February 11 is World Day of the Sick, an observation started by Pope John Paul II as a way for believers to offer prayers for those suffering from illnesses. The day coincides with the commemoration of Our Lady
of Lourdes. People around the world take the time to pray for the sick and for those who work very hard to alleviate the sufferings of the sick on this day. Faith organisations mark this day especially to provide the sick with medicines, food, and spiritual guidance.

Stewardship Bulletin Reflection: February 9, 2020 Fifth Sunday of Ordianry Time
Is. 58:7-10; Ps. 112; 1 Cor. 2:1-5; Mt. 5:13-16
Today’s readings are part pep talk and part marching orders for us Christian stewards. They offer wonderfully clear guidance on what matters most to God in the way we prioritize our lives and the way He intends for us to use the gifts He has given us.
The first reading, from the prophet Isaiah, gives us very straightforward instructions: “Thus says the Lord: Share your bread with the hungry, shelter the oppressed and the homeless; clothe the naked when you see them, and do not turn your back on your own.” The Lord gives no wiggle room here — care for our brothers and sisters in need is a “must do” for the Christian steward.
But note how generous our God is to us when we do these things. “Then your light shall break forth like the dawn and your wound shall quickly be healed.” The more we give ourselves away the more we will find ourselves, and “light shall rise” for us in the form of more of God’s grace in our lives and more joy and peace in our hearts.
Our Gospel passage, from Matthew sends us out on our stewardship way with a bang as Jesus declares to us, His disciples, that we are the “salt of the earth” and the “light of the world.” But, He adds, salt no longer gives flavor if allowed to go stale — light cannot bring its blessed brightness if left hidden. Therefore, we must act! We must live our lives so that others will see the things that we do — the ways that we serve others, care for the vulnerable, prioritize our family relationships and above all, our love for God — and then give Him glory.
This is the stewardship way of life. Let’s give it our all!

Quotes of St. Claude de la Colombière Spiritual Director of St. Margaret Mary Alacoque
Feast Day: February 15
“The best book of meditation on the Passion is the Passion itself in the Gospel: read this and meditate upon it, reflecting upon the love and patience of Jesus Christ.”
“There is no peace except in perfect forgetfulness of self; we must resolve to forget even our spiritual interests, so that we may seek nothing but God’s glory.”
“The spirit of God inclines us to fervor, but this fervor is calm and causes no trouble either to ourselves or to others; when it meets with obstacles it knows how to stop and submit to God’s will. Its only arms are patience and gentleness.”
“Anyone who thinks of what he is, what he has been, and what he can do of himself will find it difficult to be proud. To shatter pride it is enough to remember that the first sign of real virtue is to consider self as nothing at all.”
“A humble man sees only his own faults. It is a sign of little virtue to notice the imperfections of others. A person may be imperfect today who in a little while, recognizing this, may rise to great sanctity.”
“As soon as we begin to see how lovable Our Lord is, we should have very hard hearts if we did not love Him greatly; and when we love greatly, we think we have never done enough for Him.”
“No one can penetrate into the mysteries of the Sacred Heart without tasting the cup of bitterness that Jesus drank from so deeply.”
“If anything could shake my faith in the mystery of the Eucharist, I should not doubt the power but the love which God shows us in His Sacrament. If you ask me how bread becomes the Body of Jesus, how Jesus is to be found in many places, I reply, God can do all things. But if you ask me how God can love man to such an excess as to become his Food, I can only answer I do not understand it, and that the love of Jesus cannot be comprehended.”
“How can we help our neighbor? By prayer and good works. Preaching is useless without grace, and grace is only obtained by prayer. If conversions are few, it is because few pray.”
“Do not be either astonished or discouraged at the difficulties you find in prayer. Only be constant and submissive and God will be pleased with you.”
“God is more honored by a single Mass than He could be by all the actions of angels and men together, however fervent and heroic they might be. Yet, how few hear Mass with the intention of giving God this sublime honor! How few think with joy on the glory a Mass gives to God. How few rejoice to possess the means of honoring Him as He deserves!...if we only knew the treasure we hold in our hands.”
“No plans we make for God are ever accomplished without trouble. The more the devil tries to upset them, the more glory
for God can we hope for.” “As sanctity does not consist in being faithful for a day or a year but in persevering until death, we must use God as a shield which covers us completely because we are attacked from all sides.”

Adult Faith Formation Wednesday ‘Feed Your Faith’ February 12 at 6:30 in the Parish Hall. Join us for the ‘Prophet Jeremiah’ and dinner.
Jeremiah was a prophet who ministered to the
nation of Judah in its final years before the
Babylonian conquest and the exile. God called him
at a young age (1:5-7) to preach a hard message to
the nation: the sins of Judah had reached their limit
and God must execute his judgment by sending the
people to exile.
The difficulties he encountered, as described in the books of Jeremiah and
Lamentations, have prompted scholars to refer to him as "the weeping prophet".
