A Cluster of Roman Catholic Communities Our Mission: People of God, united in Christ, serving others, welcoming all to the Table of Life Our Lady of Lourdes † Saint Anne Sunday, June 14th, 2020 Dear Friends, When I watched the Governors coronavirus briefing this past Saturday I was pleasantly surprised when he announced that houses of worship may have services in regions which are in phase two of re-opening. Initially the limit will be 25% of the churchs capacity. I had expected that we would need to wait until phase four before we could have public Mass again. The fact that we can gather people for Mass now shows that all of our work on social distancing, frequent hand- washing, and wearing face masks is paying off. We will open both Our Lady of Lourdes and St. Anne churches for Mass on the weekend of 20/21 June. Deacon Bill Rabjohn, Konnie Collins and I have been working to source and purchase cleaning and disinfecting supplies, and to recruit volunteers so that we can clean and dis-infect our facilities after each Mass. We do not have everything in place to have Mass the weekend of 13/14 June. By the following week should have everything ready so that we can re-open safely. Concerning safety, if you are ill, please stay home. If you are fearful of contracting COVID -19, particularly because of factors such as age, compromised immune system, or living with someone who is vulnerable, please consider staying home. Bishop Matano has suspended the obligation to attend Sunday Mass until further notice. Mass of course will look a bit different. Some pews will be roped off so that people sit appropriately distanced from each other. We will all have to wear face masks. There will be no congregational and choral singing; only the cantor will sing. (This is because it has been found that singing expels many more droplets—which could contain the virus). We will wish each other peace without touching. There will be no altar servers and no procession with the gifts of bread and wine. This is to limit the number of people who are touching the gifts and items in the sanctuary. For the same reason we will not be passing the collection basket. Rather we will have a place where you can place your donation either as you enter or leave Mass. Continued on next pg... “… we arent used to thinking about Jesus as smiling, joyful. Dear Friends, When I watched the Governor’s coronavirus briefing this past Saturday I was pleasantly surprised when he announced that houses of worship may have services in regions which are in phase two of re-opening. Initially the limit will be 25% of the church’s capacity. I had expected that we would need to wait until phase four before we could have public Mass again. Communion will also be altered. Only the host will be offered; not the chalice. Again to limit the number of people who handle things, only the priest and deacon will distribute commun-ion. People are strongly discouraged from receiving communion on the tongue. This is because droplets of your breath fall on the fingers of the minister placing the host on your tongue. The droplets then get on the host given to the next person. If you happen to be infected with the virus, then the person behind you in line can be infected. If you wish to receive on the tongue, it is best to wait to the end of the communion line. When someone receives on the tongue, the priest or deacon will stop distributing communion until he has washed his hands or used hand sanitizer. Only then will he continue to distribute communion. The Sacrament of Reconciliation or confession will be offered on Saturday June 20th. In order to observe the proper distancing confessions will be heard at Our Lady of Lourdes in the St. Bernadette Chapel. At St. Anne confessions will be heard in meeting room 1. Again, people waiting for confession will be asked to stay six feet apart. Weekday Mass will resume at both churches on Monday June 15th. Weekday Mass will occur in the main church, rather than in the chapel, so that congregants will sit at least six feet from each other. Finally, a reminder about face masks. Everyone at Mass is required to wear a face mask. We have ordered a supply of masks for each church to be available for someone who may have forgotten to bring their mask. I urge you to bring your own face covering so that the parish does not incur a great expense of buying face masks for many people. We wear face masks in public so that we don’t inadvertently infect other people if we ourselves are infected but asymptomatic. Therefore anyone who refuses to cover their face will not be admitted into church. This is harsh, but it is for the protection of all the people present in church. I so look forward to seeing you again! Grace and peace, Fr. Gary Tyman 7 June 2020

NEEDED: LAWN MOWER FOR OUR LADY OF LOURDES

Santos diligently and faithfully maintains all the buildings and grounds for our Cluster. We are grateful for his work. Our lawnmower at OLOL continues to breakdown and parts are becoming obsolete. There comes a time when you must replace equipment and that time is now. Our budget doesn’t include the purchase of a lawnmower, so I’m reaching out to you asking if someone can donate a riding lawnmower. One of my father’s mantras was “A person is no better than their tools.” Let’s help Santos in gratitude for all his faithful work. Please contact Dcn. Bill or Santos if you have a lawnmower…or a means to get one. Thank you.

Reflections on Corpus Christi -Steve Witkowicz Visitation Minister

Corpus Christi--the Body of Christ. There is no memorial more uniquely

Catholic than this. Unlike other Christian denominations, our crosses bear a

body. Unlike other Christian communions, ours is real flesh. The Body of

Christ--the very life of our Faith.

In Faith Formation I tell the fourth graders that our Catholic Faith rests on

three pillars: the Incarnation, the Resurrection, and the Church; the three great

liturgical celebrations of Christmas, Easter, and Pentecost. And each, in a

particular way, is the Body of Christ.

In the Incarnation, the Second Person of the Blessed Trinity took on flesh so

that He could redeem us from sin. In doing so, He sacrificed His Body to

humiliation, torture, and death. In the Resurrection, the glorified Body of

Christ raised what was fallen to new life, and began the dispensation of grace

through the Sacraments.

As St. Paul famously remarked, the Church is the Body of Christ, in all it's

myriad members and rites, working to build God's kingdom on earth.

So the Body of Christ--Corpus Christi--is more than the Eucharist alone. If

the present time of pestilence prevents reception of Holy Communion, you can

still partake of and draw life from the Body of Christ.

Notes about the Monthly offertory report: Shown on the left is a comparison between actual weekly collection income to our collections expected each month. This fiscal year’s budget has been significantly reduced of all non-vital costs to reflect the drastic downward trend of our collections over the past several years (“weeklies” account for over 70% of each parish’s income)

A favorable monthly variance indicates the “weeklies” donated during the month exceeded the amount expected of the month. Meanwhile, an unfavorable monthly variance indicates the total “weeklies” donated during the month do not meet budgeted expectations and our financial obligations may not be met.

Masses are back! We will resume Masses at their normal times starting June 15th, a Monday. Thank you!
