, is Mary; the second is Jesus Christ; and the third is God the Father. To go to Jesus, we must go to Mary; she is our mediatrix of intercession”—St. Louis de Montfort

saw a heavenly splendor come over the Apostle. Angels, singing harmoniously, carried down a column of light whose base they set on the place in which a church should be built. The column was tall and elegantly narrow, ending in the shape of an open lily which sent sparks of light in many directions. One of them went to Compostela. In the splendor of the lily I saw the Most Holy Mary, transparent and white like snow, with a delicacy and beauty greater than silk. She was standing as she used to pray. Her hands were joined, and a long veil on her head fell to her feet, which lightly touched the lily that shone with five rays of light. This vision of Our Lady was the origin of the devotion to Our Lady of the Pillar. While the vision was taking place St. James received a message interiorly that he should build a church on that site, and that the devotion to Our Lady would be established there, take root, and expand. The Holy Virgin told him that once the church was built, he should return to Jerusalem. Indeed, later, when the work was completed, the Apostle left it in charge of twelve disciples he had formed and left. In Ephesus, he visited the Holy Virgin. Mary predicted his coming death, consoling and comforting him greatly. Then he said farewell to Our Lady and St. John, and left for Jerusalem. In that city he was taken by the Jews and brought to Mount Calvary. Along the way he continued to preach, converting and curing many. He was beheaded. Some time later, his body was brought to Spain.”—Fr. Shannon Collins, MSJB, Pastor.
