What does it mean to be an active Catholic?
Frequently, those seeking to celebrate Marriage, have
children baptized, or serve as sponsors for Confirmation
or Baptism request a letter stating that they are parish-
ioners and active, practicing Catholics. To receive such
a letter, one must be registered in the parish, attend
Mass regularly, and be committed to a stewardship of
time, talent, and treasure. We encourage all parishioners
to become active in one of the parish organizations. In a
community as large as Our Lady of Hope, one means of
verifying participation is through the use of parish
offertory envelopes. If you choose not to participate in
the support of the parish, or are unable to contribute at
this time, please at least note your prayerful support on
your envelope and place it in the weekly offertory. We
will then be aware of your continued participation, and
you will not be noted as "inactive" on our parish roster.
“But pray my children. God will hear you in a little while.
My son allows Himself to be moved with compassion.”
The message of our Blessed Mother to the children of Pontmain,
France (January 17, 1871)
Baptism & Baptism Class
To begin the process of having a child baptized, please
contact the parish office for information. There is
paperwork (Godparent forms/Information Sheet for
the Sacramental Register) as well as a baptism class
for parents to complete. Baptisms are held on Sundays
at 1:30 p.m.
The baptism class is held monthly on Saturdays at
11:00 a.m. Please call the office to pre-register for the
next available class.
First Communion
For Children: Generally, First Communion is
received when a child is in Second Grade. Students in
the RE Program are required to be registered for both
first and second grade to begin preparation for the
Sacrament. Please contact the Religious Education
Office with questions.
Sacrament of Matrimony
In accordance with the regulations of the Bishop of
Arlington, couples must contact a priest and begin
preparation at least six months prior to the wedding.
Parish registration and active participation for a
minimum of 3 months is required before preparation
may begin. Living together before marriage is sinful
and harmful to the future marriage. Couples who are
living together will be asked to live separately during
the preparation time.

goal. Please help them this year as they strive to reach
their goal of $15,000! To make a flat donation, please

A Visit from the Little Sisters of the Poor
During the weekend of September 23-24, a second
collection will be taken to help the Little Sisters of
the Poor, whose mission provides a home where the
neediest elderly of every race and religion are wel-
comed as Christ and cared for as a family since
1874 in the Commonwealth of Virginia. The Sisters
will be present at all the Masses to explain their mis-
sion and to ask for your support. They count on
your generosity to continue their work of mercy as
much as you can count on their grateful prayers for
you and your loved ones. You are invited to visit

Every baptized person is called to
be a disciple of Christ and proclaim
the Gospel. While this task may
seem daunting, the Church—
through the Sacraments—provides
us with the grace and resources
necessary to be evangelizers in our local communi-
ties. And remember, living the everyday moments of
our lives with faith, hope, and love is the most effec-
tive way to share our faith with others.
On September 30th there will be an Evangelization
Day at Our Lady of Hope. This is your opportunity
to participate in fellowship and evangelization visit-
ing door-to-door with a special outreach to Our La-
dy of Hope´s parishioners. Please email
[email protected] to sign up.
What Can You Do to Evangelize?
Parish Bible Study
Wednesday, September 27, at 7:30 p.m.
In the Parish Hall
Come join us for an exciting new par-
ish program, Queen of Heaven:
Mary’s Battle for You, which paints
the epic narrative of Mary’s life. This
program does not just tell of her life in
Scripture. It begins before the dawn of
time, when she was only an eternal thought in the
mind of God, and extends into today. Just as Christ
lives on through His church, Mary lives on as the
Mother of the Church. In a battle between the Angel
who said, “ No,” and the woman who said, “Yes,”
you will see your mother intervening at pivotal peri-
ods in history to draw us back to her Son, including
at her most well-known apparitions.
The Ladies of Hope invite all women of the parish to
a Social on Tuesday, September 26 at 7:30 p.m. in
the Parish Hall. Please join other ladies for an even-
ing of fellowship, fun and to hear about this years
activities.
Please join us to celebrate the Cen-
tennial of the Miracle of the Sun that
occurred on October 13, 1917! The
Our Lady of Fatima Family Celebra-
tion will be from 5:30—9:30 p.m.
Enjoy pizza, popcorn, the movie,
praying the rosary and more. We will
be showing the movie, The 13th Day; the incredible
story of the three children in Fatima, Portugal who
were chosen by God to offer an urgent message of
hope to the world in 1917.

“God is Love”
Endow helps women discover their God-
given dignity and femininity through the rich-
ness and authenticity of Catholic teaching. As
we grow in understanding of the teachings of
the Church and in the truth of Jesus Christ, our faith be-
comes more defined, as does our transforming influence in
the family, community, and society. There will be 2
groups : Wednesday mornings from 9:15 -11 a.m.
(babysitting provided) and Tuesday evenings 7:30-9
p.m. To learn more contact Marie Kennedy (703) 433-
0864 or [email protected] or Therese Bracken at
[email protected], (703) 444-1977. It starts Septem-
ber 27 and October 3 and finishes before Thanksgiving.
All men of the parish are invited to the
monthly men’s conference on October
7th, beginning at 7:00 a.m. in the parish
hall with coffee and doughnuts, fol-
lowed by a talk and discussion. This
Fall, we will focus on prayer, using as a guide Bishop
Barron’s “The Pivotal Players” series. We will also
meet on November 4 and December 2.
