Begun in 1247 at the
insistence of a nun, Juliana of
Mont-Cornillon, this feast has
been celebrated under many
different names: Feast of the
Eucharist, Feast of God, Feast
of the Most Precious
Sacrament and Most Holy
Body and Blood of Christ, the
name we use today. Saint
Thomas Aquinas prepared the texts for the Mass and
Divine Office. Encouraging reverence and adoration for
the Eucharist, this feast presents the Eucharist as real
nourishment for God’s people to be eaten and drunk for
