From the Pastor’s Desk

Del Escritorio del Pastor

Dear parishioners and friends:

The Joy of the Gospel The next few weeks I will share with parishioners highlights from Pope Francis’s Apostolic Exhortation, The Joy of the Gospel (Evangelii Gaudium). Although this document is now several years old, it forms for me the basis of where we need to go as a parish family. This document from Pope Francis is rooted in Biblical and Church Tradition. The opening sentence of the document is a good summation. “The Joy of the Gospel fills the hearts and lives of all who encounter Jesus. Those who accept his offer of salvation are set free from sin, sorrow, inner emptiness and loneliness. With Christ joy is constantly born anew…I wish to encourage the Christian faithful to embark upon a new chapter of evangelization marked by this joy.” (#1). Later in the document the Pope calls us to be “Missionary Disciples.” Pope Francis speaks to us and calls each local parish to be centers of missionary activity in their local community. (#28). That is why in each of our churches I placed two banners: One banner calls us to Encounter Christ and the other to Share the Joy of the Gospel. This short overview of the Pope’s Exhortation is enough to have you pause and think about your faith and your response to this challenge. Actually, it is the call of Jesus Himself that Pope Francis echoes. At the end of the Gospel of Mark our Lord calls us to “go into the whole world and proclaim the gospel to every creature.” (Mark 16:15-20). Together as a parish we need to pray and think about this message. How can we, as a parish and as individuals, share the Joy of the Gospel and become Missionary Disciples? In the weeks to come we need to think together about how we can grow our parish and invite others who have fallen away to encounter the love, peace, and joy of Jesus.

God Bless you and your family, Father Vince

Queridos feligreses y amigos:

Dios te bendiga a ti y a tu familia, Padre Vicente

Stewards Listen

“I am the good shepherd...and I lay down my life for the sheep…and they will heed my voice.” John 10:14-16

When you pray, do you only ask Jesus for the things that you want? Do you ever ask Him what He wants from you? How do Stewards listen for His response? Usually, the answer is in “quiet whispers”,

so take time every day, in silence, to actively listen for His response.

HELP WANTED – ANSWERING A CALL TO SERVE

If you are thinking about ways you can serve the Parish we have a few opportunities for you. We need Greeters and Ushers to help us welcome parishioners and visitors when they come to our Weekend Masses. We strive to be a welcoming faith community and we seek to have a greeter at every door to welcome and to provide assistance if needed. I know we have many friendly parishioners who can help us in this important ministry of welcoming. Your smile and good spirits can serve the Church and our Parish. We also need more Lectors to serve as readers at our Masses. Father Vince, Father Adam, and our Deacons will assist you and provide training to you as you minister and proclaim God’s Word. Both of these ministries are an excellent way for young people to live their faith. I gently challenge the youth and young adults in our parish (high school and college students, young professionals, young married couples) to step forward and serve. It is so good to see you live your faith as you attend Mass every week. Maybe the Lord is also calling you to serve? Please pray about this and call Anna or Valeria in the parish office at 856-627-2222 if you want more information about our parish training for these ministries.

vino al mundo se dedicó a llevar la palabra de su Padre a todos los hombres, así, la familia tiene la misión de seguir sus pasos, de evangelizar;
