Dear family,Feliz navidad y prospero año nuevo! We are given the gi of a new year, a new day, a new moment to refocus our sights on the pro-

found things that give our life meaning. As we follow the story of the Holy Family we hear the account of how shortly aer Christ’s

birth, the shepherds came to find the Holy Family huddled together. Mary is “taking it all in’ as these shepherds come to do her son

homage. Now we have heard this story so many *mes, but consider the fact that she is seeing all these things for the first *me. And

we are told that “she kept all these things in her heart.” She takes in this new life she is living, she listens, she watches. One thing

about Our Lady: she does not take this honor for granted, but as a gi. This is a good reminder that as Chris*ans, we fundamentally

must learn to see life and all good things within in as a gi. Furthermore, as receivers of gis, we are not called to manipulate what we

have been given for own use, but to discern its purpose and offer it back to God. This truth is reflected in the second reading when St.

Paul says that all our hearts cry out to God, ‘Abba, Father!” We are not property of anyone, including our parents, but we along belong

to God. Let us seek to imitate Our Lady, to watch and pray in our hearts, seeking God’s will and being grateful for His abundant bless-

ings.In His joy, Rev. Fr. Daniel J. Gu*errez
